Q:

Heyyooo! It’s been forever since I posted a thread on GW2 xD I ran into some money, and I was just wondering if this laptop here can run the game on high to ultra settings!
http://www.ibuypower.com/Store/Battalion_101_CZ-13_Gaming_Laptop
It has a FPS checker above it’s specs list, but I don’t have the ability to see if the level for this game. To me this laptop seems absolutely amazing in all honesty haha xD If you have any suggestions for a laptop between $1,000-,1,100, feel free to link!

Won’t run GW2 on high or ultra. Weak graphics card.

This laptop is better IMO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834230589

If you really wanted to play GW2 on high at 60FPS constantly, you’d have better luck looking at desktops

It depends on what you’re doing. If you’re just leveling then I could see you getting 60FPS in some zones, but some major cities and WvW can get very laggy. Even the best rig on the market with water-cooling and an OC’d CPU can’t run GW2 at a steady 60FPS on max’d out graphics options. the game is very CPU heavy so I turned off Shadows and Reflections which seemed to raise my average FPS everywhere.

I run max graphics and lion’s arch is a constant 60 for me. And that’s with Vsync on

Hmmm I was looking at that earlier this week, but (I know this is a very PETTY issue) the weight just didn’t win me over! Those are really good, but it’s between 8-10 pounds! I can link one of the desktops I was also looking at and see if that works out.

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/Gamer_Xtreme_3000/ I’m a bit hesitant on the desktops thought just because of how mobile I need to be lol. Is there any other laptops you can link? I will consider the one you did link, but its more of a last resort.

What are your specs and resolution? For me it’s a GTX 680, i5 2500k OC’d @ 4.8 GHz and my monitor is 1920×1080:60. I don’t have a steady 60FPS in Lion’s Arch with all graphics options max’d out. Is there a trick?

You should learn how to build a PC from the ground up for a +30% money efficiency rate. That’s what I did, and you should too if you want to get serious about graphics.

3570k @ 4.4ghz with an overclocked GTX 670. Ivy bridge cores are faster clock for clock than Sandy bridge.

You could look into Shuttle PC’s. They’re really small but can still fit a full graphics card and have good cooling for something like a 3570k

No laptop will run this game in “ultra” without suttering, the game is just… bad, but actually no desktop will either, for a laptop u are looking for a 660m at least for high details, and an i7 processor, the fastests one u can afford. Don’t go Sony, Acer, check out for MSI, Asus, toshiba laptops u could find a good deal for GW2 for arround 1200$ 1500$ here are some examples:
http://www.amazon.com/MSI-Computer-GT70-0ND-444US-17-3-Inch/dp/B009H8RG0S/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1359824374&sr=1-3&keywords=msi
http://www.amazon.com/Republic-Gamers-G75VW-AS71-17-3-Inch-Gaming/dp/B007MW73C2/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1359824374&sr=1-2&keywords=msi
http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-X875-Q7380-17-3-Inch-Diamond-Textured-Aluminum/dp/B009D1UW2I/ref=sr_1_19?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1359824374&sr=1-19&keywords=msi
They will give u mobility, decent manufacturing quality, and good gaming performance overall, but good FPS alll the time, not gonna happen on a lapop, even desktops can’t so, lets say this laptops could give u 70% performance in GW2 of a top of the line desktops about the same price range.
I would go for the MSI ones the tbh since they have quality cooling solutions, and they are made for gaming, Asus and toshiba has good reputation tho, they made good quality laptops.

Those ones that Rampage linked are all good choices.
At minimum u want a Intel 3630QM processor. Preferably a 3740QM/3820QM for the higher clocks.
GPU wise atleast a 660m

UnSpec: FYI . Ivy at 4.4ghz is equal to a Sandy at 4.5ghz. there is ‘roughly’ a 100mhz performance difference Which is mitigated by OC’s when using the same cooler*, since sandy can go higher. So overall they r the same.

*By that i mean if u got a 3570k and a 2550k (same base clocks) both of which were a good average quality example of the chips (so no ‘gold’ chips or ‘sub par’ chips) using say a Evo212 cooler, the 2550k would be able to get ‘atleast’ 100mhz higher clock and thus equal out the performance

3930k 4.6ghz | NH-D14 Cooler | P9x79 Pro MB | 16gb 1866mhz G.Skill | 128gb SSD + 2×500gb HDD
EVGA GTX 780 Classified w/ EK block | XSPC D5 Photon 270 Res/Pump | NexXxos Monsta 240 Rad
CM Storm Stryker case | Seasonic 1000W PSU | Asux Xonar D2X & Logitech Z5500 Sound system |

Not all silicon are created equal. I probably just got lucky in the lotterry and got a good chip.

And no, Ivy can go the same as Sandy. Even if they do have the same cooling. depending on the chip you get Ivy can match Sandy in OC’ing.

I’d suggest checking this site out: http://www.techbargains.com/

Sometimes the major brands will have a laptop outfitted with a GTX660m or GTX670m with a fairly deep ($400+) discount. If your looking for true portability there are a few models which have 14-15" screens.

Yes true but i did say ‘average quality example’

If u got ‘lucky’ with an ivy and just ‘standard’ or ‘unlucky’ with a sandy ..then u would be correct’.

An ‘average’ Ivy vs an ‘average’ Sandy on the same cooling will show the sandy reaching a higher clock, is just a fact that Ivy get hotter quiker at lower voltages and thus lower clocks, they max out the coolers quiker.
Im not saying a Ivy cant go as high as a sandy. Given the correct cooling they can ..but by then ur talking custom water loops and reaching 5ghz, but u need to spend a good chunk of change on the cooling systems which the average OC’er wont be doing..most go air cooling or of the shelf water cooling.

Anyway getting oftopic now lol.

The i5 dual core processor will strugle in GW2 compared to the i7 cuad core, also the 14 inch display is not very good for gaming, but if u are looking for a small laptop i think this one would be a very nice choice.
