World Map causes computer to shut down
Thymed.8251,
Since Windows Vista; the Kernel is built with Hardware protection to prevent applications from doing what you are seeing. This means its either driver or hardware related.
I would start by updating your drivers. Also try running an “sfc /scannow” to see if Windows is corrupt. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/toolsofthetrade/ht/sfc-scannow.htm

Thanks, I’ll try those.
Edit: I’m updating my video card drivers. The SFC didn’t fix anything, at least.

If the Execute Bit Disable protection is getting activated there will be a BIOS error/Message about it. And it should tell you what file/module it was activated against.
Rootkits are notorious for the EX detection, so i would start with a full TDSSKiller Scan to rule that out.
But updating drivers and going though and removing software/drivers that are not in use is a good thing to do as well.

Okay, I updated the drivers and was able to use the world map. But after running around Lion’s Arch for a bit it crashed again and turned off my computer. It also is taking a while for the computer to turn on again. (Laptop, btw.) It’s not overheating – it’s gotten much hotter after an hour or so of play.
The only thing that pops up before Windows loads is the standard “your computer didn’t shut down properly, do you want to restart using safe mode, etc?” so I’m assuming it isn’t a BIOS thing. Doing an ESET scan just in case, though.
All my drivers are up-to-date, and NVidia is set to application-controlled antialiasing.
The only thing I can think of is that my battery is acting up somehow, even though I’m always plugged in. It doesn’t charge to more than ~15 minutes of full battery life. But that hasn’t changed since the last time I [successfully] played.
Here’s the Game Advisor results attached.

I know you’re saying its not overheating, but are you sure? What are your temps like? Is the GPU going over 80C at any time?
What you’re seeing is linked to power or temp issues.

If running GW2 is crashing your PC and that turns it off, then it’s going to be heat related. Your PC should crash to a BSOD and not turn off if its not heat related (the ACPI BIOS is what tells your system to shut off to protect your GPU or CPU from thermal damage).
You will want/need to download Coretemp, GPU-Z and CPU-Z to verify the Temps and CPU status (CPU-Z) while under load. GPU-Z has a sensor tab that will tell you the Temp of your Video card.
If you would kindly run those applications with logging, and report back what the temps are when you crash we can tell you what needs to be done.
And it could be as simple as blowing out your air ducts on your Laptop, or as complex has tear your laptop apart, removing the heatsink/fan unit from the GPU/CPU and applying new thermal spread and clearing any collected Lint (that the can of Air cannot take care of) to fix this.

Looks like it’s heat. My GPU got to 87C before I quit – which took less than five minutes. [Processor was at 70C] I’d rather spray some air and see if that lowers the temp than shut down a few more times and wait for it to decide to turn back on.
It’s about time I improved the air flow anyway – the bottom of the case has a “fake” air duct below the fan that is solid plastic with a grate texture. I’ve been meaning to cut it out and replace it with a real metal mesh.
That won’t happen for about a week, till I get some tools. So I’ll let you guys know if anything else changes, or if the can of air doesn’t help. Thank you!
Same issue here. The Game turns off my PC. AND IT’S NOT HEAT PROBLEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And it’s not hardware problem.
I was able to run the game perfectly few months ago.
But now when i loged after few months my PC shuts down while playing the game.
I try putting all sttings to minimum still dont help.
And I see this thread all over the Internet with no real and honest answer form ArenNet.
All they say is clean your PC (… or buy new ).
At least ArenaNet can tell evry1 its not their foult and admit its mistakes.
So many ppl have this same problem and NO ANSWER FORM ANET ccccc…..
Is it harmfull for PC to turn off like that??
How is it possible?
Is it some virus maybe??
Telll mEEEEEEE I wanna knoww !!!!!
