I usually get around 80 FPS when i’m playing GW2, My computer specs are twice as much as the recommended specs. However, as soon as i enter WvW my fps drops to 30 and when i’m in big battles its like 9- 15 fps. This is terrible optimization if i can get 80+ everywhere else. Even in SPvP i maintain between 70 and 80 frames its only in WvW. I have even set everything to possible lowest settings and still no performance increase in WvW. Any tips on how i can fix this? Any help is appreciated, thanks

Welcome to WvW, haha.
Really though, it’s pretty common for this to happen. Even super-high-end computer setups will drop in performance in WvW. I can share, however, that the two biggest culprits are shadows and reflections. Turn these all the way to off upon entering WvW, and hopefully you’ll see an increase in performance.
I’m assuming that these issues happen primarily during zerg battles? You can try to turn Animations, Shaders, and Blurr effects down/off to see if this helps. Essentially it gives your computer a little less to think about. But when it’s having to think about these things for 50 different players at a time, it adds up quick.
I’ve also noticed that at least on ATI cards, distance is usually a problem (the further you can see across the field, the lower your FPS will generally be). You can try lowering your LOD as well, but I doubt this is where your issue is coming from.
In case you didn’t know, you can find all of these options in The Options menu, Graphics tab
Edit: What resolution are you running in? It might help to decrease the resolution as well (as much as it hurts to do)

OP.
If u want help ur gunna need to give us ur system specs.
A common issue is that people will asume they have a good rig, when infact they dont.. atleast by GW2 standards.
There are things that can be done to imporve fps but we will need details on ur rig first. Including current driver versions and OS.
Just for a heads up the BEST performance currently possible in WvW with the lowest FPS u ever see is 30. But it requirs a certan Desktop Spec.

Windows 7 Professional 64bit
AMD Radeon HD 6870
AMD Phenom 2 x4 @ 3.4 Ghz.
8Gigs Gskill Ripjaws
2 1TB HDD @ 7200rpm’s
This easily passes what ArenaNet said would be good to run GW2
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html
A overclocked 2nd/3rd gen Core i5 will get 30-60fps in WvW and often 30fps during heavy combat.
Your CPU is about half of an intel 2nd gen core i5 in terms of performance so 9-15fps is very plausible
If you want to know more on what the developer has commented on regarding WvW and optimization read Part 4.11 of this thread.

Yea its ur CPU. You could try OC as high as u dare to increase the FPS a bit. But tbh AMD cpu’s dont do well in WvW with GW2 due to their lower single thread performance. Even intel 2nd/3rd gen i5/i7’s which have alot better single thread performance have to be OC’d.

Well no WvW for me then. They should optimize this crap before they even release the game. How are you going to release a game and the funnest part not even be barely playable with an overclocked high end cpu? WvW is also the quickest way to earn guild influence which sucks because i really need to earn as much as i can. I’m not saying GW2 is a bad game. This game definitely beats out any new gen mmo that has come out in at least the past 3 or 4 years to my standards at least. To me mmo’s have been pretty stale lately and GW2 has actually kept me interested for months unlike other ones. It just sucks i won’t be able to enjoy the WvW part of it unless they optimize it better. Well thank you guys for replying and helping, it is greatly appreciated

Making a complex MMO is hard. Trying to break logic up is not easy. Optimization will take a long time for ANet to fix because network and tracking people are not simple topics in computer science
Lower shadows and reflection since they are cpu killers

As stated in my first post, i have set everything to the possible lowest settings and still no improvement in WvW gameplay. Thanks for the input though. Nice to know ArenaNet doesn’t want anyone playing WvW but millionaires who can afford crazy overclocked machines lol

Actually, i dont think there is a machine that exist that can play gw2 at a constant 60 fps at the best setting possible
Possible suggestions
reduce resolution
set Hz at 60

Would setting priority to high under task manager have any affect on it? I also read on one of ArenaNets optimization threads to make sure your PCI-e is running @ x16 and not x8. Whats a way to know for sure if it is?

Read Part 4.11 here to understand in-depth the issue, why it is, and what the devs plans are.

Its your CPU. Don’t think your issue is with PCI-E, but you can check it with GPU-Z
(See Part 4.1 here for details)

You dont ned ot be rich to have a good OC’d rig to play GW2 the best that is currently possible.
Asuming u have parts to salvage form ur current rig u can build urself a OC’able rig for between $500-700. Not exactly expensive when it comes to gaming rigs.

yea, dont troll with your system. That system costs well over 5k. Not everyone is going to be able to afford it. The common Price point around here is about 1k~

hes a fun troll though, he originally posted: “asus x79 mobo” as his motherboard in another thread and i told him to say “RIVE BE” instead since the BE was designed for the ivy-e (but he forgot to add BE on his troll rig)
Would setting priority to high under task manager have any affect on it?
yes, it does. not so much in direct FPS but i have seen it create smoother gameplay.
better yet download process lasso and use that to take control for your processes.
