Zone change crashes the game.
I have a friend who’s having the same issue. He tells me that his RAM is getting old and outdated. I can’t say that you have the same problem, but it sound like you two have the same results.
Possible… there’s a reason I’ve been saving for a new computer. My current one gets 30 FPS max with the game, and usually is somewhere around 15-20 FPS. Needing an upgrade I guess :P
Crashes on zone changes have been become ever more frequent. The game is almost unplayable. Worse is trying to get in and out of Lion’s arch where it crashes every time.
I think it’s worse since the Fractals addition. A related problem is that Fractals reduces the interest in the rest of the dungeons so it leads to terrible crowding in Lion’s arch.
In any case, I think the developers should stop adding new content including the Winter days and focus on cleaning up and stabilizing what is already there. I would begin with the zone crash problem by putting in some code that will tell us more about the crash then what we currently get. Is it, for example, some kind of hand off issue as you switch servers when you go through a zone? It tends to happen more after I play for a while, could we have a memory leak somewhere? I personally would be glad to help by having a look at the code and will sign and NDA to do it. It is a great game, but sadly in need of urgent work.
Do any of you experiencing this problem happened to be using windows XP or Vista/7 32 bit Operating Systems?
And/or have 2GB or less free memory after windows is fully loaded.

I have the same problem since the first beta of the game. I’m tired of this crash. Is almost constant, especially in wvwvw. I’ve opened a post to see if they were aware of the problem but no one answers. Use a waypoint, or travel through a portal and automatically “herror has occurred” and closes the game.
I put my settings for the ninetieth time …
i7 950 4025MHz (OC)
6GB DDR3 1750MHz (OC)
FSB: DRAM 2:10
Latency: CL 9 – tRCD 9 – tRP 9 – tRAS 24 – tRFC 88-CR 1T (factory settings)
Asus Sabertooth x58
x2 SLI GTX 580 SC (factory settings)
NVidia Drivers 310.70
OCZ ZX Series 1000W
Windows 7 64bits

Well I think you hit the nail on the head here…
My old comp I still use due to having no money for upgrading it yet, has 32 bit Vista and 2 GB RAM. Probably I need a new comp huh?
If you can’t upgrade to 64bit. Try the /3GB switch workaround (There are drawbacks in using the switch, but for most users it will be fine)

I will soon be upgrading my computer, but for the time being I’m running Win7-32bit with 4 gig of RAM (CPU = Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz, GPU = 550Ti). Since launch I’ve getting repeated Out-of-Memory crashes to desktop, typically when changing zones or when in WvW. It was particularly bad in WvW, where I’d literally be crashing every five or ten minutes depending upon the action.
Three days ago I finally put aside my reservations and did the /3Gb switch. I have not had a single GW2 crash since in spite of MANY hours playing, almost all of it in WvW. I have, however, had one minor Windows crash (automatic reboot after a memory dump) while NOT playing GW2 and one temporary internet disconnect (which may or may not have been due to anything squirrely going on in Windows). All in all the /3Gb switch has been workable for me, and the game has certainly been a lot more fun to play.
The GW2 minimum specs call for at least 2 gig of RAM, but that is a bit misleading since that apparently means 2 gb —→free<-— RAM after everything else has grabbed what it wants. Without the /3Gb switch Windows (plus other minor miscellaneous background processes) will eat enough of my 4 gb that there is less than 2 gb left for GW2. After I did the /3Gb switch I monitored my peak RAM usage for GW2 and indeed it never got above 1.9 gb.
Your mileage may vary …

upgrading your computer may not be the answer.
I just loaded GW2 on my new compy this past week and now I have the Zone Change Crash issue.
Intel i5 3570k 6mb
Asus p8Z77-V motherboard
Asus GTX680 2GB DC2O with factory settings ; Nvidia Driver 310.70
Running the Game on a Intel 240GB 520 series Solid State Drive
Windows 7 Home
My old compy with a GTX240 would never crash on zone change. But this new one does. Kinda makes me have sadpandaface.
It looks a million times better, but crashes with nearly every zone change… Including PVP map changes.
I was having this same thing happen.
WinXP, Intel I5 Lynnfield, GTX560TI, 4gig ram installed…yes I know xp cannot access all of that. Dual monitors, I play in windowed full screen
I do have more than 2g free after everything is loaded and running though.
Crashes upon any zone changes were getting worse and worse. I initially thought that it was due to a memory leak in the game as the crash would seem to happen after zoning a couple of times. Crash reports were frequently “out of resources”. But then the crashes started happening more and more frequently, with other error messages.
I deleted the local.dat file, and I have played crash free since that time. May not fix your problem, but its certainly worth a shot.
It can’t be RAM related, I have 16gb RAM in my machine and I have never experienced any crashes what so ever, until today when I tried to zone into Wayfarer Foothills.
The problem lies elsewhere.
It may have been something in the latest update.
now im getting Waypoints within the same map. Just tried to waypoint to Citidel in Borderland after I died… insta blackscreen.
I think it’s pretty obvious that GW2 has all kinds of quirks regarding what hardware it plays nicely with. Lots of people with pretty high end systems still have crashing problems, while I know first hand of people with relatively pathetic computers (as in 1.6 GHz Pentiums) that experience almost zero crashes over hundreds of hours of play time (yes, other graphics issues, but not crashes). I don’t know what ANet did to their code to make it so picky and dependent upon other factors, but clearly simply meeting certain minimum performance specs is no guarantee whatsoever of an acceptable gaming experience. It reminds me of some of the crummy software written years ago that exploited undocumented hooks to the operating system and ended up being totally unstable, except in this case maybe it relates more to drivers (motherboard, video cards, etc). I’m just guessing here, of course, but there seems little doubt that something on ANet’s side isn’t following the rules.

It’s been happening to me a heck of alot on my PC. It’s a new HP Envy 17 with a Intel i7 and 8gb of ram. It doesn’t only happen when loading, it can happen when interacting with objects, in large scale fights, or while in 5 man instances standing still.
It’s only been happening for about the past week, no changes to computer hardware and no other new software installed.
I’ve yet to have a crash on my MacBook, it’s 2 years old and has only 4gb ram. Haven’t tried it out on my iMac yet.
Yeah, it seems to be a rather new thing, and most likely not RAM related. I played until… the Lost Shores patch without a single crash ever. Then I got one crash in Divinity’s Reach load screen, then nothing for a while. Then about 2 weeks ago, I started getting occasional crashes. They are still fairly occasional for me, maybe 1-2 per day, if that, but still noticeable. I have a lot older and lower specced computer than most described here, but I crash less than described. I’m starting to feel like it’s in GW2 rather than the computers.
I’ve had the same problem since the release of GW2, it seems to be getting worse and more frequent lately though. Mostly happens during zone switches (VERY annoying during fractals as I get booted from the dungeon then) and between 30 – 45 minutes of playing WvW
Can some type of admin address this? Continually happening for me

What error code is it giving you when you crash? If your running 32bit OS, and getting out of memory crash, see Part 5.2 for work around fix.

Some post above are the specifications of my pc. Here I leave the test done with GameAdvisor perhaps helps. Thank you.
