hello everyone, I’m a just an average gamer that like MMOs but I understand little how to improve a computer. I really like the game but i have never being able to enjoy it to the fullest. I play at the minimum requirements and i get about 16-31 FPS in the open world and much lower FPS in Lion’s Arch. I gotten used of such low frame rate but I was just wondering if it’s possible to increase it. I saw a video on youtube of one guy discussing about the FPS in GW2 and he said that guild wars performance runs heavily on the CPU. I bought my computer on 2008 and all i have upgraded is the video card and an extra 1 GB Ram memory.

my video card is NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS

CPU is AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+

i got 3 GB of Ram

There’s a number of different things that you can try to improve your performance in game, though it’s possible the numbers you’re getting are the best your system may be able to handle. I’d recommend checking out this sticky thread first to see if anything there helps you out:

To put it more clearly, the computer you have is likely being hampered by your sub-par graphics card. Firstly, I want to make better sense of what we’re dealing with here. Check your GPU usage when you are playing the game. If the GPU usage is at 90% or greater most of the time, a general rule of thumb is that it is time to upgrade your graphics card.

What resolution do you play the game at?

Check your CPU usage when playing the game. If its at 90% or greater most of the time, a general rule of thumb is that it is time to upgrade your CPU. In your case this means a whole new computer since your motherboard won’t support any recent processors.

i also suspect that microsoft is part to blame for recent decrease in performance. Aside from gw2, much of my older software is ‘suddenly’ running slower on my pc. There are also many newer complaints on the net to the same effect. And I’m quite sure that despite me running windows 7, windows 8 is part to blame as microsoft may be bringing in “new revolutionary advances in modern spying ..err technology” from windows 8 to windows 7 for compatibility reasons – as win 8 users who upgraded from 7 are complaining that it’s making their systems A LOT slower. Meanwhile you got Adobe flash floating around the background like some mosquito trying to bite your ear and giving non stop script errors, and nvidia trying to improve their video cards by overheating your system and giving you a blackscreen… So while gw 2 isn’t running great at this time, don’t lose sight of the of all the poor performance microsoft, nvidia and adobe have been placing in our systems of late. I’m sure it doesn’t help. Who knows, it’s probably a conspiracy to get people to buy new machines lol. – which i wouldn’t be the least bit surprised and wouldn’t put it past microsoft…bill gates didn’t become a multi billionaire by buying a lotto ticket heh! they cause a problem, and have nice affordable solutions. The economy needs a boost and apple macs ain’t hot anymore, ur next system belongs r to us! "southpark quote about kenny getting killed here. "
