can i play on ultra?
Too bad you didn’t get the K version of that CPU so you could OC easier, depending on your heatsink of course.
With that system I would say you can run most things on high with the exception of supersampling.
Don’t expect any higher than 30fps in zergs tho. Hope that helps

There is no ultra exactly, but if ur looking for max on every setitngs then im afraid its no.
SuperSampling requirs a top of the line GPU.
And if u want to max the WvW culling settings then well, if u ever find a system capable of doing it , do share it with us, Becouse even a system such as mine cant completly turn of culling WvW. And tbh that isnt down to the system, GW2’s game engine is just so horribly optimised for the job its being asked to do that it cant fully use a CPU to its maximum potential, and what it does use it cripples.
As above, its a shame u didnt get the k verison of the 3570, as it owuld be easyer to OC, but even the normal version can OC somwhat, and i sugest u do so if u want some more performance in GW2.

Anyone been looking at the recent “performance patches” to see if they are using more threads and/or what anet is doing?

Yup, they don’t give any detail to what they’re doing exactly. It could be something as small as a “we made the engine use 1% more CPU efficiently” which gains almost no benefits to “we’re overhauling the system guys and making the engine the way it was supposed to be made the first time around” which would make them super heroes in my book.
Alas, I have a feeling that they’re only putting those messages in there to quiet the storms. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they’re mentioning something since they’re becoming more transparent, but my gut says there isn’t much weight behind that bullet point in the patch notes.

I agree with that assessment.
The only thing that I have noticed is that performance has gotten worse lol but ofc that is subjective.
I don’t get the feeling that there will ever be a better distribution of threading or any DX11 implementation in the near future
The quieting of the storms is what scares me the most!

I havnt been in game for a while now, i ofcourse keep updated and pop in now and then and keep an eye on the tech forums to help ppl out. But as for actually playign the game fully, nah.

Ya I find myself playing less and less but that is mainly because there is no meaningful difficult content to play…that and I am sick of the zergs lol.

A process has to be able to be the kind that can be paralleled to take advantage of additional cores. Currently there’s the main event loop as one thread and the renderer taking two (one GW2, one graphics driver). There really isn’t a lot of other things that can be sub divided still and at some point the renderer needs to touch base with the main thread so you still have conditions where one is waiting on the other.
This isn’t video compression software or ray trace engine where you can parallel the work with ease.

Which makes me think that any improvement in the game regarding performance will be minimal at best

thx for the reply
so i’ll be able to run on max without supersampling thats ok
reason i dont get the k version is cause i dont know how to overclock and second my friend broke hes computer doing that so i just want to let it standart :p
and yeah i heard alot of the wvw fps drop kinda sucks…. its those fights that make it epic

thx for reply yea your right i’m able to overclock to 3.8 ghz with 4 cores and 4.0 ghz with 1 core without the K but can i do that with these specs without overheating?
It depends on the cooler you have for the CPU. If your using the standard intel heatsink then I would make sure you watch the temperatures to make sure that your not “overheating” and the cores start throttling down.
I upgraded from an X6 to an i7 and found it better but still terrible when it comes to WvW. There is currently no known CPU that can handle the giant zergs and still have decent FPS

You will play fine on Auto settings with that spec but not with Supersampling. + You’re going to be on 1080p.

I haven’t really been playing since Southsun Cove or whatever it was. Before the addon I would get 28 – 38 FPS in cities and 58- 63 anywhere else like open fields. Since last months addon I was getting 18 -21 FPS in Southsun Coves open field areas and in some of the small cities on the island. Only the first city was a constant 60 fps. Not only that it seemed my frame rates ingame worldwide have dropped and there is a lot of areas that go from 38 to 63 FPS adding choppyness. I wish they would fix the problem because Neverwinter Nights has listen to fans and they’re going to optimize Protectors Enclave in their next patch, all the while for months (or who knows perhaps at launch) GW2 developers haven’t optimized their graphics. It doesn’t matter if I lower my setting or anything the framerate at low settings is the same as when I max everything out. Something isn’t working correctly with utra-spec machines. The longer it goes on, and people upgrade then notice this problem, the more people GW2 is going to loose. I want to like this game but Dragon’s Prophet and Neverwinter both have constant 60fps and I think Dragon’s Prophet’s combat system is better than GW2.

Im waiting on the following MMO’s to release or go into native open beta.
Bless, The Elder Scrolls Online, Blade & Soul, Phantasy Star Online 2, Otherland, FinalFantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, Titan.
If what has been told about any of those is held to be true, chances are i wont be coming back to GW2, not unless some major changes come along.
Dragons Prophet looks interesting but i doubt i would play that for the long haul, looks like a relativly low budget game tbh.

I have an i7 2.80GHz, nVidia 680m 2.0GB graphics card and 16GB of DDR3 RAM and I’m still not able to play on ultra without a significant decrease in fps, so it’s far over my head as to who can in fact play on max settings fluidly without any noticeable fps drops. :\

You have a mid range system and they do work well on ultra for some reason. My system is at the lower end of high end
AMD 8350 @4.2GH
16 GB RAM @ 1866
GTX 680 /w 4GB RAM
Windows 7 64-bit
128 Samsung 840 Pro SSD
1TB Seagate HDD
and 950 Watt power supply for when I want to get two Titan Cards put in.
I get choppy and framerates bouncing all over the place. I play practically every game on ultra settings at 60FPS, an MMO shouldn’t have graphic specs that have outdone single player titles. I know GW2 pushed the graphics for longevity. Almost every MMO is a step behind the higher end games, lets say a Crysis 3. There should be no reason this game can’t run at a constant 60FPS or higher than 54FPS.

A 680m is only slightly better than a stock 560ti, so its no suprise its not able to fully max GW2. Remember mobile/laptop hardware is a step down from desktop hardware.
