Restart your router and do a ipconfig /flushdns on the command line.
You are probably logged into an overflow server. Don’t go to your homeserver if the message pops and don’t change regions/enter instances.
My brother played the whole evening yesterday because he was in a crowded place he chose to never leave the overflow server…

Hey Everyone,
For those of you experiencing error 5 again, please try the following:
1. Locate the file “GW2.exe”
2. Right-click on “GW2.exe” and select “Create Shortcut.”
3. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Port Test.”
4. Right-click on this shortcut and select “Properties.”
5. Edit the “Target” line to include /clientport 80 at the end.
Note: Please make sure /clientport 80 is outside of the quotes
Correctly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” /clientport 80
Incorrectly Formatted Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe /clientport 80”
6. Once completed, click “Ok” to save your changes.
If you get an error trying to save, your target line may not have the correct format. Please try step 5 again.
7. Double click “Guild Wars 2 Port Test” and try connecting again.
Go ahead and try to start the client at this point and let me know if you run into the same issue when trying to log in and play.

I tryed bot starting the game via the new shortcut “Guild Wars 2 Port Test” or the old one “GW2”, no positive results.

yeah my router uses the same dns… this problem really buffles me as i work as a network/system administrator… totaly no clue why it works for some. i live in central switzerland btw

I tried the port test, still nothing. The funny thing is, that when I got home at 11:00 AM the game was finally working and now it isn’t anymore…
I’ve also got Swisscom, tried pretty much every advanced thing to fix this problem. It can only be on Swisscom’s end or ANet’s end. I know other people that have swisscom and can play just fine.
Nothing more with the port thing. Sorry

I have the same issue. ISP is Swisscom as well.
It might be a DNS problem on Swisscom’s side.
In the network settings I changed the DNS Server from “automatically selecting” (DNS Serveradresse automatisch beziehen) to Google’s public DNS address 8.8.4.4 and I can login now.
Maybe this helps some of you, too. But be sure to let Swisscom know of the issue.
Edit: Okay, this is ridiculous. I was able to login with my char, just as I wrote. However, it kicks me out with the dreaded network error code 5 as soon as I try to teleport to a waypoint (I wanted to return to a waypoint inside the starter town of the charr).
I will try it again, but this time I’ll use a vpn connection to a US server.
Edit 2: It does work with the vpn connection.

Just tried the Port Test aswell – same error.
It’s quite strange that we can normally play on US Server, but can’t on EU Server. Something has really been messed up during last update.

I change now to the us server, lag is not so big, ok for spvp.
Hope they can fix the problem soon.
I’m not in Switzerland and it SEEMS to work for me, I did the “port test” thing.

Ok, I don’t know if it is relevant but for me I have 2 different situations.
1° I try to login into the game and it fail with 58:XXX error
2° I succeed the login but I fail enter in the game with error 5:XXXX
So I run many times gw2.exe with the -diag option and the only thing I notice change it’s the second section in “Checking server connectivity” part :

Hey all,
We would like to get a better look at everyone’s trace routs so we need to expand the results we are getting from you guys just a bit. If you all can run the following and then upload the corresponding .txt file to this thread please.
1. Click “Start.”
2. Type in “cmd” into the “Search files and folders” bar but do not hit enter
3. Your Start menu should now show the program cmd.exe.
4. Right-click on this program and select “Run as Administrator.”
5. Highlight and copy this: “pathping -w 500 -q 50 -4 206.127.158.1 -n > C:\pingpath.txt” (Without the quotes)
6. Right-click in the DOS window and select “paste” and hit enter.
This command will take about 2-3 minutes to complete. Once completed (the prompt will return to normal), the test results will be saved to your C:\ drive in a file called “Pingpath.txt.” Once you have this file, please attach it to your reply.

I would like to add to this that when running the above command it will appear that it either froze or finished running when it displays “Computing statistics for 212 seconds…” At this point you will need to wait for it to generate all the Trace routes which can take a few minutes to complete.
