hello guys i’ve a question i’ve the opportunity to buy cheaper this cpu for 90€ i play at 1280*1024 i want to know if i’ll be able to play into large events at 30fps or higher with autodetect settings or higher

at the moment my configuration is

z77
pentium g 2020
sapphire 7870xt
8gb ddr3 1333mhz
os w7 ultimate 64bit

i know i3 is z87 chipset

GW2 is CPU-Intense. Even with an i7-2600K or better you’ll barely manage 20+ FPS at crowded world bosses.

The CPU you are suggesting is better (by about 12%) than an i7-2600K in the realms of Single-Threaded computing, but there’s no CPU reaching >30 FPS during crowded events.

Yes, different socket and the z/h9x chipset is now out for socket 1150.

The HT of an i3 will provide only a very minor boost but the clock boost and the generation improvement the i3 is roughly 40% faster.

But as Ettanin points out, it’s difficult to get maximum performance in zerg heavy battles on anything less than a top end system, that’s quad core or better. The i3 is still a dual core at it’s heart and the game really likes the headroom a third core provides.

You should notice an improvement, but this game can be a bear at times on the CPU.

The i5-3570 which means you wouldn’t likely need a new motherboard. The one you have the G2020 in should work fine. And with the extra cores as well as the clock boost you will see a swift kick in the frame rate.

You’re probably looking at a few FPS difference between them, just look for the cheapest i5 3xxx model here for you options without changing motherboard:

if your considering an i3, I would suggest a G3258 and a Z97 board instead. Since the i3 is a dual core cpu with HT, it will actually perform slower then a native dual core CPU.

Also the G3258 can be OC’d between 4.4ghz and 4.6ghz on air with little trouble. And it costs about 80USD.

Once you add in the cost of a new motherboard and 3rd party cooler (for overclocking) to the price of a G3258, you are in i5-3570 (not K) price range. The i5-3470 save $20 and is roughly 5% slower than the 3570.

…When you’re using the G3258, that is true. However I’m gonna agree with Behellagh. It’s easier for OP to just purchase an i5 3470 or 3570.

All the reviews I saw with the G3258 the test setup was with a 3rd party cooler, hence my comment.

if i would go for g3258 should i oc to 4.4ghz for gain nice performance ? but i dislike oc so i think i’ll go for 3570, how is it this cpu for gw2 ? i know with z77 chipset can i boost it at 3.8ghz on all 4 core

Pretty sure a lot of motherboards manufacturers with H77 chipsets can lock the CPU at max boost all the time. But it’s been a while since I’ve trolled through H77 reviews.

You can lock the CPU to its turbo boost if you wanted. However, you really dont need to do that. You will get decent performance on a 3570 with out needing to lock it to its turbo. The issue still remains with heavy player content though (Zergs) it takes a serious OC CPU to keep them at or above 18FPS during worst case scenarios (Frozen Maw Boss Fight for Example)
