new pc
I sorta think this is a trolly thread but if you have to ask if this system can play guild wars 2, you’re more than likely extremely uneducated. Aside from 3 and not 4 graphics cards, this kinda spec would easily be one of the best builds on the current market.
Yes, it will run guild wars 2.
just want to make sure because if i install gw2 on it and it only gives 20 fps i might not beable to return it. i have no clue when it comes to pc power ty for the reply
You must have a PCIe SSD and 4th GPU, otherwise you’re not good for anything.
Seriously yes, that’s maybe the best setup on the market. Nevertheless I want you to know one fact: no CPU currently is strong enough to keep up with WvW at it’s fullest. When there’s 100+ players on the screen, your fps will drop to under 30 and there’s really nothing you can do about it. If that’s enough to return it better do it now, but for any other game out there, yeah that’s pretty much gonna destroy them all.
k ty very much ill return it.i dont want just 30 fps in wvw
k ty very much ill return it.i dont want just 30 fps in wvw
Nothing else will get better than 30 FPS in wvw. Go educate yourself please.

Why not educate oneself here, that’s what’s happening right now, right? No reason to hate on someone even if he has the most superior rig and no knowledge (granted it gives quite a weird image).
Let’s put it this way: your 4960X ($1k) is about just as good for this game as my 4670K ($220). Yours has more cores and threads but this game is dependent on single core performance and in that those are on par. This level is not enough for what the game demands but there’s nothing better available at the moment. My GTX 660 ($170) has more power than needed to run the graphics high at 1080p so you can imagine what having 3x 780 Ti’s (3x $700) benefits, as a single 780 Ti is about twice as powerful as 660. That’s right, it gives absolutely nothing.
Graphics cards are evolving rapidly and it wont be too long that 780 Ti is “only” a good GPU. It’s gonna last many years tho, so if you don’t want to upgrade every year you can keep that rig and be happy later too. Programs are most likely getting optimized for more multiple core usage in the future too and that’s when your CPU will start kicking mine’s kitten . Now if you just want to play GW2 and want to be noble, you can tell your aunt that a cheaper pc would be sufficient. Or then you could spend those extra grands in some over-the-top CPU cooling to push it to 7 GHz overclock for daily use and get enough fps. I don’t really know if a CPU could handle that even with a sufficient cooling, but the rest of this post is true.
No I’m not hating on this person. I’m completely blown away that they would decide to return the most megabeast PC I’ve ever seen (aside from the LPC PC Gamer has) just because it can’t get better than 30 FPS in a wvw fight.

Yeah, that’s kind of weird, unless it really was in pursuit of trying to get that stable framerate without knowing what affects what and he already has a desktop that’s something similar to our systems. Still, an upgrade would always be cool, especially if someones willing to actually pay for that beast.
my aunt bought me a new pc but before i install gw2 on it i want to know if the pc will run it if not ill get my aunt to return it here is the specs and ty for feed back
Specs:
- Intel Core i7 4960X CPU
- 32GB 1866MHz Memory
- 3x SLI NVIDIA GTX 780 Ti 3GB
- Copper Pipe Liquid Cooling
- 240GB Corsair Neutron GTX SSD
- 1TB 7200RPM Storage HDD
- ASUS X79 Chipset Motherboard
- 1200W Corsair AX1200i PSU
- Blu-Ray Player/DVD Writer
- Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro
Your aunt spends $5,000+ for you to have a new pc that is pretty much top of the line (and copper pipe liquid setup at that…), and you want to return it because Guild Wars 2 (A game that is poorly coded…) won’t give more than 30 FPS? Give me a break…. Only thing that comes to my mind with your post is a spoiled kid that is not used to not getting what he wants :/

oh, and why say “ASUS X79 Chipset Motherboard” There isn’t enough attitude there. Instead, why not say: Rampage IV Extreme Black Edition?

What quite baffles me is why he didn’t pull it all the way if he really did troll. I mean, that is one hell of a machine, but it could be even better. Or maybe he thought that would lose the last bit of credibility it would have
ok aunt returned it today and picked up this one

i installed gw2 on it and i get a solid 100 fps any where in pve even in black lion arch.and to my amaze i get close to 75 fps in 50 man zerg wvw so this pc will have to do.they said this is the best they have to offer.i doubt that but my aunt bought it do i cant complain.im her only nephew she has no kids so she spoils me.i would by by own but every time i save money my dad would use it lol
(edited by robert.3475)
Well I can believe only nephew with aunt having no kids. I just find this ridiculous, myself. no offense.
i said its not the best .i never said it was.so what do you find ridculous

This forum topic.
i said its not the best .i never said it was.so what do you find ridculous
the ridiculous part is that you got a so-close-to-the-best-that-adding-more-would-bring-virtually-nothing pc and asked will it “run” the game (c’mon, even laptops can run it), and you got another one with 1 more gfx card added while we said that even a single one of them would be more than enough, seems like at least you didn’t listen to us too well anyway, if you guys have the money, go for it, the parts are meant to be bought. It’s sure a different story in another games and games to come, but for this game, less would’ve given you exactly the same you get right now. That’s just the odd part.
im sorry i dont underrstand what you mean.if i offended you i’am truly sorry.
No I am not offended by basically anything. I can cover the basics briefly and simply again if you want.
1. There’s no CPU released that has the power this game demands. Your 4960X is top-of-the-line, but still it’s just not enough. Nothing right now is.
2. GW2 demands very little from GPU. You had maybe 5 times more performance than needed to begin with, yet you got another one with 1 more GPU. Now you have maybe 6 times more than needed (I’m just pulling those numbers from my head, I don’t know the exact ones but just to give you an idea. They’re pretty close to reality though)
I just found it funny that the previous pc gave you everything this new one gives. That’s just from GW2 point of view however, games like Crysis 3 and Metro Last Light might benefit a bit from that 4th 780 Ti.
Robert ..tug on the line as u real in, makes it look more tempting, more likely to bite :P

Most guys here are in disbelief that your aunt bought you a 5k+ Desktop. But, That is pretty much how I treat my nephew too, so I believe it.
But the other point is, there is no system out there that can push GW2 to its max due to how GW2 is programmed. The system your aunt first bought you, would have performed the same as the system you had her exchange for.
Infact, my system will perform the same as yours (in most scenarios). So, end point being, 5K to build a system for GW2 is a complete waste. You can do it for about 1200~ including monitor(s) and extras like that.
But that system will blow every other game out of the water, probably for the next 5-6 years.

@Flatley if you read only even this post you’d have the answer. If you don’t feel like I’ll give you a brief summary.
The game doesn’t see the price tag of your pc. It’s not gonna give any better FPS because this came is capped by your CPU, moreover it’s single thread performance. A GTX 660 performs roughly the same as 4-way SLI 780 Ti at 1080p. Now, the most expensive CPU on the market (non-Xeon anyway), the 4960X actually has lower single thread performance than 4770K or 4670K, but it has more cores so it performs roughly the same. For the rest of the parts, it doesn’t really make a difference.
call me crazy, but I don’t think Flatley was being serious (in either post)
does anyone here actually run 3/4 way sli/cf? i read the scaling and latency is not worth it after the 2nd card.
I run crossfire two way, I’m considering going three way with R9 290X graphics cards.

I ran 4way CrossFire on my AM3 system before moving to Intel. The Benefits will completely depend on how many PCI-E Lanes you have. If you have 16x to share between all your Slots, then running two cards in 8x can cause issues for the ultra low FPS areas of this game, such as WvW. But if you can run 2 cards in 16x then the latency issue isn’t that bad/noticeable.
Even with a single card, there are noticeable differences between 16x and 8x when you consider the crappy lows for the FPS on this game. Same as moving from PCI-E 2.0 to 3.0. While on the other hand, you probably wont notice a HUGE different on the high end of the FPS.
Basically, this game is weird in how it acts with hardware :-)

That’s if you can get the GPU to run natively in x16 lanes. Both of my 7970s run at x8. they did on my AM3+ platform and they run the same on this Intel platform. Sure if my 7970 in the first slot ran natively at 16x I might see slight performance increase but honestly I don’t really care. The FPS is enjoyable in all areas I play in. I don’t expect any single card to fully use x16 lanes unless it was like a Radeon HD 6990/7990/ GTX 590/690/760×2

That’s probably because they are sharing the single 16x Lane from the CPU.
Hell even my Z87 MB doesn’t offer its own PCI-E bridge, it only shares from the CPU. Which is why I have not setup Crossfire yet. But, I would opt for a 7850/7890 before Cross-firing 2 HD7790’s :-)

I just got a hold of 3 nec 30 inch 2560 × 1600 after my office upgraded to dell ultrasharps =). My 680 slis had pretty good performance at 5760×1200 surround (w/vsync), but is struggling mightily at 7680×1600 (having to cut down on settings to get 30+ in open world)
Unfortunately my asus p8z77 board has 2×16 channels, so i guess i’m out of luck for a tri sli? If I can ever offload these 680’s, do you think i should go for the 780/ti’s or 290/x’s? I’v read that the amd drivers have some issues and that the cards run hot, but the price to performance on those 290’s look soooo good.
I bet I could do 7680×1600 if I had two 290X gpu on me which I hope to have next week

Depends on when you’ll be considering this. GTX 880 and AMD equivalent might be out by then and who knows, maybe even 860/870 outperforms 780 Ti. If we’re talking about situation right now of course 290X is more bang for the buck while 780 Ti is the uncrowned king. They do run a bit hot but if the chassis has decent airflow I don’t think even XFire would be a problem.
Reference GTX 780 TIs don’t run hot if you consider hot to be 80+ degrees. Reference models (Titan cooler) has a vapor chamber and most I ever heard of from a buddy was 53 degrees. On Linus’ Tech Tips I think he said he was unable to get it past 83 degrees. 290X was over 90 and it’s just an air cooler for reference.
Pft you guys are pikers, Im using one of these:

Only LGA 2011 (X79) can do x16 x16, most else runs x8 x8 .
Once u got 3 cards most run x8 x4 x4, LGA 2011 runs x16 x8 x8
And 4 (which really inst worth it scaling wise), is x4 x4 x4 x4, LGA 2011 runs at x8 x8 x8 x8
So above 2 cards, u should really run a X79 platform otherwise PCI-E lane bandwidth becomes an issue.
