Updated NVIDIA Control Panel ambient occlusion support for Guild Wars 2

In the even daily boss fractal, especially in the boss fight, the textures of everything like environment and character become transparent.

edit: had set it to “quality” in the driver panel
edit2: also had some graphic issues in wvw at a sawmill in a camp with oc deactivated..

it was written…

Confirming this also. I was in Straights of Devastation and the ground would periodically turn transparent or disappear.

nvidia AO constitutes a graphics driver hack, so don’t expect support here.

@topic: that AO glitch was always there if you run a driver version which got AO at the CP settings while having it enabled while running native-redersampling in-game

i was like "wtf" then i googled and they indeed use some sort of graphic hack to apply/force AO in games which creates weird bugs and glitches most of the time

i wonder why it is turned on by default in the first place and why it is even there if it’s applied to games by a "hacking technique"...i mean most of all common games nowadays are online-multiplayer...

i’m even more confused now @_@

i never really thought much about that glitch since Squall mentioned the word "hack" but i’m pretty sure that could be abused for unfair scouting in WvWvW

In this case, the word “hack” mostly just implies a messy solution to a problem.

Many of the settings in the driver control panel can make the driver behave differently from what was requested by the game, and the Ambient Occlusion filter is probably the hackiest of them all.

If the graphics still look mostly normal these driver hacks are generally not considered “hacks” in the cheating sense. Sometimes driver settings are the only way to get improved graphical quality or performance in games.

If the AO’s still bugged for GW2 and gives you a wallhack, you should probably not use it though

AO did little to improve visual fidelity in this game for me anyway. Its more noticeable in games like Skyrim and The Witcher 2. In my game, its faint and the performance drop isnt worth it. But ya, I would recommend against using it at this point.

sounds like you turned AO on globally :p

it’s turned on globally by default…i swear it’s turned on after every clean install of a new driver version O.O
of course it’s disabled now since it adds no noticable change to the quality at any of my installed games other than invisible terrains at some places in GW2 if running native rendersampling

btw, the latest beta-driver seems to have problems again with adaptive power managment mode
the framerate drops to either 6 or 30FPS if i am leaving an heavy loading area like LA or BC to a low/medium loading area
well it actually is kinda awesome if your power supply sounds like a formula 1 racing car
i’m too lazy to roll back

not having a problem with adaptive here, and my AO is always off by default.

well i have a really cheap 30 bucks 750W power supply and my gtx580 drains ALOT power, no-holds-barred
a bad combination right there

2 additional factors to consider when wondering why adaptive power management doesn’t work properly on some drivers for me
