yes i have tried absolutely everything to get my performance to stabilize on this game fps is all over place no matter what i do hardware is amd phenom2 955be oc to 3.7ghz x4 all eco features off aka 100% 24/7 runs 3.7ghz and 8gb of 1600mhz corsair dominator gt ram with 7-7-7-17 timings motherboard is msi 790fx gd70 gpu is ati hd 6970 oc to 950mhz on core and ram is 1450mhz both gpu and cpu are liquid cooled so heat is not an issue i have a new mobo ordered will be here in 2 days asus sabertooth 990fx and also will have new cpu amd fx 8350 soon the issue is the game maxxed out setting uses 60%-70% of my cpu now and only and uses a max around 55% of my gpu yet i am lucky to break a solid 35fps constantly all over place with this amount of resource usage which i should be able to get alot better fps period all core parking disabled amd cnq is off and also i have win 7 64bit i am using the newwest ati beta 13.2 drivers i also installed the latest cap2 profiles because they also boost performance on single gpu setups also i have a pretty high end setup and have seen amd / ati setups with half the hardware i have get better fps than i do at same settings i can set to low settings or maxxed i get nearly same fps period no matter where i set stuff and have exact same cpu and gpu usage usualy higher settings use more gpu resources but for some reason this game is glitchy about this i also want to note temps are not an issue i run max of 100 degrees fahrenheit on everything liquid cooling got to love it and all my overclocks are 100% stable never crash or glitch or artifact or throttle so throtling issue is not the case nor temps or stability so dont comment on those suggestions

plz someone look at this and explain to me what is wrong i have tried everything i have found in forrums and used all my pc geek skills and knowledge to try to fix it myself and to increase performance and with the tweaks i have done has helped alot but there is still very poor performance for a setup like mine i even wiped out my system and reinstalled os and game and tried again 3 times so i know it is either bad hardware support by game or something along those lines like bad coding and very poor ati hd 6970 graphics utilization / support by the game and yes i have my card in a full pcie 2.0 x16 slot and gpuz says it is running in full 16x while ingame and i forgot to state i am running a raid0 array of ssd drives ocz vertex4 128gb 128kb stripe raid0 and do frequent wipes to keep raid array in top performance ssd in raid trim doesnt work so have to wipe it out and redo it to keep them fresh and running at peak performance usualy every month or 2 so any other advice or comments or questions plz ask or comment or however but i need some confirmation here as to what is exact issue i am at wits end here and literaly so upset i am almost about to quit game till they fix the issues i expect with a setup like mine to run a solid 60fps atleast on lowwest settings posible instead i get a stable 35fps or so and around same maxxed out settings in game which is pretty weird in my eyes also i run in 1920×1080 aka 1080p so the other issue about to low of resolution for my card is also not an issue

First of all, wow, what a block of text. You need to use sentences and paragraphs. Really difficult to read your post.

Your CPU (Phenom II X4 955) is bottlenecking. It’s the reason for your low FPS and GPU utilization issue. GW2 is very CPU bound.

as i stated before i always have atleast 30% of my cpu free while getting 55% gpu load hince lack of utilization i have never had gw2 use more than 70% of my cpu (3.7ghz x4)so that should not be that much of a bottleneck . I also would like to state i mentioned i am about to upgrade my cpu and mobo and ram even gave the stats of mobo asus sabertooth 990fx which will be here in 2 days along with cpu to be here in a few days also amd fx 8350 cpu (plan to clock to around 4.6ghz x8)the ram that will be installed is corsair vengence 1866mhz ram 16gb worth. The whole reason i asked about the gpu utilization issue is because i never break 70% usualy average of 60% usage leaving me minimum of 30%-40% cpu left which should be more than enough to utilize my gpu alot better than 55% hince why i started this posting in forrums to decide as to what i should do and am also soon jumping to ati hd 7970 gpu.

well game is playable but i expect a solid stable fps not constantly all over the place crysis 2 i run maxxed out with no issues and it is far more graphics and is way more intensive all around on hardware and run 50fps solid usualy more so i feel 35fps on low and 35 fps on maxxed settings on gw2 is a bit odd regardless the settings i get around same fps even at minimum settings with my hardware and it uses nearly exact amount of resources gpu and cpu either way hince the reason i opened this conversation in forrums. The issue is supposedly gw2 favors intel far more than amd hince why i opened this to see if it was just me seeing this or actualy was it due to poor coding for amd cpu’s or what hince needs more optimizations for amd and well according to my research the game was designed to run on dual core cpus and quads which mine is a quad and is overclocked to a descent clock far higher than most oem amd quads. So the thing about the game and my posting on this in forrum was to find out if it truly is designed more heavily towards intel if it is they need to update and optimize the game because more than 1/2 the players are playing on budget lowwer end units usualy amd me i have more of a mid to high tier amd /ati rig and well the game is not playing properly or upto the expected levels it should my rig is way above the average setup for this game and to be honest performs like a far lowwer end pc than it should.

GW2 will never reach 100% on quad core or higher CPU, but will still bottleneck.

Why? Read Part 4.3 don’t think you fully understood the reason.

This made me LOL
GW2 is CPU bound Crysis is not and if you look in tast manager you might only be using not all of the CPU but one core will be high and the rest mid. The game is not made for Intel but Intel is the better processor for gaming and really for this game.

You should of gone intel instead of getting a 8350 cpu. Its not so great for many games. While its a step above the 8150 slightly, you would of been better off buying a i5 or even a i3. Both of which runs circles around amd cpus in gw2.

well i am not a intel fanboy i prefer amd more bang for buck

longstory i used to be a hardcore intel fan then well money got tight i went with a amd setup and well

enough said since i have been a dedicated amd person intel mobos are way overpriced

even ones with exact specs as amd version just with different sockets aka intel socketed the amd version is far cheaper and just as good add to it intel fanboys tend to be a hostile towards anyone with amd or often think they are superior at everything

i am a loley guy that works for a living and roots for the underdog and in past amd has never let me down for the price to performance ratio or reliability

yes they tend to take a bit more finess to get everything tweaked for optimum performance but that is the fun. then you get into the overclocking even more fun i like to be on my toes and learning

so far amd has never let me down ever and well the 955be has lasted me many years and performed flawless so the you should have bought a intel thing i think is a bit out of order.

see how much easier that is to read?

if you start breaking up your posts so people dont see a “OMGWALLOFTEXTFROMHELL” you may get more help and responses……as it stands people see your post and just go find somebody else to help.

I am not trying to attack you, you just need to learn to communicate online.

I also use amd and prefer amd as a brand, but I also build intel for people, honestly once you hit 4.5+ on the 8350 and 3570/3770k chips, you really cant tell the dif in this game……I have yet to find another game I cant play or get poor perf in….hell no other game I have tried has come close to running as poorly as gw2……settings dont scale for kitten……the games just a mess……sucks because the gameplay is a blast……i just get sick of seeing the game run like warmed over kitten.

my advice, and Note i didnt read your first 2 or so posts, because, OMGWALLOFTEXTFROMHELL…..(i was once like you…i learned to communicate online….)

Disable core parking
install process lasso(if it dosnt help you can remove it, it really helps some people)

overclock an 8300 series chip to 4.4-4.6 range and you shouldnt have any more bottleneck then an intel at the same range.

i did notice you have an MSI board, they are known to have bios related perf issues with some games, when you build a new rig, DO NOT BUY MSI…

the best buy for an amd board at the moment is an extreme4 from asrock(970 if your poor/cheap, 990fx if you can swing it) you cpu is likely the bottleneck now, but alas, your at the end of your upgrade path on that board most likely….

I will say if you can get a later stepping 1090t or 1100t you could probably get 4gz range clocking…but thats not a great investment, as many of those chips are now going for more then the cost of a 8350+990fx extreme4……

anet built this game with dreams of a console port, its easy to spot the signs.

1. 3 heavy threads, the xbx360 has 3 cores

2. dx9, the xbx360 is dx9 level hardware.

3. they abandoned their promise of years ago and we dont have dx10 or 11 support.

and the last issue

4. somebody saw dollar signs at the prospect of selling this game to people running windows XP whos systems really cant run the game worth a kitten #8230;..

I do not blame the developers fully, they work for their bosses…..the people we should all blame for this kitten.

Overclocking FX series makes little to no performance difference in CPU dependent games. If I was naive I’d belive you when you say everything runs perfect with your AMD system. However, since I’m not and I’m a system builder and enthusiast I do not.

The only time the FX series is ok is when the game is more GPU dependent, CPU dependent? Intel runs circles around it, sadly. Find me a benchmark that shows the FX beating out similarly priced intel cpus. You won’t!

oh all internal radiators within towwer are gone only thing in towwer is a pump and waterblocks i also have a pump down by radiator in cooling cabinet i use a special coolant mix 15% auto coolant mix ( i use the green universal ) which is diluted to 15% with distilled water then i add hyper lube a (auto coolant additive) to raise the anti corrosion ability of coolant then i add 4 drops of dawn dish detergeant ( per gallon )it allows for better heat transfer dawn breaks the surface tension of water allowing heat transfer from metal to coolant and vise versa and kills ability for algea and such to grow in system the above mix i have never had to change for years vs reg pc coolant every 6 months or so and did i mention this mix is cheap as hell (and makes alot of coolant in one mix)and works flawlessly and is safe to plastic accetal and all metals and even lubricates the pumps and such alot of cars use acetal aka plastic parts on cooling system and use copper and aluminum and brass also steel and if coolant is maintaned properly never corrode or breakdown.

the hotfixxes are for win7 and win8 they allow the os to use the cores properly with the 8350 otherwise the system wont allow but a certain core to take top usage and will randomly jump around on other cores which from my research drops the 8350’s performance by upto 50% on any game period even web browsing without the hotfixxes after the hotfixxes it runs properly

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116781
the 3330, its very hit and miss if the 3330 will win, in some games its faster others its slower stock for stock, but unlike the 3330 the 8350 is fully overclockable and with proper cooling and motherboard many people are able to hit 5+ghz on them.

as to anand……humm….

http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph6396/51124.png
I dont see a 3330 or 3450 there…..
so for your $40 you gain 7.3fps by going 3570k over 8350

http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph6396/51138.png
in dragonage that may seem a bit better, as 10bucks will buy you 18.2 fps….saddly thats pointless when any modern 1/2 decent cpu will get you over 100fps…

now when you move to tasks that arent simply games(i will come back to games

http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/cpu/amd/Vishera/pred-cinebenchx.png

this task is very intel centric as its build using intels tools, these reviewers also do not run the patch to remove the intel compiler bias, the few that have show a much wider gap in amd’s favor….that thats despite intels compiler still blocking avx from non-intel chips(cant be patched out yet, but the bias dispatcher that wont give amd optimized sse3/4 can be)

“In areas where AMD holds a significant advantage, Haswell would need to deliver more than a 15% gain in performance at the same price point to catch up.”

nope amd are horrible and cant stand up to intel in any way….your anand review proves it…..oh wait…..

I admit, game to game, perf can be quite inconsistent, but, your also think over-clocking does no good…..

if anet go back to source and fix their kitten, they could get gw2 running like the above….(hell wonder if they could license the frostbyte2 engine….lol)

nuff said on my part, your gonna believe you cant game on amd, when I know for a fact you can, perhaps I will see about getting some screenshots from ps2(another very cpu bound game) to show that you can game on amd….but then I may not bother, as many others have reported similar results to me….

as to your video….when you can show me details of the configs and somebody who dosnt gotta use compat mode to get a game working(duno wtf they did there but….i have never had to do that with gw2…….makes me wonder how anybody can take them seriously……)

I will have to run a test for you Aza.2105 if i get around to it, showing my min/max fps doing stuff like this video…..I like how their fps drop to 20 doing basic pve……i NEVER SEE THAT…..nore do i see 6fps.
but then again, Im not an incompetent noob who cant get the game to load without compat mode……

I have no idea wth they did to their AMD system to make it run so poorly but….whatever it was…..they need to fix it and retest.

they also need to disable core parking on both chips, they could also test process lasso on both(helps balance core load better)

installing the linked patches is a good idea as well, it helps fix some scheduler bugs on both amd and intel( a few reviews show this helps both sides not just amd)

aza my comment on that video is simple that was early testing of game and before there was hardly any support for the fx8350 period and likely without the hot fixxes from microsoft for fx 8350 which are not included in the regular updates you have to email microsoft and then they will email you them trust me i am doing hardcore research on this now

The hotfixes are already a part of windows 8, and regardless they didn’t increase performance by any substantial amount. In some cases it decreases performance.

Jaz,

These are all gpu dependent games though and with a oc 8350 vs a stock intel cpu. The benchmarks in that video seem accurate, I’m using a 8150 and get very similar fps. Its ok, I know you like AMD. I do too, but they are bad in cpu dependent games like GW2, SC2, WoW etc.

They are good for other stuff though, like the 8 cores are quite handy in my digital art apps or anything that can take advantage of them.

Aza,the patch in my testing didnt do much other then help deal with core parking BUT, as with intel, disabling core parking helps fix some perf issues on amd, it should be something any gamer does if they want best perf.

Im sorry you hate amd and feel they cant game, but thats not my problem or ricks, yes I get that you think no amd cpu can play this game…..I do find that very funny tho, since I runn around and kill and get better perf then your video you use as proof…..a video where they cant even get the game to load without using compat mode……

first time I have ever seen somebody have to use compat mode to get gw2 running……again I really would like to know WTF they did that not only caused such horrible perf but also caused the game to not start without tricks…..

the 8120 I had was also at 4.6 mind you, sc2 runs fine for me….benches like kitten I will admit that, but, I can disable the unit limit and not drop into the 20’s or teens like many reviews show.

WoW runs fine as well….funny you say it runs poorly.....2560×1440 its always locked at 60fps(radeon pro locked fps to refresh rate(not vsync) works wonders for smoothing out gameplay)

and the biggest issue with the 8150 is if your not overclocking the 8100 line they do bench like kitten and some games REALLY dislike them.

sorry but,I have tested this game as well as sc2 and WoW and a slew of others side by side with my system….on 3570k/3770k as well as other models, honestly inmost cases, actual gameplay, you cant feel the dif, if you run an fps counter you see that your getting 60 rather then 80fps at times, but lets be honest, most people cant tell the diff because they are on 60hz monitors….

editing htis because I saw you posted as I was typing it.

Also note: even a dude with a top end intel 2011 chip will tell you, no matter what chip you get, this games never gonna run like it should, SolarNova and I have talked about this alot in various threads, this games not just cpu bound its got other issues.

I have beyond all logic at times seen old c2q and phenom II quads give better perf then top end amd or intel chips of this generation…… it makes no logical sense….. the games just VERY VERY poorly coded and optimized…..I got this feeling if they got anybody working on optmizing the game, they are having to start from the ground up on the client/engine to get it to run decently on modern systems.

I really think its clear these guys wrote the game with dreams of a console port, 3 heavy theads, the 360 has 3 cores, dx9, the 360 has dx9 level gfx……..to bad the game is just way to heavy for a console cpu…..

the bonus was, they sold the game to xp users who cant run it properly, and are even told by support to upgrade to a 64bit os to fix memory errors…this on a 32bit game……WTF is that about!!!!

the 50% increase i was refering to was amd cnq off and core parking diasabled and the microsoft hotfixxes add all of them together you get upto or around 30%-50% increased performance over regular install and oem settings then comes the ram timings if you tighten the timings any amd cpu will respond way better amd isnt all about frequency every amd i have ever dealt with love the tightened timings over frequency also upping the nb frequency makes a amd cpu jump and run like someone fed it meth lol
