The game engine is not efficient enough to enable 60 fps during big WvWvW battles. The highest fps your likely to get there is 30fps.. that thats with a heavty cpu.

60+ FPS is easyily possible in pve however.

The kind of rig you would need is.

I5 or I7 at 4.5ghz+
Single OC’d 680 or equivalent. Or 2x Sli 660ti ..or triple sli 500 series. (this is to get the higher than 60 fps in pve)
RAM ..anything above 6gb will be enough tbh.
A SSD will help remove or reduce any stutter from loading textures and such from the drive.

You ‘shouldnt’ need a rig this powerfull for a MMO ..but GW2’s engine just isnt capable of giving good performance in heavy situations atm ..so a heavy duty rig is required to compensate.

3930k 4.6ghz | NH-D14 Cooler | P9x79 Pro MB | 16gb 1866mhz G.Skill | 128gb SSD + 2×500gb HDD

If I would have picked up the box and seen that at least I wouldn’t of wasted money on a game that runs bad in WvW because I would have known my computer was not good enough.

They really should have put recommended requirements on this game they had to know that most people who bought it were gonna have problems because of weak hardware but they just wanted that cash flow and who cares if people have crappy performance we already got your cash.

It’s pathetic though that you need to OC your i5/i7 high end cpu to get normal FPS in this game..

Aye it is but usualy people who have a K series i5 or i7 have it OC’d anyway ..or atleast they should ..otherwise its a waste.
Even som1 new to OCing can easyily get a 4ghz OC from sandbridge i5’s and i7’s without much trouble, and with a little research reach 4.5ghz.

point is ..i personaly didnt OC my rig just for GW 2 ..i had this rig before GW2 released ..its just somthing you do :P

i agree though ..this game as optimization issues with heavy load.

I dought you can get 60+ FPS everywhere on the map with any setup with everything turned to max (to me that includes every option not everything but…)
But I run the game just fine with mixed settings and get 35/45 FPS in big zergs in WvW
i5 2500k @4.4
16gb 2133 ram
6970 GPU @ 950/1425

My game has never crashed probably because my PC is set up right. i’ve been build them for about 20 years.

I found what you will need this should do the trick. i7 2600k @5.863 and a 7970 @ 1200/1600

Also add your DDR4 ram @ 3800 MHz ( sorry this is not out yet)

Oh dude, I WOULDN’T buy a 12837219312723€ price PC like some people suggest. My friend bought a 700€ PC and he can play all the games in peace, 60 FPS… 0 FPS issues. Believe me, its not always about the PC, the games have to be optimized… Guild Wars 2 is a recent game and the optimize is ongoing, my PC costed 1100€, I can play everything, even Dishonored, all the massive graphical games you can imagine in peace… But I can’t play GW in peace, I even made a topic few minutes ago talking about it… I read a post where a developer said he wanted to put the game running perfectly on the most recent PC’s (like mine)… Its a terrible feeling to buy a beast machine like mine and get only 40 FPS’s in LA for example… >-<" So, you better go for something simple ( 1000€ max ), because if you’re going for 2000€ and you get the same FPS issues as me, you’ll cry an ocean, not a river.

Cheers

You asked I answered and yes with your friends build he can do that with every game but this one and it will never get much better. Best advise I can give you is the game is what it is play and have fun or come here and kitten.
If you have a i5 and atleast a 6870 video card and are running on a 1080p monitor you get about what the game will do (of course if you could overclock the CPU to about 4.0 or higher it would help some but not everywhere on the map) the game is what it is lower settings and play or not.
I built a budget PC for a customer and used a AMD II x4 OC it to 3.8 paired it with a 560ti and guess what he runs the game very close FPS wise to mine, he strugles more in WvW but has less than 1/2 the cost I have in mine.
EDIT in this game you will not see alot of increase in a e700 PC and a 1100 PC but you will see some but not much the main thing is geting over max setting and being able to OC the CPU.
