upgrading my cpu
Ur motherboard is way too old to support any decent performing CPU saddly, this game is very heavy CPU dependent so u need a very fast CPU in order to play the game ok (u won’t get perfect performance even with a 1000$ CPU so u can imagine how much horsepower u need). Also GW2 performs very bad on 32bits OS, what i would recomend is a full system upgrade. if u are un the budget of 250$ or less i would recomend an AMD FX4300+motherboard (if you know how to overclock and stuff) or intel i3-3220+motherboard, 4/8Gb of 1333Mhz ram and Coolermaster hyper 212EVO CPU cooler.
On the video side, any 100$ Video card should run this game without any trouble.
Yea, you have no real option to upgrade. Basically, time for a entire new computer and likely the most cost effective route.

indeed .full upgrade.
FYI: a gaming rig generaly needs upgrading every 2 to 4 years depending on how much you spend on it when you upgrade. If you save up and spend alot it can last atleast 4 years with little to no upgrades before a complete overhaul is again needed.
My advice for a cost effective setup would be.
Intel 2550k + Motherboard + Evo 212 cooler (OC to 4.5ghz)
GTX 560ti or ATI equivalent
8 or 16 gb 1600mhz RAM
600W PSU minimum, recommend 750w
If that doesnt fit inside your case or your case has bad cooling then any ~£60 gaming case will do. If you HDD’s and Optical drivers are still IDE, then you will need some Sata drives. They dont cost much. ~£20 for optical and ~£75 for 500gb-1TB HDD.
If you from the US then i leave the prices to you to find but for a gaming rig it shouldnt cost to much.

That does no look cost effective to me. Power hungry video card that I would never recomend with todays cards that are out, overkill on the PSU, ATI is out of business it’s AMD now, their still no reason to get 16GB of ram 8 is overkill, I need to test the CPU overclock from my stock speed to what I run it at 4.4 because when I bump it to 5.0 their no differance in performance.
So I want to invest in a better cpu to increase my fps. This is not something I know a whole lot about, so I need advice. My motherboard is an ACPI x86-based pc. My current processor is a amd athlon 64 x2 dual core processor 4200+, which is a socket 2. I run vista 32 bit. What options do I have?
Post your exact PC or a link to it. Include the motherboard model #, powersupply name and model #, what video card you have, and what resolution your monitor runes at 900p 1050p or whatever it is.
I personaly find it a good idea to go overkill on the PSU ..dont really wanna run a PSU that is constantly runing at its limits. As for the gpu being power hungry ..tbh when looking at a gaming rig ..how power hungry somthing is shouldnt really be on your mind ..ur after performance ..not a ‘green’ pc ..that and a 560ti should be cheaper than a 660ti and the performance is fine :P
I did say 8 OR 16 ..i mean yea 8gb is perfectly fine atm. But as with what happend with 4gb.. it soon become not enough. So 16gb is good ‘future proofing’ ..but 8gb is fine if you wanna save money.
but anyway ..its just my opinion ..ofcourse ur free to disagree and have ur own aswell ..so yea ..no worries

Looks like a great setup to me. I agree with nova.

Motherboard is asus m2n-sli, graphics card and power supply are fine, both are brand new and power supply is 800 watts. Just wanted to know if I can fit am3 in my slot.

Look at the supported CPU list form the manufacture.

There are a few AM3 supported cpu with bios update.
