i do use a router, however was wondering if i need a speacial gaming router to cut down on lag.
like when in wvw my fps drop, and i have a fast pc but my 39fps average in wvw dropped too like 16. gpu and cpu didnt seem to be fully utilized. (i monitored both to see if i really wanna get an even faster graphics card wich i determed i dont however i am anyways since will be moiving from a ips 1080p to sh-ips QHD)
atleast im guessing it is the network and wondered if a gaming router would help? what i have is a router but is a firewall cisco type router it does have plenty of speed to do its thing considering i use it for one computer and maybe a laptop but im sure it wasnt designed with gaming in mind

In my opinion – no.
If your router is working properly, it won’t be the cause of any lag. I don’t buy the claims from so-called “gaming routers”. What do they supposedly do (as far as packet through-put) that a standard router doesn’t do?
What I’m getting at here, is that a “standard” router isn’t going to have sub-standard performance. It’s not like a standard router is a VW Bug and a “gaming” router is a Porsche, though the sellers of such items want you to think so.
I would generally agree with abomally.2694. However, brands can make a difference.
This is from personal experience; I’ve been a fan of Netgear for a while now. I use Netgear for my home and I recommend it for anyone I help put together a wireless solution. D-links have been hit or miss for me in the past. I would still rate them good. Belkins are just no. I’ve experienced to many issues; including poor signal strength and poor quality of construction.
I would recommend a router that broadcasts 802.11n @ 5GHz. 5GHz band has less interference from other technology. Therefore, it should give you a better signal.
If you have some older gear that cannot work at 5GHz, I would recommend a dual band wireless router. Just about all modern ones are all dual band and have been for a while. You can broadcast 802.11g @ 2.4ghz and 802.11n @ 5ghz.
Something like the Netgear Nighthawk R700 supports *UP TO* 1300Mbps on wireless. Honestly, you don’t need for gaming. You’ll still be limited by the speed of your internet connection; which is generally 15Mbps. Unless you need greater speed for streaming media across your house, a general 300Mbps will be more than enough.
Here is a list of Netgear’s offering:

I use a WNDR3400 and it works great.
If I were to upgrade, it would really be for other features; not “speed”.

If you want a better router, replace the firmware with dd-wrt or tomato.
That said, its most likely your computer being bottlenecked in WvW especially during large zerg. See Part 4.3 – 4.13 to understand why.

Your network has nothing, at all to do with FPS in game, there is no relation to it in the least, even if you have massive skill lag etc the game will still be rendering frames at the same rate, that is all local hardware after the network. The network is just getting updates for whats going on and where everyone is etc, it does not have to do with rendering which all happens client side.
Gaming routers are also a joke in most cases and there are better routers on the market. However, as stated, so long as the router is working without problems you will see no gain from them. The higher end routers handle more connections and throughput and have more custom options then your run of the mill router. However, unless you are running a farm of computers with torrents on them or doing large 24/7 file transfers from computer to computer in your local network etc, you will see no gain from a highend router.
