God, YB is as bad as BP with hiding in the towers. Almost an hour in their BL and I couldn’t get one person to actually duel me. Always gotta be 3:1 or better. One guy of higher rank than me actually hid inside a camp, behind the guards of all things. Wouldn’t come out and play, so I walked off, went in a big circle, came back, and capped it anyway. I am disappoint.
I honestly don’t understand why people bother playing the game if they aren’t going to PLAY THE GAME. If you’re in WvW, you obviously enjoy PvP so why are you making the NPC’s do the work for you? Or why wait until you outnumber the enemy to attack? If you don’t enjoy using SKILL to beat players, go back to PvE where you can gang up with your group and auto attack a mob to death.
If you “honestly” don’t understand, allow me to explain.
Not everyone plays World vs. World because they want to duel players. Some people play because they enjoy WvW in its entirety – and fighting is just one part of it! I for one really don’t enjoy PvP at all in almost any game.
Additionally, some players are not built for dueling, so there is no illusion that someone who is roaming solo is probably built for it and will likely spike them. My Guardian is a great example of a really good team player built off buffing and healing others, and in a mid-large group she is a beast. But she doesn’t do enough burst damage to take down most players 1v1, and if I’m facing a Mesmer or a Thief I’m smart enough to know the fight is just going to be annoying.
So if I’m the guy standing in the camp defending it – perhaps communicating enemy movement to a camp that we strategically need to feed a tower or keep we are trying to upgrade – why would I give that up to jump into a 1v1 fight with someone who has multiple advantages over me in 1v1 play?
BTW, it wasn’t me in the camp but I thought it might help you to understand an easy concept that apparently isn’t understood by some people.
So what you’re saying is, you enjoy roaming with a zerg, but you solo roam to towers to report 1 or 2 enemies coming by? Yes, that sounds like an important job. It just baffles me that people play WvW, knowing that 70% of the gameplay there is PvP, and then they say they don’t enjoy PvP. Healing and protecting allies against enemies is technically PvP (refer to monks from gw1).
Aeros reminds me of this.
Oooooooh so that’s what they meant by “you had awoken the beast”
Ok THAT makes more sense…

Something I remembered about last night. A friend of mine from DR and I were roaming around BP bl, and went into lowlands camp trying to duo cap it. When the 2 ebay were trying to defend it by running back to the npc’s and then back out to us, couldn’t kill us, then started to build an arrowcart juust close enough to aggro the npc’s. You eventually got us because we were kind of wtf’ing in party chat and loling. That was fun! can we play again?!
Apparently, high rank a good fighter does not always make.
Oh god no. Some of the most terrible players I’ve fought have been higher rank than myself. I had some like Bronze Invader the other day Heartseeker me repeatedly while I was at full health, right in my warrior’s face. I’ve seen people do this before, but it’s still one of the most hilarious things to look at even so. You can really tell who has just hopped on board the karma train.
Also, and not in any way related to the previous topic. Would the esteemed Choco or any other of our myriad of amazing mes players be willing to show me some of the good hidey holes around WvW? My next project is my mezzums. =3
I’ve actually found some hilariously good hiding spots on my warrior while inside of keeps like Hills and whatnot. If they don’t find me I’m actually able to flip it myself if I’m all the way on inner. XD

Not exactly.
What I’m saying is that I enjoy WvW as a complete package that includes small group roaming, camp flipping and yak killing, the leadership of commanding a group, coordinating and communicating with my team, offensive siege warfare against towers and keeps, the strategy of where to attack and when, large scale battles (zerg on zerg), and yes even scouting can be an important role and enjoyable at times (depending on my energy level and mood).
I’ll happily hang out and scout a tower or camp for a brief time and communicate enemy movement and numbers to our commanders if its going to benefit our overall success. And yes, I would do that over a 1v1 duel if my overall goal was to be alive at that particular camp as a scout for the benefit of my team.
Some of us do enjoy playing for points, playing with strategy and tactics, and look at the entire picture of what our server is doing instead of simply focusing on getting into as many fights as possible.
Now let me also clarify that fighting is a very enjoyable part of the package that is WvW. In fact without it the whole thing would be rather pointless. Running around PvDoor is incredibly boring and if that’s all there was to WvW no one would play (except some people farming I suppose). My ideal night in WvW would be with a group of 3-7 people flipping camps and towers, disrupting our opponents supply lines, distracting their focus on defending their BL instead of going offensive into our BL, resetting upgraded towers, maybe ninja-flipping a keep if we are lucky, and all the while running into small groups of 5-20 enemies to fight. But, my actual focus in WvW is to help my server win, and I’ll take on a number of roles in order to make that happen be it scout, yak escort, running supply to repair walls, etc.
On the issue of my Guardian’s build the point I was making is simply that not everyone is optimized for 1v1 fights. I’m pretty confident that unless you really suck, you are probably going to kill me in a 1v1 fight especially if you are roaming and looking for just such a fight. My guardian has a staff (terrible single-target damage), is set up with traits that only benefit me when I heal/buff allies, etc. So while I want to run with groups (small and large), I’m not really interested in dueling. This would be even more the case if I’m doing any of things I listed above – yak escort, supply run, scout, etc.
Make sense now?
We are hosting a 3v3 tournament this Saturday and Sunday (August 17-18) which is open to all participants. It is a 3v3 deathmatch-style bracket tournament in a spvp custom arena. It is hosted during NA prime time but open to all.

Eh… Zara hasn’t failed to humble me in a match so far. Though I feel I did far better this last time than the first. I attribute this to two factors. One, despite the pet dmg nerf Menorah’s condi/beast build is still pretty viable. Secondly, I wasn’t drunk and a nub this time. =P
Still one of the best rangers I’ve encountered.

Yes, but it seems like you’re dodging around the statement that you do enjoy PvP by saying that you just enjoy WvW in general. PvP is the biggest part of what makes WvW what it is, if we were just fighting mobs that wouldn’t be any fun. Now what i’m saying is, if you are with 1 or 2 friends and i were to walk into you guys trying to fight, would you run to your camp or tower for support? or fight the fair fight? I’m already outnumbered so why do you have to retreat to a camp to fight? These are the people i’m talking about.
Thanks to Hawk and GF for the great fights in Eternal last night, always fun fighting you guys.

A couple things.
First, what makes something fun for you is not always what makes something fun for someone else. Maybe just realize that and leave it be instead of trying to berate people for not having your “superior” form of fun.
Second, there are actually lots of good reasons to “hug towers” (or camps). If that tower has no one in and you are responsible for keeping it from being taken, you want to be in that tower as much as possible. If someone is running supply to said tower, stopping to 1v1 and losing might cause the loss of the tower. Similarly, if you are in the tower and go out to 1v1, you might cause the loss of the tower.
I spend much more time than I would really like on defense and I can’t tell you how many times I have seen someone go out to duel someone 1v1 and then two thieves un-stealth and gank the person.
Also, I have on many occasions seen 1-3 players trying to encourage the defenders to come out and open field fight and then once the defenders are too far from the door to get back inside, a zerg of 10-15 comes from the other direction and takes the tower.
You personally might not engage in such tactics, but they do happen frrequently, and EBay is more fond of them than any other server I have faced.
Very fun yesterday in Ehmry borderland fighting primarily in the south with lotta open field fights, random siege throw downs, and the retake of greenbriar episode 32

Ok, i’m not pushing my form of fun on him, but he admitted to enjoying fighting others, is that called something else in WvW? Cause i thought that’s still technically PvP…. In the end, we are enjoying the same thing, WvW. You’re right, he may find fun in fighting in bigger groups, and for me in smaller groups, but my statement was adressing the players who will only fight you if their group is bigger than yours or if they have a tower or camp to support them. That makes it a quite unfair fight for the people on the receiving end, don’t you think? So why is it that these people don’t enjoy fair fights? Even if you lose, what’s to be afraid of dying in a game?
I just find it annoying, as well as many others, when we go to WvW expecting some player activity and some fair fights, and when we get there, people hide in the towers or camps, leaving no choice but to zerg… What happened to small group fights of 5 or 10?
Epic, fantastically epic tower hugging today from [VP], [LOCO], [AAA], and [HK] from Borlis Pass.
Congratulations, I’m astonished by your lack of individual skill.
Epic attack on our Tower from [GF], [FTF], and [CoF]from Ebay.

Ohhhh, you mean the single piece of siege (3) people put down in an attempt to drag you out of your towers???
Your right, we did fail… We failed at getting you outside. I underestimated how terrified you all are of dieing in a video game.
Cheers.
Always good to see GH fighting in the open field

We succeeded.
The sad thing is, apparently you thought we were trying to take a tower…

Yah got me! I’m terrified of dieing in a video game! That’s why i’m here complaining about how no one will fight me because people are to busy trying to play WvW like its suppose to be played!

Amazingly, some people on Ehrmy care more about the fighting itself than eating burgers in a tower next to their precious ACs.

We’re not afraid of dieing, we’re actually quite fashion conscious, it’s just a pain changing armor colors all the time. Aren’t we just red to you red to you guys anyway, why do you care?
I wasn’t even in whatever group you’re trying to thump your chest about, just confirming that there are groups on Ehmry who just roam and fight. I could personally care less about most of the objectives.
Im liking that 3 keep + sm for yaks in EBG right now

You must be new to the EB vs BP fights.
Some guilds like [GF] could care less about taking a tower, we build zerg bait to get u out of your towers and away from your AC’s so we can fight.
I can remember many times when the wall is down but we dont cap the tower because we want more ppl to come and try to protect it so we can keep a nice stream of bags coming in.

Sil, there are groups like that on BP too, quite a few actually. There are also groups that get off on defending objectives. From what I’ve seen all 3 servers in this match have both.
im enjoying the fight between these 3 servers and i hope we can get this match up again
What happened to small group fights of 5 or 10?
At the windmills mostly.
Sometimes I go out hunting camp flippers and get into some decent small fights if said flippers are a havoc group and not a bored zerg.
lulz @ ppl who think GF is interested in towers/ppt

I’m glad that you are open-minded enough to consider and understand the other aspects of WvW that people enjoy, and to understand that as a reason why they ‘hide’ in towers or avoid some 1v1 fights.
Don’t mistake my explanation though for my personal preference in the game. I do enjoy fighting enemies, but I don’t enjoy straight PvP games where the only objective is to fight the other player. What I enjoy are games where there are other strategic objectives and battle (PvP) is part of the equation. However, PvP is not my sole, or even primary, reason for entering WvW.
I sincerely do hope that for your sake, and for others who aren’t interested in the strategic aspect of WvW, that ANet releases some way for groups to straight GvG.
Im liking that 3 keep + sm for yaks in EBG right now
Anyone can crash 20 golems into a keep and cap it. Whether or not you can hold it for points to tick though is another matter entirely.

The point score is ultimately meaningless to me – it’s simply a PvDoor at night and biggest zerg during the day. While I’m not in [GF], I have similar interests as what Brando said. The combat itself is more interesting to me than actual “winning” of WvW because of the reasons I just named above.

The server that couldn’t care less too. I don’t speak for eveyone, but I personally would love to drop a rung or two on the ladder, lol. I don’t want your towers, that’s more work for me because then I’m obligated to sit and watch it. It’s about the bags! It’s about looking up on those walls and seeing loot standing there I can’t reach with all 4’11" of me. Rofl.
