So, as many of you know, our largest guild, [ALS], is transferring out. Our current matchup is against BP & SBI, and, as many people on AR will agree, we never had enough people to be able to really compete against these two servers, even with all of [ALS]. They simply have too many numbers at any point in time, and able as our players may be, it comes down to numbers in the end.

With [ALS] leaving, our server will take a big hit, and I have no doubt that we will eventually drop a ‘tier.’ I know there isn’t tiers anymore, but it’s the best way to put it. However, I, like many others I’m sure, don’t want to have to deal with playing BP & SBI again. I wouldn’t be surprised, that if left alone, we’d play the same matchup a third time.

So, I’m creating this thread in hopes that the players inside of the current matchup will speak up and voice their opinions, to see if the major consensus seems to be that we would like to drop. If this is the case, I hope Anet will take it into consideration and do something about it. I’ve noticed a few Anet players in WvW that I’ve never seen on our server before, so I’m hoping this means that they’re already looking into it.

I know I don’t speak for everyone, so if you’re on AR & disagree with me, please post about it here & explain your reasoning.

I’ve attached a picture of how the current matchup is going. I do realize it’s a little late, but it’s not THAT late. We can say that many players are doing the new content or whatever, but when it comes down to it, AR is the PvP server. The other two servers are PvX and are more likely to take a bigger hit in terms of lost numbers doing PvE.

ArenaNet isn’t going to manipulate the system and move servers down a tier every time they lose players. You guys will just have to suffer through a few matchups until you’re moved down by the system or get more players/get better. A lot of other servers have gone through the same thing.

In the current matchup system, matchups between servers of 2 tiers difference is possible and happens. Server score / ranking take weeks to reflect the exodus of WvW guilds as the glicko system does not take into account : defectors from Team A to Team B.

It is unfortunate that you are gonna be a victim/punching-bag server for the next few weeks, battling the loss of your forces, trying to rebuild while constantly losing in matchups. It is a downward spiral momentum as you will bleed more WvW guilds defecting to stacked servers as it is the easier and faster solution than trying to rebuild.

Of course, Anet can do the " Hand of God " cheat on the RNG and put u with lower ranked servers for the next few weeks matchup. May the lucky stars shine on you and send lottas stuff to Anet people you know.

You’re not locked in a tier anymore, so it will be a much shorter adjustment and it’s easily possible you could end up in a lower match by random chance… or a higher one.

I’m disappointed that ALS wants to move out. AR’s players could teach most of SBI a thing or two about how to play PvP properly. I’d rather see a higher population on AR so we’d have no choice but to pay attention… but if a guild wants to transfer, there’s nothing much I can do.

old system. Anvil rock spent 10 weeks in T5 matched up against BP/EB.

New system, first 4 weeks, same rank (15) still in T5 against BP/SBI.

All AR needs is 1 week out of T5, one week vs 2 lower ranked servers to start the adjustment of our glicko rating.

Every week that AR stays in T5, is another week it bleeds players.

Right now I would say our rating could drop 200 points before it evens out.

Just in this short time ranking wise.

AR was at +2 or so before ALS quit. Now?

Don’t play on EB then. If your entire server concentrates on your borderlands that will give you the fights you are looking for. Even BP runs from SBI’s zerg in EB from time to time because they are “Afraid of the numbers”

There’s no tiers anymore, you can fight people with higher rating and lower rating than you. There are servers right now fighting other servers 200-300 rating apart. Your rating will adjust based on your performance against servers.

I never get why guilds do that. They move to some mega WvW server and become just one more cog in the machine, where before they were the respected big shots of their own server.

DB isn’t a bad place to go if you’re trying to find a server that has good non-NA coverage, but you don’t want to end up on a server with so much NA coverage that your own contribution is meaningless.

if you’re sick of logging on every day to discover that you’ve lost everything overnight (or while you were at work, or whatever) it’s completely understandable to contemplate a move elsewhere.

They paid just as much for the game as anyone else, and if they want to move, they’re entitled to do so at will. Play for your enjoyment, or why play at all. I spoke with them over the weekend and they seemed like a fantastic group, worthy of anyone’s respect.

I think they’ll be really happy in their new home, and I think DB was a great choice on their part. I can’t wait to fight Dragonbrand again! I’m sure that would be a really fun matchup.

DB has “OK” NA coverage, but they’re definitely not stacked there. Certainly nothing like TC is at the moment. Moving ~200 players over was by no means a meaningless contribution.

DB has a ton of coverage during SEA, which is one of the reasons they’ve always been successful as a server, but they couldn’t even come close to competing in NA until CO and RE (EMP) transfered over.

I think ALS’s choice was excellent for both them and for DB.

No worries AR, you guy have solid players and talented small guilds. You are better off without them.

People act like uplevels are defenseless children. When I started WvW I was lvl 20 on my engineer and I was still killing 80’s. Also, I highly doubt they were all upleveled.

I can feel your pain.

The very same thing happened with Desolation. We stayed in tier #1 forever and despite our current rank is 7 and we have been losing week after week, we have been once again matched against EU #1 for now for 2nd week in a row. EU tier #1 mega lag and being hopelessly outmanned against Visunah Square, made our lose most of our big WvWvW guilds to other servers and after that we haven’t gotten any guilds coming to us. Some brave individual players are still transferring to Desolation and we have been training a lot of new WvWvW players and new Desolation WvWvW guilds are popping up. Luckily we got a huge pve and big pvp base to tap on.

It seems Anvil Rock and Desolation have some other similarities as well. We are both the leading tpvp servers of our continent.

Perhaps we should join forces?

I am not keen to move to NA, despite you actually tend to have more balanced match ups, but as it has been illustrated in the NA vs EU thread (and I have watched also WvWvW play videos from NA) it seems the EU meta game is more complex, much more open field battles, more about good fights than points.

I feel a bit jealous of those that moved away from AR, since that is the correct way to transfer out. They like each other enough that they are willing to transfer together to the same server into DB. That’s what I wanted for Kaineng, but it never materialized. Now former Kainengs are everywhere.

BURN and GOAT have left, or are in the process of leaving BP, partially for this reason.

The ALS-transfers finally realized that we didnt fit in on Anvil Rock. We wanted to turn it in to something that we would enjoy more, and we tried very hard to do that. We met a lot of resistence. When you have to fight your enemy AND your allies it makes playing much more difficult to enjoy. I don’t blame any of the people on AR for not wanting to conform to our playstyle, afterall Anvil Rock is recognized as THE PvP server for NA. Of course the people there want to solo-roam and do small group stuff, fight-clubs and 1v1’s, they LIKE PvP!! Those of us at ALS that dont enjoy that as much couldnt and shouldnt try to make them do something else. That is why we decided to move. Plenty of ALS decided to stay on AR because they DO like that style of play. I think after a week or two of adjustment and hopefully an appropriate matchup, AR will finally be able to place in a spot that allows for the PvP style play that they are seeking. The larger-group style tactics that ALS-transfers were seeking was keeping AR from being able to have PvP style WvW and with us leaving maybe everyone will fall into a comfortable form of gameplay. We are finding what we were looking for now, on DB: cooperation between the large guilds, the importance of using TeamSpeak, Large-group and Zerg-group tactics. Its very nice, its what we wanted to turn AR into, but why try to change a server that is happy with a different playstyle and doesnt want to change? I really hope those of you on AR that are upset with ALS will understand that this is what is best for all of us. And I hope that in the next few weeks you will finally be able to start enjoying WvW after all these horrible months.

I wouldn’t rate Dragonbrand as a mega-server these days. Yet, I also don’t hold any grudges against a game world server for having a lot of people in it. We use our guild-mate Yalta’s analogy for comparing world servers to towns and cities. In our transfer, we have merely moved from a relatively small town to a bigger city. We didn’t move to this city to bandwagon onto their successes. We’re here for opportunities and lifestyle more fitting with our goals and desires. We didn’t pay to win, we paid to have fun.

This happens on Dragonbrand as well. The difference between most cases of this happening in DB, and most cases of this happening in AR, is that in DB the capture-point will more often go down with a fight, and in AR it often will go down without anyone on the map having cared. Our players that spend 100s of gold in upgrades were looking for a culture of more frequent care and respect for those investments when the capture-point is positioned on the map to be naturally owned by our server.

In sPvP the players care deeply for points earned from capture-points, and WvW is also a game of conquest in that way. However, much of AR server is honestly more suited for playing against the roaming guild stacked Tier 8 servers. The WvW zones are often treated as an open-PvP area with Runescape-style player killing as the only objective.

ALS is not married to the mindless-zerg concept. In fact, we prefer zerg-breaking, siege defense, scouting, and havoc. Our commanders play squad-style when their tag is on, because that is what it’s best used for.

Many of us have thoroughly proven “how good” we are in class usage, including through attendance at fight clubs and participation in random encounter fights away from commanded squads. Our skill set is far more dynamic than a compulsion to either only fight in zerg or never fight in zerg. The ability to roam while maintaining situational awareness to leave the fight before a zerg roflstomps you is also a skill, as is the ability to lead or participate in group fights larger than yourself and the four people in your party.

Flirt came to us by way of our former-AR friend, Mysticloner, who had already moved to Dragonbrand. We came to the forum looking for a Tarnished Coast name to ask for counter-insight and found Hickeroar, whom left WvW to talk to us and brought a friend. Hickeroar very respectfully helped us learn that Dragonbrand would probably be our best fit for all things considered.

I think the people that brought AR to where it was are mostly no longer playing or on the server. At our peak we could barely beat BP. This is with the double team reset nights and the hole we had to climb out of every weekend. I think never having a night crew is what ultimately sealed the deal. All we needed was like 50 or so players to defend our real estate but it never materialized. Long ago when the first transfers fled it was because of our lack of night coverage. The joke is" fighting for 2nd" but the truth is we never had enough to begin with. Just hardened wvw players that don’t know the meaning of “wipe” but rather persistence. Anyway I would of went to Ebay haha but that is just me. Good luck to all AR transfers!
