I understand that you don’t want people to know that hacks exist so I’ll not mention them specifically.

However what you want and reality are two different things. Most people know they exist, yet the problem never is addressed and has gotten progressively worse.

The very sad thing about this is that it is EXTREMELY easy to catch these people.

How do you catch these people?

1.) You allow a person to be marked as a hacker by another player.
2.) You filter that players connection and track its communications.
3.) You analyze the data to see if there are tell tale signs of hacking such as:

a.) moving too fast.
b.) Swapping weapons too soon.
c.) z axis
d.) using skills before they are ready
e.) using skills in too quick a manner (20 hits in 1 millisecond for example)

4.) False reports result in a +1 day ban from reporting.

If this is done there will be no hacking as the checks are server side and will be 100% detectable.

Some hacks will still exist but the game breaking ones will go away.
The display issue hacks are even detectable via false data sent to a client with a GM’s supervision.

I have just told you one method you could use to address the hacking issue.
Does Anet have any plans to do anything about it and if so what?

Notice if you did the above you could tell hackers exactly this and they could not get around it. The problem is that NO…checking is being done now and the server simply does what the client tells it.

BTW: I am a professional software engineer, if your folks can’t do the above I can.

I dont think their server-side does has nearly as much control as you assume it does. Their answer to hackers stealing the Orb buff was, after some time of just more and more hacking, to simply remove the Orb.

Hackers go around for months on end, reported constantly, nothing gets done. And this doesnt include the possibility to exploit into keeps and towers, or under the map, without actually hacking anything.

And since a lot of hackers run Thieves, because you know… stealth, its very hard to rely on a report feature. Especially if you’re going to put rather severe penalties on “false” reports.
Which could simply be that arenanet doesnt recognize it as a cheat, even if it really was. Have fun getting banned for reporting someone you know was hacking. I’m not going to risk a ban on arenanets ability to pick up on someone cheating.

And that is assuming you can even target the person to begin with. Which often you cant.
Or cheats that are doubtfull to proof, seen my fair share of lag-cheaters. Simply flip the switch, enjoy being virtually untouchable, and how would arenanet know you didnt just have latency issues?

There is no easy fix, but there should certainly be an effort. Right now i think arenanet just pulled their hands completely off any attempt to moderate WvW.

You’re addressing the wrong issue. They almost certainly know how to fix the hacking. They just don’t want to spend the effort to do it. You should be telling them why they absolutely need to fix the hacking.

Theres some DR scrubs in EBG using hacks, seriously what kind of guardian build regens to full health every 2 seconds and still hits high and moves fast af! smh DR… having to use hacks…

No, you can’t, you can not defer such analysis and the decision on the consequences to software. Rather help them improving server software to limit these kinds of hacks with server side check and review the code with a ‘never trust the client’ attitude.

The huge issue is Anets own reporting system, which actually warns people on creating false accusations. All that does is further repulse players to turn in the offender due to lack of evidence. I would personally like to see this changed, if anything offer good rewards to people open to turning in offenders, that way the game is policed by the people who are actively on the system ( the players), Anet look up the data to trace the IP and MAC and work to banning the offenders where it hurts, the pocket and the price of new computer hardware. Slowly it will curb the cheaters and maybe put the game back on an even keel – cheating is cheating and every penalty should be thrown at them to deter them. Cheating is an exploit, exploits that lead on to gaining unfair wins, thus gold and loot which then goes further to manipulating the tradepost unevenly . It is an exploit so its Anet’s responsibility to weed them out and cut them short.

This is my second account, I am perma-banned from posting on my first one due to accumulation of infractions points for demanding answers from anet!
Anet dont ban the hackers, they ban us reporters!

Sure, so they preferred to delete existing mechanic (orbs) overhaul BL maps to add new mechanic, just because it’s so easy.

Good idea, but 2 “buts”:
1. Too big penalty for false reports. Mistakes happen (on both sides!).
2. Most problematic cheater are ones hitting from below map, and they can’t be targeted by player. Even in combat log they are marked as “unkown”.

On cheating topic I’m still waiting for answer for my report. We will see how it goes, coz at least they respond to tickets (for example grief report), even if it’s negative answer :/

Deleting the orbs = easy. There were zero plans to replace them with anything.

The new bloodlust ruins came much later, when they were still hoping to get people to play sPvP (hence the similarities between the ruins and sPvP)

server side detection always need more server resources and sometimes are not available for a company ’s budget .

also , OP you are very wrong to ask this : “d.) using skills before they are ready” , because when a player has cc on him the skills can not used and thay have new delay that make us press the skill even it is not ready .

if someone do a research will find that hackers are using memory injection that nothing can prevent this , except other tools like punkbuster that scan continuously check the memory for injections. this solustion is expensive and can create more porblems to regular players than the hackers themselves .

my solution to problem , at least for under the map attacks is very easy and it is inside the anet’s dev possibilities .

redesign the www maps ( this is a demand from anyone that i know and play wvw a lot . these maps are old now ) and remove any map data under of the current map and make them all the www maps like eotm where if someone pass under the map he will fall and die . they can add the same eotm rules in www maps that force the player fall if pass down of the maps. whatever they inject the client or not. this is the reason that eotm has not these type of issues !!!

with zero damage cost in game it is a good method to find the pve bots too ( all maps include the pve maps and dungeons are suffering from this issue , because there is water or static map data under the map . a search on youtube and you will fiind a lot of videos ) , because some of them they will be too lazy to return to fix their armor and they will continue fight … naked :p

p.s. personal i stopped playing in www this weekend in aurora glade (all know what server have the hackers and we know and their clan too ) , after the last attack on my server from these hackers because i don’t allow anyone ruin my game time with lame methods like cheats.

Who in their right mind would tyr to punish people for false reporting? sure if its the same group over and over to the point of obvious harassing sure, but give me a break. This wouldnt be a problem if reporting was possible. (the map redesign is an ok idea, but would cause major glitches)

And perma-ban for ‘false reports’….well I’m never playing PvP again…I will -never- support a perma-ban for anything but the most extreme reasons, this isn’t one of them. why do my good games get ruined for me?

edit: it might be wise to start a threat specifically to this subject and refuse to take part in WvW(or heck even gW2 period) until this outrage is fixed.

It just mean no CD.
Have you ever seem a Mesmer that keep disappearing. That is an example of no -CD hacks.

Bring back dhuum for public executions of hackers like they did in GW1. Freeze them somehow port them to the most populated pve map and have dhuum sever their life and drag them into the underworld. Problem solved. It worked in gw1 it will work again in gw2.

sorry mate , but i will disappoint you . you describe an almost perma PU stealth Mesmer that is allowed by traits to be : PU stealth mesmer build , while i am speaking of skills behavior when a player takes cc on him and he is contiuesly pressing the skills because of effect of cc that disabled his skills and he want them to use it , before the enemy that applied on him the cc kill him
