I think that limiting everyone to exotic gear(probably doable) is absolutely fine. Most of the GvGers I’ve met don’t like ascended at all.

thats what i wished they would have done from the start. make all ascneded go down to exotic stats when entering WvW. at least keep things sorta ok stat wise. but meh, lets keep climbing

I don’t think that would be easy to make. But a gear check and a message “You are wearing ascended equipment, please replace it” would be easy.

When a lot of people (compared to sPvP) ask for a game mode in an MMO with 0 rewards for it, you just know that that mode is good.

How frequently are there GvG’s? I don’t see many on the ‘upcoming GvG’ part.
It’s rare and that makes it special and fun. But if it’d become a full fleshed out gamemode outside of WvW, expect it to burn out soon. Reasons being it very demanding on player count (name me one game with such high player requirements that’s somewhat competitive) and deathmatch.

They are constant GvGs, we have one Tuesday, nope its not rated. The huge majority of guilds doing GvGs dont take part in the site…. only reason BS is on it is because we were asked to join it for a GvG match.

Some GvG guilds evolved from large roaming guilds they like the 20v20 and 15v15 others evolved from small roaming guilds 5v5, 10v10 for those guilds the 15v15 that the larger guilds demand for rated matches is hard to fill. Still rated matches happen but its a small bit of the GvGs happening.

I think ANet is focusing a little to much on the idea of making GW2 an e-sport, in which the viewer is central and not the player.

Personally i dont think GW2 is anywhere near e-sport material yet. Its not very balanced and honestly not very watchable either.
They should focus more on the game experience for the players. Wouldnt mean seeing some GvG format maps, didnt Gw1 have some 10v10 maps that involved taking a fort with 1 side defending and 1 side attacking? Sounds like fun to be honest.

I’m not glazing over anything, the point is, I personally (and those who didn’t play GW1) just do not accept this “measuring stick” as something meaningful. All this “certified, franchise tag carrying sequel” talk doesn’t hold water for me either.

Well sure, there’s a certain ignorance there but that’s why I’m trying to make you understand why bringing up GvG at all is going to immediatly warrant GW1 comparisons. You can spit in the face of GW1 fans all you want but it won’t change anything.

So when those GW1 fans are throwing rocks at GW2 fans and bashing them with “measuring stick” – that’s OK. But when GW2 fans are saying they don’t care, that’s somehow “spitting in the face”? What’s wrong with this picture?

Jeez, just get over it.

I don’t have a go at GW1. It may be/have been best game ever. Most probably it was. I. just. don’t. care.

Too much that is. Since I may even take a closer look at GW1 some day, I’ve bought it anyway a while ago to get familiar with the great legacy, but got immediate anaphylaxis caused by game physics.

LoL. I think what’s wrong with this picture is exactly what you stated.. you don’t care. I played GW1 extensively so I have a fine appreciation for the GW1 GvG format(currently, Arenanet doesn’t even know what made it good, either they had an amazing first development team or it was dumb luck) and as a consequence I can really see where GW1 fans are coming from when they laugh off GW2 GvG. It’s just one of those things.

The problem with the ancient GvG mode is that it won’t work with the new game mechanics, for the old gvg style you need the monks with the massive heal, in GW2 there is no class which can outheal those massive Damage, so you need for a proper GvG with good fights, at least 15 to 20 people (not more than 20 be cause of solo skill of every person should be needed for this) I’m GW1 vet too so I know the old GvG and I would really like that they implement sth like this but it should be improved that the new game mechanic will work for this.

I think if it’s a combination of WvW and sPvP, everyone has same chance for having the same EQ, and in a 20 vs 20 (15 vs 15) you have to siege a “keep” (Guild hall) and kill the enemy Lord, Lord should have the strength between the SM Lord and a Keep Lord. Walls and Gate shouldn’t be to strong but not to weak.

Why is it that it’s always the “WvW GvG” guys that get challenged to do sPvP? Why don’t the sPvP guys try to do GvG?

It’s due to time/logistical reasons.

For a gvg player to jump into spvp and have a character ready takes about five minutes. It takes rather more time for someone who spends all their time in pvp, to ramp a character to 80 and gear up.

I like how this was moved to the WvW forums despite ANet’s previous claims that GvG (or “organised battles”) wasn’t WvW.

A good 20 gvg group can also kill a 50+ zerg.
They use the same tactics and builds.

A 15< gvg group runs SPVP builds (1vs1)
And do a different kind of tactic: they target focus 1 player.. untill he is down .. then the next etc..

So 2 completly different games.

I guess you mean roaming group. Please stop putting the term GvG everywhere. Thats kind of annoying and it seems like you need to give everything a pseudoelitistic name.
Noone in his right state of mind would roam with 10 men vs Zergs with a real and specialized 1v1 build. Also they wont focus 1 player. Bursters do that like thieves or S/D eles. They will focus AoE on the called targets position, because in this game AoE is boss.
Roaming as we do with 3-10 ppl we are mostly outnumbered 2-3:1 and focussing down 20 targets one by one as we get spammed with AoE would be really superstup1d.

Kiting a Zerg and killing overextenders is on a whole different paper.

Also saying that SPvP build are 1v1 builds is ridiculous and just shows the understanding you have about the thing you are trying to sound smart at.

Please give me 10 faces to palm.

No i mean gvg.
Our 20+ guild is known about being a good zerg destroyer. (so not by siege but rolling over them).
But a few weeks ago whe only ran like 15 and fought a guilds specialised in doing 15 man combat and 10-15 man gvg. They wiped us.
They just kited our melee train.. picking off players 1 by 1.. Players inside the melee train got focussed boon stripped and cced and killed when they got behind the melee train.

So instead of having builds that makes eachother stronger/harder to kill when staying in a ball they had solo kinda builds , so they could spread out.. giving our melee train no real targets to hit.

Also if you watch gvg videos of good guilds . Doing a 10 vs 10 and a 20 vs 20 you will see a complete different game. 1 uses a melee train and regroups to heal/buff up and in a 10 vs 10 you will see much more spread out scrimmages

This is called roaming, kiting and roaming builds. Everyone is selfsufficient but you still go for group synergy. Its just a different kind of it.
The theorycrafting behind this is far beyond any of those mystic GvG strategies because it needs way more detail and experience on the field.
You actually need to be able to play your class asides of your commander shouting what AoE to cast at what given time.
Yet any ball of PVTers should be able to survive and or/decimate roamers by ballig up. Maybe you should improve your PVT ball or stick to “rolling over zergs”.

/SPvP builds everywhere… destroying zergdestroyers

Why do we have WvW threads in the sPvP forum?

Because it’s not a WvW thread? The concept of a GvG arena goes back to GW1 where it was 8v8, not 20v20. That has a lot more in common with sPvP than it does with GvG, but there are a bunch of people in GW2 who started calling guild zergs fighting each other in PvE equipment GvG with no recognition that the name is used for something else in this franchise. Now you have people discussing two different things as if they are the same thing.

As far as sPvP players going to WvW… sPvP players don’t play with food buffs (it’s kittened how much condition duration reduction you can get – that kitten is outright broken and would never get into sPvP) and the level of ascended gear available in PvP pushes stats (and stat combinations) beyond the point of balance. I wouldn’t mind betting most of the better sPvP players don’t even have a decked out PvE toon to bring into WvW (let alone one that can adjust its build to the current meta). Everyone can play in sPvP on an equal playing field in an arena designed for balance (WvW has no serious considerations for balance – even Devon even said so) without worrying about a zerg coming along to stomp them.

You wanna complain about sPvP players in a WvW forum? Blame the mod that dragged an sPvP thread over here to do it.

I like it when people bring up stuff like:
‘’Oh gw2 gvg is just mindless running around and spamming 1’’
or
‘’GvG in GW1 was 8v8 so stop asking for 20v20 gvg’’

Yes it was 8v8, good job on your research, now shall we look at what numbers people can group up in wvw and pve? Right, 10x more than what was possible in gw1. GW2 is a whole other game. Comparing stuff of gw1 is almost useless, since almost EVERYTHING is different.

And 20v20 gvg in gw2 is brainless? Like, for real? I would love, just LOVE, to see any of these pro tpvp people join in a gvg as mesmer, elementalist or any backline and do their job perfectly. Cuz hey, its just running about right? Spam 1-10 and hope you kill someone.
Yup, a lot guilds made it hard for us as RG back then by doing that. Really hard.
