Heya, nice video! Keep them coming.
I recently registered my guild for Gw2gvg but it’s been several days and I’ve yet been confirmed. Any help?
Oh hell.. guess the chap thats running it is on vacation or something, I hope. Im not really in contact with him
We rly need it up and running :/
Don’t worry, I’m here
I check for new registrations every 24-48 hours, so it could take up to 2 days.
Great video again Ogre, I’ll send you a private message in a bit.
Great video as always, Ogre. Entertaining as kitten!
Didn’t expect the GvG between GH and DsD to be close.
Atm gw2gvg.com is not accurate enough to show the real power of a guild
but “GvG SHOWDOWN” kinda help guilds to be up to date and shows that there are still underrated guilds you shouldn’t underestimate.
You and MartyPartys bring so much attention to the GvG scene. Hope you will keep up the good work.
P.S. : I preferred your old voice/mic :P
When you talked about VII fighting with one arm and one leg all I could think of was this for the rest of the fight; http://youtu.be/zKhEw7nD9C4?t=1m29s
Awesome update as usual good sir
Nice vid will you be including lower ranking teams to the showdown. Vids ??? Would be nice to see more smaller and unknown teams that also play very hard
Nice vids keep pushing GVG s all the best
Perhapse some recommendations, make this a weekly thing so once a week just having a recap of all the GvG’s with scores during that week and picking one fight in each GvG and playing that out. Then talk about changes in ranking in the gw2gvg.com site etc.
If you want to release public videos, I suggest you curse less and focus on actual things. I didnt feel very enjoyed hearing how someone is a kittening noob because he didnt clean conditions, or how jesus something happened.
Nice vid once again!
I like how you put NS on the map there, they def deserve it. Showing a resurgence of the GvG scene on NA in the lower “tiers” hopefully this time its here to stay.
@KinkyWarrior: then you basically read my mind :P
@icey: definetly featuring more unknowns in the future
@Datsuni: would you believe i censored like 50% of the kittens i actually said? Im terribly foul mouthed, and concious mainstream would resist me in this state. This isnt even my final form yet tho, id say.
nice vid, I also agree that gw2gvg is not truly accurate…
Also atm we are having trouble finding a guild willing to do a GvG
KEEP IT UP OGRO
I still find it hilarious that this is called GvG
I still find it hilarious that this is called GvG
For someone with GW1 background, sure that must sound weird. For those who didn’t play GW1, there’s no problem, it fits quite well.
Pesonally, I find GvG term even less fitting for corresponding GW1 activity than for what we call GvG in GW2. But that’s just me.
We already have GvG its called wvw you know who is number 1-10 the guilds on blackgate. Why you would want to take the strategy out of combat I have no idea, but to each there own.

As a long time member of Blackgate this is very flattering but there are a lot of great guilds on all servers. There is just a different meta in Tier 1 then the lower tiers, this doesn’t mean any individual guilds are less good. Servers like Blackgate and SoR do well because of 24/7 coverage and team work between these time zones not because our guilds are better then other servers.

If you find it less fitting for GW1 GvG you are sadly misinformed. In GW2 it is simply a deathmatch with no counterplay, just fotm spamming.

Nice Video
I enjoy it better when you don’t use offensive language.
Other than that,
Good Job

I fail to see how particular mode of the match, be it TDM or CTF, makes setup more “GvG” title worthy or less. For me it is irrelevant to the term.

Well, most importantly, GW1 had actual GvG with Guild vs Guild tournaments, hundreds of guilds participating, Guild Halls, and hundreds of builds and well known strategies strictly for GvG.
If nothing else, I feel it’s a huge insult to the hundreds (thousands?) of players who ran real Guild vs Guild.

I understand you are apparently too emotionally attached to the term for objective discussion.
For me game mode that is worthy of the title would be something that allowed a guild to dispatch most of its forces to the same battlefield and would require strategic and tactical cooperation across the whole guild. So anyone taking part in this activity would feel like they are actually fighting right here and now for the guild, as part of the guild and with the guild.
Nether GW1 nor GW2 quite qualify for that, but in my opinion GW2 unofficial “GvG” thing comes closer purely due to numbers involved in each fight. Though it lacks structure, side objectives and complex evolution of competition over time.
I don’t have huge experience with different MMOs but the one I was playing before GW2 came pretty close to it with weekly battles for “resource islands” owned by guilds on a map that had 24 players limit per team per island and number of objectives that each team was either defending or capturing depending on wether guild is attacking another guild’s island or defending their own. It also usually required to dispatch at least two raids to different islands simultaneously. And wasn’t really limited in the number of raids you can dispatch, your guild capacity and resources was the only limit.
And man if it was exciting, strategically deep and addictive. It made guild competitions so much distinct and tense, at the same time making guilds’ strength and cohesion as a whole so much important.
Thats actual GvG. 8vs8? Sorry, no.

Sorry, but no, you’re still incorrect.
Did you create GvG? No. Arenanet did. For what? 8v8 in Guild Wars 1.
/argumentover
And just to clear up confusion, here is the correct GvG ladder
That’s exactly what I mean when I say you are emotionally attached to the term. I don’t really care how anything was/is called in GW1. Furthermore, GW2 “GvG” is unofficial, both the term and game mode. It is not some specific name that would be hard to come up with, just a generic term. When one guild fight another guild, how would you call it?
It’s like SC fan would come here and start saying that he’s offended by the use of “zerg” term in MMOs. “It’s not a huge group of players, it is an alien race ffs!”
Did you create zerg? No. Blizzard did. For what? For SC series.
P.S. Oh my, Achilles – looks like I’ve found a new pet peeve for you:

That’s an outrage!

Back to the topic at hand. Take your argument to PM’s.
Thanks for that GvG website. I have it bookmarked. The videos were solid too.
So now we’re calling zerging on voice gvg?
Great video editing but sadly zerging is as boring as ever.

this
8 man guild is kind of small
Now I don’t want to start the discussion again, but both are called GvG. In guild wars 1 this was 8 people, in guild wars 2 it is 20 people.
Now personally I’m with Yaro that 8vs8 can’t be considered GvG as 8 people is only a small percentage of a guild. While 20 people can be the active part of a guild.
For both formats there is demand and although you said there was more demand for Guild wars 1 GvG, I can tell you there is more demand for gw2 GvG.
In guild wars 1 there were 319 guilds of 8 players = 2552 players.
In guild wars 2 there are currently 179 accounts requested on gw2gvg.com. On average gvgs are 20 people = 3580 players.
Now this doesn’t mean the one format is better or more fun than the other, for both is demand and both are fun.
Calling something zerging or w/e without understanding how the game mode works is ignorant.

lmao. That is the worst possible example of statistics. 2007-2010 there were over 1000 guilds on the ladder for GW1 GvG. Also, just because 8 people played for a guild in one match does not mean that was the guild’s size nor the number of core players for that guild. 319 guilds? That’s how many there are in the post-GW2 launch ladder. Don’t confuse the numbers of a game that’s fallen from it’s prime with a game that’s supposed to be peaking.
That’s exactly what’s wrong with the mentality behind “GW2 GvG.” You people seem to think it can’t be counted as true Guild vs Guild unless you can zerg it. Aha

What you say about that only 8 could play at the same time, the same goes for the 20 in the gw2 gvg scene.
As I said, neither of the formats is better than the other, there are just people that prefer the one over the other.
A discussion about this is pointless anyway, as you said GW1 has fallen from it’s prime and GW2 is peaking.
I was only wanting to let you know that with the thousands of people doing GvG’s there actually is demand for the gw2 gvg scene with the statistics at this moment. This is with you liking, you not liking, you calling it zerging or w/e, there still is demand.

Yeah, that was kinda off, but I didn’t rush to correct Marty leaving the pleasure to you.
What you still fail to grasp is that there’s no “true” GvG as the term is too generic. It doesn’t reflect any characteristics other that one guild competing with other guild(s).
There was some serious schooling in this thread, I approve. Btw pretty lame VM is pulling a no-show on Scnd atm, was very hyped :/

I am not going to dispute gw1 gvg vs gw2, different beasts and its just a naming convention.
However in the first 2 years of GW1 the guild ladder had 10,000 guilds ranked and probably another 10k unranked. So think more like 150k+ gvg players in GW1. The demand for it in GW1 trumps that in GW2 by a staggering number that comparing the activity of the 2 game formats kind of amused me. The 300 guilds or whatever is the number of guilds active now, 8 years after the launch of GW1. We will see where GW2 gvg stands in 8 years :P
Having said that GW2 gvg is fun so no complaints there. Before someone jumps on me for what I said, I call the it GvG in GW2 as well cause it is a guild vs guild, different game mode but the naming makes sense. But I couldnt help and point out the false statistic here, nobody can deny GW1 GvG was a lot more popular than GW2 GvG, the comparison is moot.
(edited by Jackie.1829)
Lol VotF steps into the argument.
They were arguing over the semantics of naming conventions and it was a waste of time. Hell yes they were different. The statistics Marty used did not help him make his case. Jackie’s stats are close enough to reality. The longevity of GW2? Yeah, that is a big unknown…
it was a waste of time
As if all MMOs and their forums aren’t.
But I beg to differ! I had fun. Some. I guess…
D’aww, now I’m bored again
Ogro.1750There was some serious schooling in this thread, I approve. Btw pretty lame VM is pulling a no-show on Scnd atm, was very hyped :/
Nah they had a valid reason, lacking some of their main core members, so we just did organised fights instead we can provide footage if you want something for the show, Noobspeed should have it. Albeit he’s worst guardian EU.
Btw great initiative with this man, really good ideas/presentation of the show itself! Keep it up.

Until/if arenanet comes up with its own terms, the gw2 gvg community will set the standards on what defines gvg in gw2. Saying that a 10vs10/15vs15/20vs20 in gw2 isnt a true gvg based on a totally different game (which is what gw1 is…a totally different game with a totally different engine….it was built from the ground up to be a pvp type game), is a saying that should be dismissed.
Orgo…good stuff sir! I’ll continue to watch future episodes and I hope that this catches arenanets eye on something that should really exist in gw2. Gvg arenas and tournament brackets.
Just call GvG in Gw2 “Nancy” and be done with it:
“Fancy a bit of Nancy?”
“Those Nancy boys are at it again near the windmill”
…. the possibilities are endless
Anyone remember The Last Pride, War Machine, Esoteric Warriors etc…?
I found this video if anyone wonders what GvG was like in GW1.
Eternum Pariah were running a dual ranger spike and if they spike perfect you only have 0.5 seconds to save the target. The Last Pride run a far more balanced setup and a full team attack would probably have lost them the match because EP would have been able to spike with the full team. EvIL very skilfully splits and manage to strangle EP into their Lord room. The beginning of the golden era of GW1 GvG.

I endorse this post. Too funny :P
It’s also a bit funny to be arguing over semantics too don’t ya think?
I’m not sure if I will be comfortable talking about GvG landscape and having GvG with another guild anymore if this comes through.

Great show Ogre!!! Can’t really understand why nobody have thought of this before!
Really looking forward to episode 3!

Seconded. Keep it up with the show, Ogro! Your commentary on the game is amusing at times!
One suggestion: If you have played little to no other classes, you gonna need some more experienced players to comment in them if the PoV is a necromancer’s or elementalist’s per se so to spot any mistakes or good moves.
Saying f* every 2 seconds makes the comments not understandable.
By the way I hope they will give a place for large scale deathmatch seomday because GvG is messing with WvW population balance.
I guess we’ll have to endure. Dont go all tsundere on me Yaro :P
What are you talking about, I was defending OUR RIGHTS while keeping topic up and hot!!!
:)
On a serious note though, amount of the off-topic and not much else is a sign that your showdowns, though great and entertaining to watch, do not provoke much of follow-up discussion. Something to think about for the show going forward.
Btw I didn’t get your “tsundere” reference. Is that a good thing or bad?
