If the rewards for killing enemy players were good enough that slaying an enemy zerg (lets approximate 25 people) provides better loot than PVdooring we might actually see people fighting each other.

We’d get zergs hunting eachother. That would be fun.

We do this already, we’ve had a enemy zerg of 80+ run and cower behind a tower filled with ACs from a zerg of probably 50, max.

But today this is a daily occurrence, why die when you can run away and attack an undefended tower from the other enemy or another map.

This is why the entire mechanics behind WvW must change if they want to save it.

I agree that a player should drop greater loot in WvW than everything but a champion in theory.

The problem is that you kill a whole lot more players than you do guards, lords etc in any populated server. So would that lead to a huge gear inflation?

The only real answer would be to make each player drop loot as if they were either a guard, veteran or lord depending on their rank upon dead BUT ONLY once every X minutes. (Much like an RI timer but only for loot).

I don’t know though. Many people saying players will basically farm each other for kills. Then why are we in WvW at all? I thought we were there for our servers. However, at the same time, since I can make WAY better coin in PvE, there needs to be some increase/improvement in the rewards in WvW. Honestly, it is truly disheartening to get a barb after battling another player for any length of time. I should get more for that than I would for getting out my pickaxe and harvesting mithril!!!!!

Hundreds of bags. Befor one of 8 bags droped, now 1 of 20.
They often change the loot without announcements. If anybody remember the times befor wvw ranks… If you got 2 rare on the same week everybody called you cheater. Now 1 exo and 3-4 rares a day

In the 3-4 hours that I play the game, i could make 30+ gold in PvE.

Rares would have to drop like barbs to match that kind of coin.

Increasing player loot by large amounts would lead to players exploiting it. In fact you just need multiple accounts to do it and no need of other players. A way to prevent this exploit: each player should have a 10-15 minute timer after you’re dead. You won’t give any loot if you are killed again within this 10 -15 minute timer.

I do not think the NPC loot (guards, lords) on normal WvWvW maps are a problem. Even if you exploit the 3 minute respawn timer and keep on killing the keep guards, archers and scouts over and over again, you won’t get much loot compared to EotM or pve farming.

I am for slightly increasing both the NPC and player rewards on normal WvWvW maps to make the rewards equal to EotM karma train. They should adjust the loot tables, less broken chips and fang and other junk items, more useful items like green or blue item drops of any level (you can at least salvage them for materials, and also get the needed t2-t4 materials for ascended). Sadly the WXP chest rewards cannot be increased as EotM is giving them at all rapid speed. For those players, who don’t play EotM, the WXP rank chest rewards are pitiful. The drop rate of ascended accessories seems to be roughly 1 per 300 chests or so and exotic drops happen once in a blue moon from the rank chests as well.

I was under the impression that this is how it works in WvW now. I pretty sure I read somewhere that the longer a player stayed alive the better the quality of loots they give when they die. Spikes would be from players that have just die, I guess. One time I had a chest drop from a player, never happened again, and there was just junk in it.

There is something similar already in game. The longer you are alive the better WXP you give when killed. If only WXP was worth anything after a certain point…

Anyway, the code is already implemented. Just add loot level counter to it.

+1 on increasing drops from player kills. If the concern is players exploiting this and allowing people to be kill them, then apply a diminishing returns like is done for wxp. As far as EoTM, I lean the other direction, the Borderlands need to be brought up to EoTM level, not the other way around. Good hunting!

I agree, the loot drops should be improved. I also agree that they should be merit/performance based as well – or at least have that factored in.

1) Start with the standard loot table.
2) Modify the drop rates on rarer items based on:
——-A) How much damage you contributed to the kill.
——-B) Did you execute and complete a finisher on the downed player?
——-C) How many prior kills do you have since last being downed?
——-D) How many kills did the downed player have?

I think your first kill since being downed (or joining a map) should have the standard drop rates, maybe even a lesser chance of a blue or higher item. But as you progress through the match, the drop rates shift toward blue and higher items.

Basically, provide incentive for players to actually play well and participate correctly within their squad/zerg.

Whether they do something or not, EVERYTHING in the game is farmable in some way or another. There’s simply no way for ANet to prevent that from happening. Because of that, I think the farming argument is completely invalid.

Alternatively, I think that there should be a reward system introduced for players that focus more on buffing and healing their squad than getting kills. These players have a direct impact on the survivability of their team and should be rewarded accordingly, even if they aren’t getting kills or dishing out massive DPS directly.

I play staff ele and because I mainly stick to water atonement for the water fields, I barely get any loot, whilst the rest of the group get tonnes and tonnes of loot bags!

It’s an unfair system which has helped to create a zerg full of warriors and guardians! And this play style is ruining WvW

As someone who spends most of their time solo roaming and scouting, getting boh for building siege is a nightmare… I keep having to take week holidays in eotm. Funny how the people who would benefit the most from boh seem to get them least in drops.

I understand that WvW will never be comparable to PvE in terms of loot. If you are loot-driven then it is safe to say that WvW is not for you.
Nonetheless, I would not mind to get more rewards from an actual PK rather than capping a tower…
How to do it?
Not easy, but I like the suggestion of increasing coin drops for WvW rank chests 1390+
It is also quite odd that, loot-wise, EotM train is way more rewarding than the actual WvW…
Also, please give us some better/new ways to spend Badge of Honor.

I just completed crafting yet another character with full ascended set (around 1000 gold cost, armor materials are kitten costly), 10k badges still left after buying tons of badges. I don’t do dungeon farm, I haven’t done a single achievement point of Living Story 2 and I seriously dislike EotM, but solo roaming and scouting vs SFR… that is where the loot is! I made around 1000 gold / 2 months, just few hours per day. Even Vizunah Square never gave this good loot!

Yeh… that’s because it is much more difficult to kill someone from SFR so the loot reflects that… killing Deso just gives you lots of spikes and if you are lucky a glob of globby gloop.

This I think is a terrible idea, it just turns WvW into more of a zergfest then it already is. It encourages the whole zerging mentality and becomes more akin to PvE. It just provides more incentive for people to roll around in zergs knowing the reward gap is so much more higher in a zerg then in small groups.

It also doesn’t encourage people to fight each other either. Zergs are mostly all about the bigger zerg winning. Why would a smaller zerg risk dieing to a bigger zerg when it can just cap towers and keeps and get more rewards. A smaller numbered zerg is always going to avoid the bigger zerg, no matter what the rewards are. A bigger zerg is always going to want to engage the smaller zerg, higher rewards don’t change that.

Overall better loot doesn’t change anything, aside from encouraging the zerging mentality, and probably more people moving over to EoTM from WvW, where the zerging mentality and the whole small zerg avoids large zerg is much more prevalent.

WvW is supposed to be a form of player vs player combat, not an additional form of PvE. Unfortunately however, the way WvW is right now makes it a form of PvE.

Still like the idea of increasing the loot from player kills. The fight itself is the fun part but the bags are an extra treat which is why I would even go with adjusting the potential drops there. Make them more like EoTM champ bags that have a chance for coin, crafting materials, gear and some other randoms. If that’s out, up the value of the spikes or other junk loot from the player kills in the least. Risk=reward, players tend to be more difficult to fight then most NPCs, they should pay better. And WvW isn’t cheap if you buying siege and paying for upgrades.

Don’t let me down Anet. I know you are going to portalbomb us all with some fabulous use for the spikes. After all, you enhanced the GUI for spikes in the September release pack.

I can’t wait to see what team Anet has in store for us!

P.S. Yes, WvW is pricey. Some increased incentive basis would be much appreciated. Unfourtunatly, the soup and structure upgrades don’t grow on trees in the Mists.
