Need help picking an EU server
Start with the recruitment section of these forums. Truthfully, everyone is going to say their server is the best, only you know what you’re looking for in a server. So check out their recruitment threads and most (if not all) have a server website that you can scan to find out more about the communities. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/recruitment
everyone is going to say their server is the best
I’d say, choose a server which is likely to be matched against servers which you’d like
to play with.
Most small scale groups and solo roamers on upper tier servers are probably found on Gandara and Kodash. Both servers are very likely to be matched against Desolation, Riverside and SFR (T1 to T3 for a more generic reference). SFR has the strongest night and morning shifts in EU, followed by Desolation. If you plan on playing during EU offtimes (i.e. after ~23 GMT until ~14 GMT), you’d probably want to join a server which is likely to be paired with one of the two to get some action, because this is when most other servers don’t field many players you could fight.
I don’t know if it is true, but anything below T4 is said to aestivate atm, so I guess you wont be too happy there if you aren’t only playing during EU prime time.
A landing you can walk away from just wasn’t fast enough.
Join t1 server. Why? Because there are always ppl there to play. Deso and SFR are good choices now.
No server has perfect coverage. Desolation is the strongest EU server at night. SFR has the strongest morning and day presence. Kodash has strong prime time till midnight.
Gandara and Kodash are often advertised as the best roaming servers. In my opinion both have some really good roamers from prominent roaming guilds like [BUKA] (Kodash) and [TCHU], but the majority is just like every other server has: tons of easy condi builds (e.g. perplexity), P/D thief, D/P perma stealth thieves, zerker LB rangers. PU mesmer etc. I could them all in the category of trolling builds. You rarely meet players with skill running a non-trolling build.
Desolation has the reputation of being the best PuG/militia server and #1 pve and #1 spvp/tpvp server (if that matters). We are still that, but our guild roster has gotten stronger. Golden Horde [GH] is one of the strongest guilds in the game. Small, but tough. Illusive Promise [iPro] moved from Elona Reach to Desolation. And the latest guild to transfer to Desolation is Insidious Blink [Ink] from Gunnar’s Hold. Gods of Desolation [GODS] has also grown stronger and I rank them as one of the best guilds in this game. Tenacious Few [TF] is another good Desolation guild. All guilds co-operate and communicate on server wide TS.
I know the flames are coming and somebody will blame Desolation for blobbing. Every top server blobs sometimes. Our biggest blobbing commander, Ins, moved to SFR already several weeks ago, so if you want play in a big blob, just transfer there. I am happy with the amount of loot bags we get playing here.
Desolation has players from all over the world. We got British, Russians, Finns, Germans, French, North Americans, you name it… We don’t have much any queues even on prime time, so the server is far from being full.
Vabbi has the reputation of being the best PuG/militia server

Just choose Vabbi. It it the best server.
Thanks alot for the replies guys, made things alot more clear. Think i’ll pick either kodash or desolation, will discuss it one more time with my friend
Wellz; not that we’ve been there in a while, but roaming always is and was best in Silver imo, since we got pushed up by bandwagon free transfers roaming has been awful.
The amount of condi running around here is awful, and I’ve taken to hauling around Stealth traps just for that one Kodash thief who spends years contesting our Keep and is reportedly paid mucho gold to do so, not to mention the Deso gank and emote spam squads, because roaming 10 man is fun
Anyway silver is the way to go, the only thing keeping me as a roamer here is some form of loyalty to Gandara, that and I have 200 something Gold trophy finishers left saved especially for Deso. Although I won’t go in depth into calling them out as a wretched hive of scum and villainy, because with what I’ve written already I will be sporadically bold-texted into the ground about how Deso is the best thing since sliced bread by Deniara. In any case there is no server I, and many others, hate more. Their reputation is anything but ‘the best puglicious server’.

Come to Gandara, it’s a roamer’s paradise: you get to fight a lot of 1v8s and, should you ever encounter a solo player willing to engage in a 1v1, it’s only because they can see ten green dots otw to help them. Oh and of course the corpse-jumping afterwards, which appears to be an SFR forte.
There are no fights in gold. Blobs, yes, and the endless sea of guys spamming AC fire from towers. But not fights. Deniara’s post was comedy gold, though.

Well it’s always hilarious when solo roamer get zerged down. It’s 100% sure that he use some lame 1 vs 1 spec so he doesn’t really deserve any kind of respect.

In other words, its exactly like silver except the blobs there are maybe a bit smaller non-primetime. Especially notable are the times when the arrowcart-to-player ratio exceed 1:1 (and the server defending still wont come out of the keep). So yep, pretty much the same.
I moved from Gunnars Hold some months after launch to Deso, and have been here ever since. It has been an amazing ride of ups and downs, some amazing victiories when all seemed lost. And some great characters that have come and gone. You can find whatever type of fight you are looking for on any of the maps.
I’d rather stop playing than go anywhere else.

Running in a desoblob is pretty close to having stopped playing.
~ There is no balance team. ~
I don’t play peak times, and only Borderland maps unless it is truly dead there,so i hardly even see a blob, and do not enjoy being part of one. Like I said, you can find whatever fight you are looking for on Deso, large or small scale.

Actually there are small and large scale fights to be found and I’ve found some nice little spots where players have been dueling outside the OS, but atm you have to expect alot of the action this week is going to be between Guild groups – or Deso and SFR blobs clashing.
I don’t think we have large quantities of roamers running about especially during prime time, I know because I often run about on my own, but even then it’s usually up against larger numbers of roamers, do not play the victim card that you get chased by mobs of players from Desolation; so do we.
Plays completely opposite professions to his main Teef.

You can also come join Deso and help add more salt to the axe wounds that some players clearly seem to have in large degree.

I can’t + 1 that enough!
Btw, I would say Aurora Glade is the best puglicious server since we actually have a guild called puglicious

I would say come to Gandara and enjoy some smallscale, but then that would mean taking away actual people for me to fight.
Go with Desolation. They need more off-peak roamers.
Gandara
If you are going to be running solo or in a pair I can’t see the server mattering there are always going to be fights to be had and blobs to run away from in gold league all the way down to bronze. The average quality of players is the same up and down the leagues, most players on a WvW map are competent and the 100s in that bracket are going to drown out the fact that server A in at the bottom of Gold league has 3 awesome roamers to fight where as server C in mid-Silver has 4.
If you are thinking of re-forming a small group to roam with in Gold League I’d be looking for a server that will match up regularly with Gandara, Kodash, Riverside and Augury Rock, Kodash and Gandara especially. Its rather funny that after 2 years of Germans being accused of only blobbing pretty much all the EU roaming guilds outside of Gandara are on German servers.
is’nt that the reason tho, to avoid facing the mindnumbingly boring playstyle that are “the German way”, is to join the server and instead get to fight other guilds and not blobs on the enemy servers?
Go EotM. Much better roamers there.

I second that. Keep in mind though, that Map-(and Community-TS)-Language on the German servers is nearly solely German (big surprise). While nearly every German player will understand English, reading the mapchat or even listening to the community TS might become problematic if you are not fluent in German.

I can only speak for Kodash, but we had a vibrant smallscale-community pretty much since release. ;-)
Mondsucht [MS] – Kodash
Hello,
first of all, i have to say that i only played on Kodash so i cant really tell about other servers.
Kodash is overpopulated roamingwise. VERY overpopulated. My guild (running 1-5 players) has trouble to find any roaming fights these days. And if so, there is a big chance of other Kodashies attacking the enemies, which makes an outnumbered fight (in the beginning) very boring, as it just turns to a steamroll.
No offense, many players just get bored and want to fight something i guess.
All in all i wouldn´t recommend going on Kodash anymore, it should be much more entertaining to play against them.
My guild is now thinking of leaving Kodash to play against Kodash more often, so we would have more fights.
So please tell us about the situation on your new EU-Server

Why would you leave when Kodash is rank 3 and will fight Gandara and Desolation very often. Gandara and Desolation have huge roaming population. Even SFR has a lot of roamers.

deso and sfr have no small scale roaming guilds that I can think of. I seriously can’t remember a single one in either of those servers. maybe they do exist but I’ve never seen them.

The roamers are the ones that cap camps and keeps keep with sword.
Its fun to fight Deso even do sometime frustrating on home border when Bay get attacked first by Unit then Gods come and finally GH so you have 3 big groups running trying to maneuver so they all can attack at the same time from 2-3 different directions.
@Maskaganda I think there is one SFR Guild called [Five] and maybe [PA], but both of them seem to love chasing solo roamers.
Desolation though? Perhaps we lack Roaming guilds, but then again most of us seem to ‘roam’ in mixed groups of 5-10+ anyway.
Plays completely opposite professions to his main Teef.

I’ve never seen them. or any others really. point stands that if you want to fight sfr and deso to face some small scale roaming guilds you are in for a disappointment, servers like kodash, ar and rs have alot more of those.
and you can’t "point out ignorance " when I claim it on the very post you quote. I admit it, I’m very ignorant about deso and sfrs small scale guilds. we only faced sfr for the first time this week tho, so may be we just had bad luck.

No raid guild considers fighting 20 random tags and winning as that much of an achievement, they aren’t going to be organised, they aren’t going to synergise well and a fair proportion aren’t going to be on teamspeak. What makes you think a 4 man guild group thinks any differently about fighting 4 random tags than a 20 man group would? People in guilds on TS generally make for far better fights without the need to start attacking groups that outnumber you significantly.
As for SFR roaming groups, well, we’ve played all the days this week and not seen any of em, a shame really but not something that happens against the other servers mentioned above.
Problem is “roaming groups” on SFR are usually a Guild with 15-20players. This is primetime ofc and the simple answer why is you know you will run in to enemy groups of 30-80players.

I can understand in a way, but WvW isn’t supposed to be fair or either organized, the best small scale we’ve had is Scrims with BT and DAWN this week where we’ve had a 5v5 and a 4v4 .
Not everyone is running optimal roaming gear either and many run rather frustrating builds to fight against.
