3million? I actually doubt there are more than 3 thousand playing WvW actively. Combined in NA and EU. If you count the guilds on gw2gvg.com, you would get something around 1,5k players who are interested in GvG, maybe more. That would be more than 50% of the player base, and thats why you read valid concern from them about GvGs. It isn’t a small minority anymore.

We don’t have population or really coverage imbalance in t1 NA saiyr. Since the change I think the only servers out of T1 we faced were TC and DB. We are all very high to full. So I guess its skill when we win against T1 or T2 servers right? lol

The day anet creates a place for GVG is the day that wvwvw will die you can quote me on that

Some people have a problem with me using 3mill for number of players so lets cut it in half. "GvG"ers make up less than 1% of the games population. 0.333333333% if we use the high end.

Hoping for a simple ANet response one way or the other on this, so we as players know what to expect.

GvG scene, love it or hate it, is getting larger all the time. In-game guesses are saying that probably around 80% of WvW-specific guilds are either already doing “structured” GvG or are interested in (or training for) starting it.

Orbs could stand to undo the entire GvG community in a truly ugly way, as a team getting a buff for ANY amount of time would destroy the fairness of matches.

What we would like to know is: Does ANet have a plan to allow the continuation of GvG activities along with the orb buffs? Is there any factor, unknown to us as players, that would allow GvG activities to continue despite the incoming orb buffs?

GvG and fair field fighting are what keeps a lot of us playing WvW at the moment. If those concepts get destroyed, people are going to stop playing. That’s not sensationalism, it’s just truth.

Can you please give us a tidbit, a hint, a something so we can set expectations for how this community is going to move forward as these changes come out?

They already answered.

So, in regards to GvG and openfield, I don’t see a lot of “rampant speculation” going on. If nothing else, you chose your words poorly. The complaints about this new system potentially killing the GvG scene is entirely grounded.

This forum and this topic in particular are about WvW. WvW is about sieging and controlling objectives and about open field combat. All our changes are with that totality in mind and will continue to be.

Aka: they don’t give a kitten about GvG while planning updates.

Any impact of orb’s buffs on GvG’s probably hasn’t even been considered.

Seafarer’s Rest EU – PvE/WvW – 8 × 80 chars.

That “vast majority” you’re talking about are the one-dayers who make no difference in the outcome of WvW. They show up for completion and leave. Their presence makes no difference and does not count.

If GvG is so small, why are there so many people QQing about the impact that a GvG has on the ability to earn points? The chief complaint by those against the movement is that the PPT suffers because of it. Hard to have a suffering PPT caused by “almost no one.”

Oh, so those of us that actually does stuff that effects the outcome of WvW (taking points, defending points, escorting dollies) makes no difference?
While you guys who only run around and kill other guilds in a “competition” makes a difference?

You do know that the majority of the points comes from actually holding/taking objectives around the map, right?

GvG IS small, but it still effects WvW, since it creates queues because of people that don’t actively takes part in WvW.

Lets say the limit for each side on a map is 100 players.
If 20 of those players are doing GvG, we suddenly only have 80 players able to do anything useful. And you don’t see an issue with that?

If you can’t get something done with 80 people, I don’t know what to suggest to you.
Assuming there is no queue on the map, that would suggest you have less than 100 people anyway. So are you saying, unless you have a queue on the map, you can’t do anything useful?

While I appreciate and understand there are people out there who dont want to partake in GvG and who enjoy the whole boring siege mechanic of building siege after siege after siege there are those of us out there who actually go out and create the game we enjoy and try to liven up WvW and without these types of guilds and people WvW would be a hugely boring place dominated only by large blobs and keeps that are meat-grinders due to the lack of organisation these blobs offer.

My take on this issue? I would love to see GvG areas that are not a part of the WvW maps. One person in this thread suggested Claw Island. That would be just fine by me.

It will not happen until Anet finds a way to monetize it. In the mean time, buy yourselves a private sPvP arena and learn to play Asuraball.

This.. All of this. Over and over again.

We flipped SM last night JUST because TC and DB were zerging in/around it. There was no one else on ANY map (we even looked and PvDoored half of DB/TC bl).

It’s either 100 or 0. And everything is more fun when it’s paper.

That may be true, that T1 doesn’t have population or coverage imbalance (I don’t believe it personally), so sure, maybe it comes down to relative skill in your tier, but your point has nothing to do with your original post, which claims there is some large skill gap between lower and higher tiers:

^ really dude you guys are 15th in wvw I would think being able to take out more than 2x your number your server would be higher ranked. If you can take out 2x you number why did you loose those 3 "GvG"s and there is a big diff between the players on the top and the players on the bottom if some real wvw guilds come to your server maybe you will get lucky enough to find that out for yourself.

I think everyone wants GvG. The main point here is that WvW shouldn’t be balanced around GvG. GvG needs its own cross-server arena with the ability for spectators to watch. It would definitely be more popular than PvP.

Here is the problem SOME (not all) GvG members are asking for things in game that aren’t officially supported and as such what things balanced around GvG like asking about orbs of power. Seriously we knew this was coming back it was said a long time ago probably before gvg.com even popped up. You can’t be delusional and expect Anet to do a jump through hoop for GvG’s and orbs of power.

The problem I have personally is how the GvG community brings it up now that it is ever so closer orbs coming back in game. Assuming that devs specifically Devon Carter knows anything about GvG’s.

I wouldn’t expect any dev to really care more about GvG’s than they care about Duels . Meaning they know its there and it happens but thats cool. End of story. We continue with our mission statment.

Some people want the orbs or orb effects back nobody GvGing it up popped into the thread when it was mentioned back then. So people are getting mad at Anet for not reading minds?

Disclaimer: My guild is Ranked 7th NA so I am into the scene but I am not delusional as to what Anets goal is of WvW and how they will balance it.

I have already seen people bring GvG’s into balance discussions on class forums.

Anet can you balance for – WvW,sPvP,PvE,GvG,Duels,Small-Man Roaming, Zerg v Zerg

Next stop is threads about what class are OP and UP in GvG’s its getting ridiculous

People draw that comparison for 2 reasons:

1) they think WvW is purely for siege combat – Devon even posted that WvW is for “sieging castles and keeps and open field combat
2) even numbers – the meta of WvW, as JScull’s signature so eloquently puts it “If you can’t beat them, add more numbers”, is a zerg where the bigger group typically wins the engagement. Fighting on even playing field is too hard a concept for some people to grasp.
