Q:

I am wondering a specific, but broad question. Why organize in WvW?

More to the point, if you organize.. it takes at least 30-60 minutes to organize everyone’s builds and groups. God forbid someone goes offline in the group and you need to completely restart it.

That is considerable effort, and normally PUGs are never going to do this.

Then people wonder why so many people zerg, it’s not a choice… its the way the game is designed.

Guild Wars 2 touts “cooperative gameplay” but lacks any features that makes this true. Just because you are near an ally and working towards the same goal does not mean you’re playing a cooperative game.

Look at it this way. Think of the major difference between a zerg busting guild and a zerg. Unless the enemy has number superiority the zerg busting guild can easily take on 2-3 times its numbers.

The zerg busting guild probably worked their kitten off 30-60 minutes in spawn getting their composition and builds right (also likely waiting on people in queue). Not to mention days/weeks of build theorycrafting.

Unfortunately, all it takes to counter this admirable coordination and effort are with the all so favorite gigantic blob strategy!

I’ve killed RG on multiple occasions with this strategy; it’s ridiculous that a feat of such ingenuity can be overcome with such stupidity.

Why does the commander symbol show to enemies?

Why can’t I organize my raiding party(s)?

Why is there a lack of a raidshout function?

Why is there an AOE cap limit on siege weapons?

Why can’t I see my raid on my minimap?

Why can’t I differentiate myself from other leaders?

Why can’t I place a visual waypoint?

Further..

Why can’t I call skills I’m using in chat with simple hotkeys?

Why must I open my fullscreen map to place a squad waypoint that is both hard to see and practically useless to look at?

Ultimately..

Why for such a fast paced game are the UI and organization features nearly impossible to use or non-existent both in and out of battle?

Basically no. We spend 5 mins in spawn (as do every other guild ive seen) and thats basically waiting on people to log in.
The builds and composition are largely done and dusted tbh.
99% of warrs in organised guilds are basically running shouts with hammer. Other classes might have a bit more variety but they’re providing more or less the same thing.
Composition … theres generally accepted good groups but most do it a bit differently. Most will take whats online on the day too and manage.

Join a guild and practice is the only thing required.
You dont get any practice following a commander in an 80 man group and spamming one and you’ll never learn anything. Running as a guild is initially rough. You’ll die often but it’ll pay off. Its not THAT complicated and you’ll manage if given the time.

Theres been quite a few occasions when I’ve grouped up with other guilds for a night due to low attendance or whatever and you manage despite not really being familiar with the people your playing with.

People are lazy though. They have too high an opinion of themselves. When they get wiped its because the enemy had more numbers. More often than not its because they screwed up. Pug zergs aren’t very good generally, the people in them aren’t really paying much attention and if you dont make mistakes you can beat much larger numbers.

To many game mechanics encourage people to zerg too and thats something that badly needs to be addressed. It really should have been adressed months ago

Yeah, a bit over exaggerated. This isn’t WoW where you wait for a healer for hours. Why organize? Because the top tier servers are the ones that take advantage of everything they can. They’re the ones that put in 110%. Having builds that support one another to enhance the group as a whole isn’t trivial, it’s logical, and in a sense IS cooperation. The issue at hand should be how Anet can change WvW so parties of 5-10 can provide their own role in WvW. IMO, make it bigger w/ more camps, towers, etc.

Asking why organize is a bit silly, just think

It seems like a shame that the game doesn’t do more to promote organisation. The blob is simply the natural conclusion of individuals. herd behavior. However if there were more in-game mechanics of organization its entirely possible you get an organized blob instead. Which would be a worse situation.

Whilst it appears in the rankings (at least EU) that the blobbiest servers are at the top, the thing they also have most of is coverage. The position of piken and its organised guilds who have less coverage indicates that in the overall scheme of things blobbing might not be the most optimal strategy. If piken had 24/7 guild groups they would probably be the proof that organised is always better.

What Piken lacks is the night presence, most of the day our guilds are generally making our ppt the top(not that we reallu care much about ppt). When night comes though we have no real cover, just 15(total) of us against server that can put 60+ in more than 1 border. If we had more tools it would help us more, but still it’s just the coverage isssue thats blocking us(Piken) from seeing if guild servers win over blob servers(not talking inividual fights but a weeks worth).
