im good at wvw, player skill is irrelevant to advancement only time spent increases advancement to rewards this type of mechanic is coded to only this game mode.

If you really believe all this, you don’t understand WvW very well. Bad players = loot bags. Loot bags don’t make much progress.

rewards ins spvp take 3-6 months
rewards in pve take 3 months to 1 year
rewards in wvw take 5 months – 2 years

Irrelevant.

wvw – requires no skill and an outrageous grind – having skill gives infinitesimal advantage in terms of advancement to rewards due to the severity of the grind.

Again, if you truly believe this, you don’t understand WvW. If you think it’s an outrageous and severe grind (I firmly disagree), you should find a more enjoyable way to spend your time.

The amount of wxp gain from getting bags is minimal. Real wxp is gained from karma trains with boosters. Yah im afraid I “get” wvw.

Yes anything over 1 year to obtain in an mmo in 2017 is severe, Needing to play wvw 30-40 hours per week to hit ticket cap is severe in 2017. Believe me I know, I used to play ffxi, I know what a real grind looks like.

Newflash: GW2 shipped with the mindset of doing things differently than other MMOs. So while most MMO’s may think in the time frame of 1 year max for their long term goals, GW2 does things differently.

It’s also not unhealthy for an MMO company to think in the greater than 1 year time frame for rewards. Because they want players playing for more than one year.

this game has been committed to low grind < 1 year for any rewards for its entire duration (even in gw1) of existence until the unveiling of this wvw reward system.

Please find me a quote from an ANet staff member where they said that all rewards were to be able to be completed by the average player in under 1 year.

Until then, you’ve pulled that time frame out of thin air and you can’t use it in an argument.

The only thing I recall them saying about grind was that there would be no forced grind. Please tell me how this grind is forced. Am I locked out of Eternal Battlegrounds until I have the armor?

there is no quote that I’m aware of. Yet all rewards were obtainable for the past 15 years in less than a 1 year time frame, except for this new wvw system. So we can assume this is a new trend, and a direction for the game that I’m certainly not pleased with. But yah I suppose they could make new grinds take 5-10 years if they wanted to. Dunno if thats a good idea though, certainly not how they advertised the game.

It definently wasnt advertised as a no required grind game, with Optional 2 years + grinds, because thats now what it is. They stuck with the statement that “nobody likes to grind” giving the impression that this is a low grind game, and indeed it has been all optional grinds have been within reason except for this.

I am a WvW player who collects tonics. This is one of the PVE items that is going to take me years to acquire.

The WvW skins could have been unlocked immediately for veteran WvW players from ranks/achievements or bought immediately with existing currencies (Badges of Honor or Proof of Heroics).

Instead the WvW skins are unlocked with pips that are accumulated more easily by veteran WvW players but are time gated for everyone. Pips are already the fair solution chosen by ArenaNet to acquire these items.

In the past when WvW rewards were based on active play some players would work together to game the system.

I could see players trading objective defender pips with your current suggestion.

I wouldn’t mind it if rewards were based upon active play but it requires a lot of thought to implement correctly. This is why WvW has many time based rewards.

Lower the Rank Requirement for Armor

The T2 and T3 armor can be assigned HOT stats. Does this allow non-HOT accounts to gain access to HOT stats? If this is true it is more than just a skin and I doubt the requirement for this armor will be lowered.

There is already a mechanism that corrects the current disparity in pip generation. If a new player stays active in WvW they will eventually catch up to veteran players in pip generation because it takes more ranks to progress through the higher rank tiers.

A new player gaining 2000 ranks could see +3 pip generation while a veteran could see no change.

It took 4 hours but we were able to capture the Lost Precipice with two players. Here are some tips we found:

1) Ignore maws that spawn on the edge of the map. It takes away too much time to walk to them. This will also make the next maw spawn harder since more time will be spent walking away from this location. Instead we would go to a central location to wait for the next maw spawn.

2) At the end we were continuing the mission even if we failed on a few maws in a row. Since the spawns are RNG you never know when you will get some lucky spawns. I think we had 4 failed and 3 successful maw attempts before we got 2 nice spawns to complete the mission.

As a condition elementalist I am disappointed that recharge reduction and Strength of Stone can no longer be used at the same time:

  • Geomancer’s Training: You recover 33% more quickly from chilled, cripple and immobilize. Earth abilities recharge 33% faster.
  • Strength of Stone: Gain condition damage based on 10% of your toughness attribute.

Currently all of the other Training traits are geared for Power elementalists.


  • Pyromancer’s Training: Deal 10% more damage while attuned to fire. Fire abilities have a 33% reduced recharge.
  • Aeromancer’s Training: Gain 190 precision while attuned to air. Recharge of air weapon abilities are reduced by 33%.
  • Aquamancer’s Training: Deal 10% extra damage when your health is above 90%. All water weapon skills have their recharge reduced by 33%.

I think that the Geomancy Training trait should be “Gain condition damage based on 10% of your toughness attribute. Earth abilities recharge 33% faster.” This helps out with bleed stacking especially on staff and gives condition elementalists recharge reduction trait that is useful if they want to build for damage.

Just curious to see the response here – is there any change in performance when playing in FullScreen mode? We’ve seen this issue occur mostly in “Windowed” and “FullScreen Windowed” and we’d like to see if you all experience any difference while playing in FullScreen mode.

For me it is opposite. In “FullScreen Windowed” the game plays like normal. In FullScreen mode when I look at other players and their animations it feels like I only have 5 FPS.

I also had this problem. By changing my resolution to “Windowed Fullscreen” I was able to keep my original display settings and have normal FPS.

Random Crash in WvW

I also was getting crashes in WvW in the same file and I use an ATI card. It seems that if I disable High-Res Character Textures I get crashes. If I enable High-Res Character Textures they don’t occur.

Last night I was able to finish T4 with high condition damage gear. I stayed by the spawn and used Eruption or Flame Burst + Signet of Fire to take out the plunderers.

As an elementalist I reflected the mesmer Ether Clone skill and it created a clone of myself. I was surprised the first time I saw this.
