Anet might be right about these being problems on the player end, but if they are, it’s only because of a design flaw I’ve never encountered before.

Basically, let’s assume that all of us have crappy internet connections that randomly drop packets long or lose connection long enough to get disconnected, but not long enough for us to notice anything else (I don’t lose my Skype call and Pandora keeps playing, but GW2 says dc). Maybe it’s a moment of lost packets heading to the server. If this is true, then the problem is still that Anet didn’t build in the obvious safety-net feature that so many other online games have.

It’s a wait-time before disconnect. Pretty straightforward, you don’t get disconnected for 25 seconds (I’m arbitrarily copying the number valve uses, but any time period could work) after loss of signal. Sure those of us having this problem will have some lag spikes, but considering how brief these dcs are (can instantly reconnect) it shouldn’t be too bad, and it’s certainly better than the way things stand. I quit doing WvW because getting dced from game on a server where queues can be very long was just making me angry.

Plus, implementing this would prevent a complaint people have about WvW, which is players logging out when they’re downed so they don’t die (basically, you never actually leave game for a few seconds after you dc). The only downside is limiting the ability to instantly swap characters.

is it always a zerg?

There is far more than just zerg to this game. If you want some very small scale pvp, either go out by yourself and raid the flags/dolyaks, or grab a couple friends and hit flags, dolyaks, and camps. This should get the enemy attention, and even though a zerg may come for you from time to time, often it’ll just be a couple guys running along the map who see the battle icon.

If you want a taste of siege warfare but still without the zerg, get a slightly larger group (5-10 is small enough to go unnoticed, but can carry enough supply for some equipment), build some siege weapons near a tower, and try and take it. This is usually only a good idea on maps where you’re the attacker, because attackers tend to only hold front line towers, and towers on the way out of their spawn.

Hope this helps you find some enjoyment in WvW

Oh, and if you’re annoyed by the rez distance, just make sure your party splits up when they zerg you, so someone survives and can come back to rez.
