I imagine Guild Wars 2’s infrastructure is significantly more complicated than Guild Wars 1’s. It’s real easy to point fingers, make assumptions, and be cynical.

So to, succeed in GW2, one must use a cookie cutter build/tank spec

cookie cutter build.

General stat allocation suggestions are not ‘builds’; builds are incredibly specific setups with particular traits and utilities. Poor choice of words.

SO again…not only did Anet lie when they said could play the way you wanted, they designed the game to PUNISH anyone that isn’t spec’d heavily or moderately into defensive lines.

You know what ArenaNet actually said about their system? That you can build it into anything that you want, but their system is designed to promote versatility (read: balanced stat distribution between defence and attack).

i kinda feel lied to by Anet everything i heard was that old system of trinity was gone, wouldnt be any cookie cutters and we could play way we wanted and do all the content but that

Cookie cutter =/= trinity. Also, most explorable encounters will force you to reassess your build and tailor it to that particular encounter. Is defence always the best solution? God no, far from it. People aren’t telling you that you have to spec tanky to survive, they’re telling you to spec tankier—you can’t glass cannon stuff in this game. Min-maxing is almost always a bad idea. It just sounds like you haven’t wrapped your head around the game yet. Play more, try different things out.

PVE Down-level Scaling Pains

because it kills MY immersion

Really? Immersion? You’re pulling the immersion card?

You know what’s immersion-breaking? Walking up to a bandit, coughing on him, and watching him fall over dead. It makes far more sense (realistically) for content to be relevant at all levels than it does for you to be godlike in power because… numbers.

Downscaling makes content significantly easier than it is at-level. Don’t believe me? Make an alt and go to Caledon Forest. Now take your level 80 to Caledon Forest. Tell me which is easier.

Also, if you don’t want to fight mobs, it’s simple: run by them.

I want to do WvW but don’t want to wait hours in a queue, so that’s a big minus.

Afraid there’s nothing they can do. The caps on WvW are there to make the battlefield manageably populated without ruining the experience, and keep lag relatively at-bay. Try swapping to a less crowded server or wait a couple weeks.

I want to do explorable dungeons, but don’t want to search an eternity for a party , why is there no dungeon-finder?

ArenaNet has taken the communal stance on this one. If they introduce dungeon finders, they risk destroying the sense of community (as is the case for all MMOs that introduce this feature). Seeing as how community is one of the most important things to them, I highly doubt that they’d introduce this feature.

I figure I should also mention: all the dungeons in the game exist within the world for a reason. Many of the later dungeons require you to push the world to a state where the dungeon can be opened. I imagine it’s set up that way to force dungeoneers into the world at large and keep the open world PVE populated.

I was never a fan of small-scale pvp so spvp doesn’t interest me a bit.
I was never a fan of leveling alts or professions, so that’s not content for me.

Fair enough. You’re actively choosing not to participate in fairly large aspects of the game—just know that complaining about a lack of content while choosing not to participate in two significant portions of the experience is doesn’t help your argument much.

A few things that I plan to do that you have not mentioned:
- 100% world completion
- Legendary weapons
- Scavenging for the coolest looking cosmetic armor for transmuting
- Collecting all the dyes
- Exploration achievements

Just keep in mind that your bold title of ‘endgame missing’ comes off as all sorts of ignorant when you choose not to participate in large portions of the content designed for end-game.

I mean, I don’t do end-game raiding in other games. It isn’t for me. But I know better than to run around saying that there’s nothing for me to do at max level.

Why I am not convinced about GW2

I agree with everything you said. You’ve basically summed up my general high level feelings on this game in general. The problem is, it’s really still the best of the worst.

MMO’s in general all try to be the next big thing, but in reality I feel they’re too afraid to actually be that. GW2 makes some decent steps towards this, but they’re still too conservative to leave everyone else in the dust.

I mean…it still could be with a few tweaks, but I doubt they’ll spend the time now changing things. Perhaps when people get tired of the endless button mashing and numbers level off, they’ll take a chance.

For now, as I said, it’s still the best of the worst, so I’ll put in some more hours. For me, the opportunity to play with my girlfriend is what’s keeping me entertained. If it were just me, going at it solo, I think I would have went back to Skyrim.

Sounds like you want Skyrim: The MMO. Afraid tech is really not there yet to facilitate that kind of a nuanced gameplay experience alongside hundreds of other players. That said, I’d still take Guild Wars 2 over Skyrim any day of the week.

Kodan > Tengu > Quaggan > Hylek > Skritt. That is the prioritized order on how these races should be released as playable additions to the game. :P

That said, I want a default chat filter for all Skritt players that throws in some Engrish.

This makes no sense. How can you get sick based on the FOV?

It is a very real issue. While I have zero problems with Guild Wars 2, there are quite a few games (particularly FPS games) on the market that almost make me vomit while playing them. RAGE and Skyrim were two recent releases that were sickening with their default FOV settings.

They need to make money off that shop. If 1g was worth 10,000 gems, they’d never a cent off the gem shop.

The fact that 1g is like $5 worth of gems is actually really great if you ask me. I was expecting much, much worse.

ArenaNet have always stated that you will be incentivized for doing lower level content, but more appropriate loot and better XP will always come with higher level (and, in turn, more difficult) content.

If players could do easier/faster content and walk away with the same bundle of goods as the difficult content, why would they ever do the more challenging content?

I like the waypoint cost thing though. They need to keep players from avoiding those waypoint costs.

Done the majority of them. I’ll say that Troll’s End has some of the trickiest jumps in the game.

Chaos Crystal Caverns is a close second. Maaaan. The person who designed that one is a jerk. But the best kind of jerk!

How are Dungeons meant to be played?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Actua.7521

Actua.7521

Dungeons are designed for an organized group of players. Once you get an organized group, the challenge won’t be on completing the dungeon, but clearing it efficiently. This involves pulling correctly, stacking might and other buffs, and learning the enemy attacks. If you ever played Guildwars 1, you would see that aggro control doesn’t involve using get-out-of-jail-free skills to get enemies to stop attacking you. Melee mobs are easy to kill because you can cycle snares and damage. With ranged mobs, you change tactics, pump AoE attacks, spam blind, and have your group use the projectile shield skills as you have plenty of them.

The dungeons have a Dark Souls style of play, forming random groups to try and clear it is a trial in patience since there is unlikely to be cookie cutter setups to be introduced in the game. You will fail more than a few times trying to do each dungeon.

You clearly haven’t played too many MMOs if this “balance” is the worst you’ve seen. I’m also going to say that I’ve seen quite a few people asking for even more difficult content.
