So there was a shallow promise to allow us to exchange all the junk from LS1 into something useful. Yet, one month later: nothing.
Am I right to assume that the case is closed? The merchant will never appear and we will never hear a single word again from the development team about it?

I just don’t know what to say. When I read the blog post about the Megaserver yesterday I felt excited. Today it all came down to a pile of dust.

I can understand that the current API wont cooperate with the new system. But dumping it is just bad. You wanted us to create an extended experience with your API. We did and now the hours of work are thrown away. Bold move.

But that’s not the point that cultivates a headache I never hat before because of a MMO. The fixed schedule is just horrible. Can you at least try to answer how a player with full time job and a family should be able to experience the world bosses when they are scheduled somewhere at night, midday and from 6pm to 8 pm? Are you kittening serious? How should those of us be able to participate? Why is it so kittening hard to keep the dynamic rotation so that we can jump in or not when you have the chance. Almost everyone in my guild is affected by that dumb change. It’s nonsense. It’s bullkitten. We already have lost enough members, but this change will hit our activity big time. Well done, I’m happy that today the last big change of the feature build got announced.

This decision is a bold move and a very bad one, too.

You try to force the players to play along the rules you intended but never really told. Now you change the event big time and slap us with the rule book. We needed to adapt to the event we got. It was bugged, it is often laggy and the scaling was horrible. You missed out mechanics to encourage to split up and now you change it as a whole and take every freedom out of it.

I feel treated like we are children not playing right and now you slap us to change our misbehavior. I’m sorry, I will never do it again. So please tell us in the future how we should play Guild Wars.

Regarding these changes today, I’m highly doubting that the no-loot-bug was a bug. I now think it was a quick fix to stop shoveling loot in our direction, because we acted not as suspected. It gave the developers the time to create the new restricting rules for the event while not flooding the players with gold.

What the heck did you do with the jumping puzzles this year? I did not mind the waiting time last year. Was kinda fun to snowball fight with undie wearing characters or snoring for two minutes in the waiting area when you missed the first jump. But this year it’s like a nightmarish snow globe of lag and glitches. All the stuff I noticed in one hour doing it:

  • Respawning twice, because once isn’t enough.
  • Lag spikes that instantly kill you, when you synced again (because you just run of the flake/present/path).
  • Chaotically appearing snowflakes in front of you that force you to wait and watch your health ticking down, while the one you need to jump on wont appear.
  • Rapidly exploding gifts.
  • Non exploding gifts for at least 10 secs while waiting at Trixx (and then: chain boom).
  • Two rolling snowballs right behind each other.
  • Rolling snowballs standing still all of a sudden (no lag at all, the goal area was loaded at the moment I jumped into the present).
  • Actor glitching out. I did the jumping puzzle while my character was laying on the belly. twice.
  • Wobbling around at the goal area as if the character is constantly walking on icy Lego bricks with invisible obstacles between them
  • Seriously. I noticed the clock which is ticking down from 30 minutes to zero. One might ask when? I tell you: with Trixx’ extra gift in my hands on one of the small blue gifts right before the last jump. How did I notice? I found myself at the starting area one sec later…
  • Did I mention the horrible ping?

And you removed the first time daily extra drops (or I haven’t got it because of another bug). That simply sucks.

The cronjob is up and running. It collects the data from the temple events and the dragon events (at least from the belonging events which I found on the English and German wiki). I plan to add the world boss metas and the champion metas which yield a daily bonus chest.
The problem is that I have to use the data the wikis provide. They might not be complete (as with the differences of the Lyssa meta between the German and English wiki) or correct.

The example I attached is a quick dump of the Grenth Temple Meta. Just remove the .txt file ending and watch it in browser.

It’s clearly that the events have handlers which can invoke other events. And the events seem to have a static warmup time.

Why I have to analyze this is beyond me. I don’t know why it would be so difficult to expand the event_names API with onFail and onSuccess statements and warmup times.

I want to collect data for a certain time, so that I can analyze the typical runtime of a event, the logical structure of a meta and maybe how long it takes to succeed (or fail) with a event at different times (like night, morning, evening, weekend or working days).

I don’t know how the mechanics of events or event chains work internally. Maybe the kickoff of a event is not directly connected to a former event, thus negating the chance of seeing that. But maybe the event can show its own starting conditions (dialog, event(x-y-z, failure/success), timer, …).

If it’s not possible, I agree with you rodadams, that the community has to reconstruct the metas. ATM I’m writing a cronjob that automatically collects the state of every event in the five Temple Metas (thanks to the wiki in different languages) each minute of my home server. With this data I hope to reconstruct the conditions in these metas (while Balthazar’s seems the most complicated with three pre meta events :-S ) .

Just to bring this back up.
I find it quite inconvenient that there is no connection of the text snippets of a meta event to the events which are running. There must be some connections or callbacks.

The wiki is not complete (assuming correctness in every info is also vague) and the data from the API does not deliver a single hint about how the events are connected. Even if it’s not possible to deliver data about meta events, there must be handlers that initiate other events on failure or success. If you could expand the Event API to show these events, we could easily rebuild the metas.
I assume that at the moment dozens of us are rebuilding event chains and metas with the help of the wiki without the certainty of being correct.

If it is not possible to deliver these information with the API, maybe it is possible that you programmers or designers can simply post how each meta evolves (with all possibilities). It’s not ideal, but at least you could push the API to a standard of correctness that you and us wish.
While it’s fun to explore an investigate ingame, it’s not to try to reconstruct data that is already known (by you). So please ArenaNet, pimp your API.

Seems to be a problem with a German provider. This problem was resolved before the February patch. What has changed?

Me and many guild mates of mine are suffering from huge chat lags and continuous Error 7. Often the connection is lost during the startup of the launcher or while loading a new zone. You are stuck in the loading screen forever.

It first started right after the first update on Feb 26 and continued to today.

Server: Riverside.

I wrote every ten minutes. I have to correct myself: it’s now less than three minutes.

Night Capping and YOU

Varanoths post is showing the problem.
It’s one thing to play against other European servers through the night and fighting with small groups of 10 against each other and some NPCs.
But we’re battling Vizunah for the second time now and it’s annoying to see fully upgraded forts fall during the night, because of an army of Canadians who show up on an European French server. At least for the Europeans it would help just to deny access to the WvWvW if you access the server from other regions. Let the Canadians have there own language servers in NA territory.
