I have a unique email account for only Guild Wars 2 and Battle.net that has never been used anywhere else.
On September 11, I received an advertisement to “Upgrade Your Standard Edition with Guild Wars 2 Digital Deluxe” and all the links lead to proper “guildwars2.ncsoft.com” links which redirect to “guildwars2.com.” I unsubscribed from the email list that day. Yet, on the 12th I got a duplicate “Welcome to the World of Guild Wars 2!” and today I got one titled “Discover the Social Side of Guild Wars 2.”
When I click “unsubscribe” on the footer of the email it takes me to an “Update Your Preferences” page which when I click the “How was I added?” link tells me that I “Opted In.”
This is a problem because, no, I never opted in, and there are also no options in the “My Account” area of this website (guildwars2.com) to subscribe or unsubscribe from any types of emails, yet I also know that NCSoft does not have this email in any way other than through Guild Wars 2.
Being “Opted in” by default and without any options to turn it on or off (until you receive one of the spam mails) in the account options is bogus. Judging by the date this wasn’t even done when I created my account or applied the game code, but rather right with the pre-release of the game, so I never actually had a chance to say yes or no.
I do not want spam, I have a special account specifically so I know that if something goes there, then it IS from you guys and that it is important. Spam is not important, especially spam that I did not ask for or have the chance to allow or deny.
