WARNING: WALL OF TEXT
So I’ve been participating in the “Gates of Arah” chain event today hoping to finally bring that big chicken down for good and finish “Victory or Death” once and for all.
Everything was fine until we arrived at the Control point area in “Promenade of Gods”. We killed the Champion risen and all of us tried to take the point but we ultimately failed. ( Only got like 10% on the bar)
Here are some things I’ve noticed (its kind of obvious):
- Having only one Risen in the ring ( Control point ) will stop the bar from progressing.
-Risen will spawn every few seconds inside the ring.
-Every 1 minute or so the game will spawn a wave of Risen charging down the stairs to try and stop us.
So I took up the job of something like a commander and began trying to lead the players via chat. It actually worked a little.
So here is the strategy :
When you get into the control point, kill the trash mobs protecting the Champion eye first. Then you can proceed to take they eye down. Or some of you can try and deal damage to the Eye while others kill the trash, either way works.
When you fight the eye in melee, set your basic attack on auto-attack if you haven’t already. This way you can watch the movements of the Eye much more clearly. When it curls up into a ball, dodge away immediately. When it starts twirling , dodge away too. I’m only saying these because most players that I’ve seen that goes into melee with the Eye does not seem to understand that they cannot tank.
When you engage the Eye in ranged, also set the basic attack to auto (who uses their ranged attack without it?). The Eye likes to shoot lasers every now and then to try and kill the players and it seems to fire at ranged players more often. They hurt ALOT. Thats why when you discover you are getting hit its lasers, dodge once immediately. Then wait for it to fire again before dodging once more. It fires TWICE by the way. You are still going to get hit by the lasers even if you dodge, but it is minimal.
Note: Always move around, do not stand still. Try and kill trash mobs that are harassing the melee players in combat with the eye.
Once the Eye is dead, kill the other risen still in the ring. Here is when strategy matters the most.
Some of you must become the “Blockade” move OUT of the ring and stand by the top stair entrance to stop Risen reinforcements from getting in the ring. Your only problem here are the Catapults so make sure some of you take them down. They come in either 3 directions: Left, Center or Right. Spread the “Blockade” on this three paths so you can block the Risen the moment they come down, then the rest of the “Blockade” can move to join in the killing. Try not to move into the ring again and focus just on the Risen Reinforcements, let the “Patrol Duty” deal with whats inside.
The rest of the players will be the “Patrol Duty”, you must remain IN the ring. Constantly looking around the ring to see if any Risen spawns or gets through the “Blockade” then of course, Kill them.
The best way for the patrol to work well is to have at least 3 players with high damage or knockback ability on each end of the ring. The Risen tend to spawn at the edges or sometimes the middle of the ring so make sure to act immediately the moment you see them. Pressing “Tab” key or the key to target foes every so often as you look around will aid you in finding the Risen. Focus only on what is inside and not out.
Also, when you die DON’T WAIT FOR SOMEONE TO RESS YOU. Waypoint back to the outpost below or the entrance of the dungeon and get back into the fight. It takes too long to ress a person and should be avoided unless it is necessary.
I created this only because I found that it worked a little when I tried to execute the strategy in the middle of the battle. We lost the point in the end but its mostly because we lacked sufficient players and also because it was rather unorganized.
I’m not the best GW2 player or Sun Tzu so I hope you understand if it does not work for you. This “strategy” works only when there is a large amount of players ( Which is required even without the strategy ) so getting it to work with a small amount is tough if not impossible.
Please do comment on the strategy and do some critique on it so that I may learn to be a better player. Cheers!
