Don’t suppose you saw her dialogue with Braham in Edge of the Mists, did you? They are gone now, but if you haven’t, maybe I can find a video of it somewhere.

Anyway, I’m disabled myself, though it’s milder than yours. I am an amputee. I lost my left leg below the knee while in the military during the FIRST Iraq war roughly 25 years ago. Despite that, though, as long as I haven’t had an issue come up like foliculitis (ingrown hair), or the prosthesis is wearing out or something, I’m just fine, so I’m not really handicapped often.

It DID lead me to a career as a prosthetist though, and I take great joy in helping amputees. Mostly they are geriatric diabetics, so I’m thrilled if they even get out of their wheelchairs, but recently I fitted an 11 year old girl who lost her leg due to cancer. Wow, if you could have seen the look on her face after she took her first steps… she started crying, and I had to fight not to myself.

Anyway. So yeah, I loved Taimi was in there. I’d love to see more. Maybe people with asuran or charr tech inspired prosthetics. Harnesses for helping paralyzed people walk. Etc etc. I think it wouldn’t be wise to inundate the game with such characters, but inserting one here and there, or maybe an Advanded Research Hospital with several of these patients might be really cool.

As a father of three girls your post almost made me cry.

Thank you for being a hero in Iraq, and thank you for being a hero in the office.

Aw heck, thanks for saving Tyria as well!

I recorded some frames per second values. Bear in mind that this is very unscientific (and not very thorough), but hopefully it will give an idea of what to expect.

The killing boar was done on the Queensdale train. That poor sucker didn’t stand a chance. WvW was full but the train had a good crowd of people. I also went into Lion’s Arch and ran back and forth across the Halloween crowd and even did the cauldron puzzle.

I repeated the tests while booted into Windows to compare the results.

This is on a 15" Macbook Pro Late 2013, 2.0GHz, 16G RAM, Iris Pro.

GW Mac Client

Resolution: 1680×1050

Auto detect (selected in options)
16 – 34 fps, LA Halloween
55 – 60 fps running from Ojun’s Lumbermill waypoint to boar
20 fps killing boar with crowd

Best Performance (selected in options)
45 – 55 fps in LA
83 – 111 fps running from Ojun’s Lumbermill waypoint to boar
35 – 40 fps killing boar with crowd

GW Windows Client

Resolution: 1680×1050

Auto detect (selected in options)
40 – 50 fps, LA Halloween
77 – 95 fps from Ojun’s Lumbermill waypoint to boar
20 – 30 fps killing boar with crowd

Best Performance (selected in options)
76 – 88 fps in LA
110 – 136 fps from Ojun’s Lumbermill waypoint to boar
42 – 60 fps killing boar with crowd

It’s no surprise that the Windows client performs better since the Mac client has the cider wrapper adding overhead. But even in crowds the Mac client is playable. Best Performance might not look as pretty, but it appears playable even in crowds. But if you’re already dual booting into Windows it’s the way to go.

I just got the 15" Macbook Pro without the Nvidia GT750 (I couldn’t justify the extra $400 for the higher model). It doesn’t look as nice as the Radeon 6870 in my desktop, but then the lights in my neighborhood don’t dim when I turn it on either. Mostly I’ve been running it in Windows, but I have tried it on the Mac client and it runs beautifully. I’ll try and collect some fps data for both the Mac and Windows clients when I get a free moment.

Haven’t tried it in WvW yet, but I’ve had no trouble with WvW on my Lenovo with its i5 (Intel HD 3000) so I’m not expecting any. Worse case scenario, I’ll have to turn the settings down.

Disappointed that F&F ends w/ a dungeon

I don’t get what is the point of playing mmorpg if you don’t want to play with random people. If you want to play singleplayer game there is witcher, skyrim etc. And if you want to play only with your close friend there is bunch of coop games. Noone forces you to play this game.

Skimming through 420+ messages may seem daunting, but if you do, you’ll find many answers to your question.

GW2 is designed and has been marketed as a solo-friendly game because there’s a demand for it. Witcher is a fine game, but it doesn’t have a dynamic environment, constant updates, and it’s not a living world. And solo-friendly doesn’t always mean single player. I play with random people all the time, but I rarely party up with them.

It’s difficult for those of us with families and jobs (or students with heavy workloads) to group up for a dungeon. On most days I’m not able to sit down and relax until around 10pm, and even then I can’t always commit to a group. Trust me on this, “No honey, I cannot hold the baby, for I must slay the dragon!” would not go over well in my house. Finding that window where my kids are asleep, my wife doesn’t need me (spouses need attention too!), it’s not 3am on a work night, Arah is open, and there’s a group of four available for Victory or Death, has so far eluded me and after months of trying I still haven’t finished the personal story. As for finishing F&F, I’ve resigned myself that it’s not going to happen.

GW2 is one of the best RPG games I’ve ever played and I’m not bailing on it, but their staff wants feedback, and they’re certainly getting it. A lot of us feel they’ve made the wrong decision in this case, and I’m sure they’re paying attention to this thread.
