For what it’s worth, while I didn’t do the whole sunday event (I left after a bit over an hour), practically every single bit of the weekend event (including the initial assault on LA) I did while grouped with my gf. And over the whole weekend and the course of every event I participated in, I probably got kill credit and xp less than 10 times in total. About the same for my gf.
With the way GW2 does NOT encourage grouping for DEs, I can’t imagine there were a lot of full groups running around, so even if Animus’ theory is correct (which personally I doubt, my experience towards kill credit while grouped is more in a line with Edge’s), we should have seen a lot more xp. And also, it seems very counter-intuitive to me to assume that just because you’re in a group of 5, each single member should get credit for all the damage their whole group did. That would basically multiply everyone’s kill credit by the number of group members.
But then, I’m just speculating here too. All I can say for sure is that I barely got any xp during any of the weekend DEs, apart from the completion rewards.
I’ve given up for today. Got nothing to show for a very taxing hour spent trying (“trying” being the operative word here) to do this event apart from a sizable repair bill. Game was mostly unplayable.
So if I might offer a suggestion: no more one-time-only, miss-it-and-you-wont-get-another-chance events ever again, mmkay ANet? Seriously, all the average player with an average rig and an average connection gets out of those is frustration and annoyance.
I don’t WvW much because:
(a) Takes forever to run from the spawn point to the action. Too much downtime before I get to have fun.
(b) Things are rarely balanced at the macro level. Too often we either control the entire map or we control none of the map and are penned up at our spawn point. Either way, not fun.
© Things are rarely balanced at the micro level. Either I’m part of a huge zerg and everything’s already dead before I get to it, or I’m on my own and I get hunted and killed by the first enemy to spot me.
(d) I’ve done it already. Same reason I don’t go back and replay the zones I’ve finished much – I’ve seen the content and moved on.
(e) No recognition of personal effort. I pull out my big AoEs and things die – but everyone else was doing the same thing. Was my AoE helpful? Or did I miss entirely? Am I just sitting here being useless? How would I know?
(f) Costs of being relevant are too high. I don’t want to spend my silver buffing outposts or buying siege plans when we’re just going to lose all the terrain again overnight. I have better things to do with that silver that I’ll see the benefit of personally.
(g) The map’s confusing. The shortest path from a spawn point to the action is rarely a straight line – there are cliffs and bridges and water and falling damage and gates and it’s just a pain trying to actually find the battles and take part in them.
(h) PvP players are the worst. They’re exactly the people I’d least choose to hang out with of my own accord.
Pretty much all this (thx for saving me the time to type a very similar list), with a focus on items a, f and g. The only items I’d modify are
(d) while I haven’t seen it all yet, I spent 3-4 hours in WvW so far, which was enough for me to see that while it’s got the potential to be fun, it’s not my kind of thing in its current incarnation.
(h) I’d rephrase that to “I’ve found that usually the people I’d least choose to hang out with of my own accord are found in PvP”. Slight but important difference.
Now I suddenly have this mental picture in my head of how every single character in GW2 is really bald and wearing a wig of some sort. And whenever they want to put on a hat, they take off their wig, store it somewhere about their person, and then put on the hat. And when taking off the hat, they swap back :P
But yeah, on female chars (and most male ones), that baldness thing makes the witch hat (and others) pretty much obsolete
This topic pops up on the forum of every MMO ever released. Every. Single. One. Go ahead and verify it if you want. Makes me think next time I’m gonna start this thread myself just for the laughs of it.
Me: male IRL, 8 chars. 5 male, 3 female. Why: variety, and cause it’s a game, not RL. End of explanation.
I’ve had a total of 3 drop since launch, on 7 characters. So yes, they’re rare, but they do drop every now and then. Just don’t bother farming for them.
Divinity’s Reach, same problem
