First try it out with a F2P account.

If they’re posting on the forums, they have a full base GW2 account already.

If you found the weapon system in GW2 limited, in the HoT expansion it’s still just as limited. BUT, the fights there make you work to get more out of it. It’s like that with a lot of what your character can do, actually.

HoT also brings us a secondary leveling system called “Masteries”. They fall into two groups, ones for the main game zones, and ones for the new zones. You do need to dive into them some to get through the HoT zones, and you may find some of the base game ones useful, but level 80 is still max level with or without them.

Basically, if you’re willing to invest more grind/progress time to get harder content, then HoT may be good for you. If you like to keep the game casual, then HoT is highly questionable at best.

Then I might not I’m trying to find something to last me a few months till overwatch comes out and I already feel like 50$ is expensive for an expansion on a game I felt wasn’t designed great to start with

GW2 is a very different game from GW1. You might want to start with a free to play account and see what you think.

Good advice. GW and GW2 are really very different. I personally don’t feel like the gem store is a problem for gameplay here, so I don’t feel microtransacted to death or anything. In fact, I like GW2’s approach to an in-game store a lot better than I do many other games’.

Original guild wars I meant vanilla guild wars 2 when it was released before the xpack

Oh, okay. lol Sorry. Thought you meant the other game. HoT is different from the original maps in Central Tyria. They’re more challenging in that the mobs are harder and the events are pretty large-scale on each map. They take a number of people to complete and get full rewards, and most of the time I don’t see this happening.

HoT added a raid, if you like raids, you can check that out. The classes all have new elite specializations, in other words, a new way to play each one. There’s a new class – Revenant.

Like I said, the store never really bothered me and it still doesn’t since HoT.

OK I might try it. The only thing that really bothered me with the store was they gave very limited character slots like 5 or something I think and they made you pay to play on other servers from what I remember

TIt’ll basically I played the original guild wars for a while but found the weapon system very limiting and boring. Was wondering if it’s still microtransaction heavy and limiting like I remember
