Update: Resolved the issue by copying my .dat file from my windows installation on Bootcamp, shown in this https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/Hint-to-all-you-can-just-copy-your-Win-installation/first#post159658 thread. While a possible solution, my guess is the real problem was a corrupt download. So if any of you are also having this issue and you do not have a Windows installation, you can try redownloading the Mac client.

I’ve tried it several times. It’s not working for me at all. Considering re-downloading I guess.

I get the following when trying to run the client on my early 2011 15’’ Macbook Pro: A serious error has occurred that prevented the application from continuing. A report has been sent to ArenaNet to help determine the cause.
Is anyone else getting this issue?
My mistake then, this is the same as QZ? Which while one of my favourite skills for sPvP, the 4 second buff isn’t long enough for me (well sure, it’d be way to overpowered any longer since I can drop some classes in that) but I wouldn’t warrant the 5 points still, I love my build far too much.
Yeah it’s the same as QZ, just 2 seconds instead of 4. It’s really useful imo because you have 2 seconds of half-speed action every 20 seconds untraited, which is of course much more often than QZ’s 60 seconds. And it’s only an investment of 5 points, which most people consider to be worth it. I don’t know if could go back simply for the staking in pvp alone.
Yeah it’s quickness, which is ridiculously good. Best use of it imo is to pet swap immediately before staking someone, because then you are killing them in half the time, which is quite frequently before anyone can react with their downed state interrupt.
That may be the case for others, I don’t know. I’m specced into Beastmaster so my pets have really great stats and don’t die very easily at all (in fact, my bird pets have as much health and toughness as I do, and I use a Knight’s Amulet). I can use attack pets and they still live plenty long. Again though, don’t have any experience with non-pet builds so I don’t know if they die too quickly or not for those builds. I do know, however, that an increase in base stats would make traited pets really, really good… perhaps too good.
Agree with the condition removal problem, and I agree with mouse. I find that Rangers, even if they try, can’t get the same kind of condition removal as other professions.
Mouse certainly isn’t wrong, but there are other builds that work equally well imo. Something else to add, bear pets are really good for soloing in pve. It takes a lot to kill them. Drakes are also really tough and they all have nice aoe attacks. The 5 stacks of might from Jungle stalker lets you really gank a group of mobs if need be as well. If you go Mouse’s route, your pets won’t be able to tank for you as well. A beastmastery build with other lines can work really well for pve as well. It’s what I run personally and I plow through content (general pve, not dungeons).
Aside from that, absolutely agree with what he said on heals/utility/elites. Muddy Terrain can also be nice for certain situations, as well as frost trap. Shortbow and axe/warhorn are good. Personally I prefer Longbow+axe/axe for doing a lot of AOE damage, as I find it allows me to take down a lot of mobs quickly, but to each his own. Sword/Horn+shortbow is my preferred weapon combo for soloing vets or champs though.
I don’t really agree with your assessment of the devourer. If you think of it as a tank, then you would be right. But it’s not, it’s a ranged pet first and foremost, with great tools for maintaining that range. Not only does the family have that retreat (which is very useful for a ranged pet), but it also has a knock back, which is useful for maintaining ranged and very useful as a skill in itself, for interrupts and such. Also, the Lashtail devourer is the only ranged bleed from a pet in the game, and the Whiptail devourer is one of two ranged poisons from pets in the game. (The other being the Forest Spider).
Other than that, not a bad video. I’d like to see a video sometime of a detailed description of all the pet families and their roles. Would be pretty useful for incoming ranger players I think.
Did it ever occur to you that Lightning Reflexes could just be symbolic and not literal in nature? When used in daily life, the expression “lightning reflexes” just describes a reaction that is very quick.
Thunderclap could also refer to a inflicting a thunderclap headache via a blunt object as opposed to summoning lightning to daze foes.

In any case, your claims are frivolous at best, and nitpicking at worse.
Well Lightning Reflexes actually strikes nearby enemies with a literal bolt of lightning. You can see/hear it. Same goes for Thunderclap, actually.
Lightning Reflexes doesn’t really bother me, I think it’s kinda cool. The spirits are a little elemental, but I don’t care too much. Honestly I think just renaming them would make them just fine. Spirit of the Sun, Spirit of Winter’s Frost, Spirit of Spring’s Storm, Spirit of the Earth. Those sound pretty ranger-y to me.
I don’t really have this issue. I’ve made a habit of always pressing Shift+R (My f3 hotkey) every time I’m not in combat though, and a lot of times while in combat when I don’t want my pet to engage. That said, I think stow should function differently for multiple reasons, and I think it would be pretty easy to change. It would function as follows: pets are permanently stowed when you press the stow button (I wish stow had its own hotkey also), however, if you press the Any of the F keys, your pet is pulled out of stow. But only then. When the F key is pressed, the pet takes the action right out of stow, such as attacking with F1 or swapping pets with F4.
