Playing in a custom arena with my friend, I have died 3 times so far without any combat log information and he has not attacked me. Also just had my weapon switched to Spear (playing Mesmer) in Legacy of the Foefire.

That depends what your group is going to be running as well, builds should synergize with each other, not be considered in isolation.
To craft celestial items you need to know the recipes. Check the trading post.
