And it is working now. Not sure if it was something where it was just super crazy/busy before, or if Guesting on/off fixed the issue. But everything is back to normal.

Alright – on Arborstone, it took a full 10 min to load up Lions Arch. Loaded Up and able to cast/move around OK. Going back to Desolation now to give it a go.

Myself and some other players from Australia are having severe issues with lag/latency where the game is taking ages to load up between maps and there are heavy delays when moving/casting spells (I counted 15 seconds earlier to cast a single 1 sec spell)

All three of us are having the same issue, so I know it’s not an ISP issue. Speed test looks OK. I’m on a ADSL2/Copper line connection, my friend who is having the same issue is on NBN (Fiber to the Premise).

Clients have been restarted, computer restarted.

Any recommendations? We’re with different ISPs. Only thing we have similar is we are all Australian Players on the Desolation server.

We have not had any issues like this prior to today and have been playing fine since launch.

Im saying that as long as you have all timezones on one server it cant be done like this.
Im not saying there is no solution.

Other games have solution by having EU / US servers and EU players cant play on US servers and vice versa. That way you can make sure that each timezone has the event in peak time.

I believe there are many other solutions, but not in the current model and with “one time” events presented the way ANet is presenting them.

Imo, having multiple timezones on one server is just not good thing for 1 time events.

Thank you for taking the time to clarify your post. Your original post made it sound like there was “no solution”. I apologise for misinterpreting your post.

The EU / US servers are a good idea in theory if you only have EU and US players, but the moment you throw Asia/Oceania/etc into the mix, it becomes a horrible mess with region locking. I think WoW tried to region lock certain countries to different areas, and in turn players just purchased either an EU copy or an NA copy of the game. Granted, if you do that, then it can be your fault if the ‘one time event’ is on at a wrong time for you on your current server.

I agree with you on the multiple time-zones on a server with one-time events… It just ends badly and in player backlash. Even if it is your time zone, and you have work or something, you can still miss out.

I think if they could make the events run something similar to the dragons on a 3 hour timer, then players can contribute to the event regardless of time zone and real-life commitments. But as mentioned previously – only can loot the chest once.

I don’t know if the ability to multi-log, reloot the chest, and if precusors were intended with this particular event; although it dragged the prices on TP down which is good, it also split the community. “XYZ player looted it 5 times! I didn’t know we could do that!”. Having a single loot per account would acknowledge this issue.

If people want to reloot the chest, the reward tables can drop. Similar to how dungeons give you less XP for each re-run of them.

I really, really do hope that ANet has learnt from this event and will take on board the feedback given from players on the forums, social media and surveys and find a way to acknowledge the time difference issue.

Start a new character in one of your other character slots. No need to delete. All items crafting are account-bound so you can still craft items for other characters.

Also, Liam Neeson:

Liam Neeson isn’t so fat, and he doens’t have weird Warhammer-style shoulders. Sorry to burst your bubble.

I did that I didn’t want to pay to recycle my traits at level 80 (I like to switch between staff spells and dagger spells, as well as Fire and Air) so I made a second character.

It has been discussed everywhere. As long as you can have multiple time zones in one server, and Im talking oceanic guy, US guy and EU guy on the same server, there is no solution how to make 1 time event without leaving one party out.

It’s very narrow minded to believe that “there is no solution” on how to include all players without even first considering the options, possibilities, or even pausing to think of a solution yourself. MMOs have been around for a very long time, and will continue to exist; and while they exist, you will always have an issue with timezones. There are many solutions to many problems, and it’d be nice to hear what other players can recommend rather than having someone slam them down and say “NO! YOU CAN’T DO IT!”.

I think its a rough spot for them. Its about more than pleasing the customers already here, they need revenue and thus more new customers and one time events are huge for that kind of thing. You need the new customers to feel welcome and like the world is huge and expansive, like they are part of something grand..a singular instance or dungeon isnt going to do that, its going to feel generic and “meh”. I think they should just limit the overflow servers to only so many people..a number it can handle easily and allow everyone to see all enemies and not have major disconnect issues or lag. I also believe the chest should be account only.

I’m not sure on the mechanics of the game, but you could theoretically, limit an area to say 30-50 people? Cutting down on lag, clipping, rendering issues, etc. Or as you said, limit overflow – but whether they have enough ‘Overflow Servers’ for the amount of players around.

I can see where you are coming from. Looking at the videos online, it looked pretty cool having players EVERYWHERE just attack-spamming. Reminded me of when players first realised that dragons spawned in different map areas and you see players left-right-centre. The flip-side is the lag due to player load could’ve been a deterrent for new players as well.

As another option, if they wanted to leave the event as ‘one time only’, allow players to go back and “revisit” the event. They get together a party or squad (30 players) and enter the instance. That way people don’t continually miss out on events. You can limit the time the event runs for from anywhere from 24 to 72 hours. As I said earlier, not just for Ancient Karka but ALL ‘one-time’ events that ANet has executed OR planned.

I remember reading a while back how many US players were upset at missing the Mad King finale, so ANet set up a ‘Mad King Actor’ that gave you your achievement and hat. While this was great on ANet’s behalf, I don’t believe in handing out things for free just for talking to someone. It makes the reward feel ‘cheap’. I believe that players should work for the item, and that they should do it together as well so that it can foster a greater community and player cooperation. There are alternative ways to deliver the event while still ensuring that all their customers get the content.

I am curious as to this comment made by ANet a while back:

“How we’ve came to this conclusion is that no player’s time is more valuable than another. Everyone has different off peak hours for whatever reason. Players should not be punished or unable to experience and view the same content as everyone else because they play at a different time. They too are paying customers.”

Having missed out on the Ancient Karka event due to time zone differences, how does that event fit in with the statement made by ANet? I understand that the appeal of a ‘one time event’ is that it only runs for one time, however I also feel that as a player I am being punished by not playing at what ANet deems as “prime time”. I am not saying that I am any more important than any other customer, but I would appreciate that when they make a game that is World Wide, to actually cater to a world wide audience.

So, rather than throwing a tantrum about it, I had a discussion with other members in my guild who also missed the event.

And the question is: What can be done to resolve this, while still keeping it as a one time event? Please note that this is not just in response to the Ancient Karka event, but also the Mad King appearance. And possibly, in future, a Wintersday event when it get’s released. (If they continue down the path of one-time events)

Suggestions are welcome.

My personal thoughts on this are to run the event as per normal, but have it set up in a “dungeon”/area that you can only enter once. Give players 24 hours, perhaps even 48 hours to enter the area to complete in the event. Once they’ve entered the area and have opened the chest, they cannot enter it again. (Also acknowledging the issue of disconnects before opening chest)

The other options are either have the account loot the chest once – prevents multi-logging from people with Alts; once the chest is looted, you can’t loot it again. (But you can help out with the event again)

Otherwise – introduce the Ancient Karka/Mad King/other one-time events, etc as a Fractal in the new dungeon.

Thoughts?

It’s not an issue. I use cliffs to-

1: Get away
2: Trick my opponent

You’d be surprised how many people will actually follow you off of a cliff and die as well.

^ lol. This made my day.

What do you do about people who take advantage of that? Memsers – Temporal Curtain, Guardians – that bubble shield, Necros – Fear ability. There are many things that can push a player off a cliff. It’s not just players running off them.

Probably, in part, because of videos like mine. Just cowards/bads trying to save face. Move along, nothing new to see here.

This can easily be solved by the devs changing a few lines of code to leave the character in-game until combat expires, regardless of whether the client was closed.

… Please don’t. I was stuck in combat for a good 15 minutes once; whilst in a jump puzzle and couldn’t make ANY progress. I would be extremely annoyed if I wasn’t able to log my character due to a bug/glitch OR because I targeted an enemy that ran but I couldn’t kill them.

As a side note – I don’t care for an Alt+F4er – if they do it, good. Their server didn’t need them and they just freed up a slot for a legitimate player.

I do not believe in ‘punishing’ players with a debuff either, because things happen – issues in real life, need to go straight away (family emergency, work, etc), game crashing, computer crashing, windows updates in all their glory, etc.

I WILL Alt+F4 OR character select from WvW BECAUSE I don’t like being returned to Lions Arch if I was in a certain area in PvE. Character switching/Logging puts me BACK where I was when I was doing PvE and I prefer that. I think if you get downed though and you log, that is unfair and doesn’t show good sportsmanship. I think the player should still get credit for the ‘kill’ (even if downed state) when they log.

I believe ANet once stated that the vast majority of accounts the gold sellers use are hacked/stolen accounts. This is usually accomplished by installing keyloggers on your computer when you visit their site to buy gold. They then sell you the gold after you’ve paid the money, and then a few days later, after they’ve had time to narrow down and pinpoint which of your passwords belong to your e-mail and GW2 account, they log on to your account, change your password, liquidate all your assets, then steal back any gold still remaining on your account to sell to another hapless victim within the same day.

Yup! See below: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Compromised-Account-Please-post-here-merged/first#post495323

Ok guys its pretty obvious that the guild wars game is having a major hacking issue right now. I am reading these forms and hundreds if not thousands of players are getting banned accounts for "taking part in or assisting in gold or real money trading etc…

Would someone please kindly release some form off statement as soon as possible to let everyone including myself know what the issue is and how you plan on rectifying it…we all love guild wars very much and this experience is begging to tarnish it.

Thank you.

What you are stating is not true.

Accounts are stolen every day. It’s a sad fact of life that players use passwords on multiple locations, use a weak password, share their account, or do something else that results in the account’s theft.

We have not experienced a security issue. These are individual issues. And while you’re seeing perhaps a dozen posts a day about this subject, hundreds of thousands of people are playing without incident. I believe that Mike O’Brien stated that the percentage of people whose accounts were hacked was about one tenth of one percent of all account holders.

Please do not post alarmist comments about “major hacking issues” that do not exist. Each person whose account was compromised should submit a ticket to Support and, for faster service, should provide the information in the “How to submit a ticket” thread above.

Oh c’mon how many people really stay naked in a dungeon and really have no money(!) to repair? About 0,1% of it? so 99.9% must live with gold sellers and botters?
And yes if someone goes into a dungeon with less then some silver in their pocket i would blame them and not anet.

If you want to send gold to a friend, your wife or what-so-ever you like, use a guild bank. You can live with that option.
You can still send items directly to your friends, so thats no problem at all.
How often you need to send direct gold? Almost never. Send the item and thats it – and if you really need to send gold go to a guild bank or ask someone in a guild to help you, thats only a little bit uncomfortable but protects the game a big time.

The option “then they use the TP” is not valid. First they lose Gold. Second: Selling in the TP is anonymous. You cant buy exactly “that” item….so what those lousy Goldsellers do then, when they dont know which of those 1000 offers are yours on that item, AND ANet could change that the TP only shows the ~20 cheapest offers on the TP – then the Sellers have absolutely no chance anymore!

OK – so what is stopping gold sellers from using a Guild Bank? Or joining a big name guild and using that as a masquerade to hide their true intent? “Oh, we’re giving them 100G for the commanders title…” plus you can join an infinite amount of guilds, so you’re back to the same situation again.

The interesting thing is that these botters, assuming ANet does indeed ban a lot of them on a regular basis, seem to be able to afford so many GW2 keys. Based on the prices of some of the sellers, they would have to make 100-200 gold per account – and sell it – to actually make a profit. (Scammers we do not care about, since they do not have an effect on the economy, or spam places with bots)[…]

I dont think they promised guesting at launch. They did promise guesting as a feature. They did not say when.

I would assume it was a promised feature on the basis of how this was written:

When Guild Wars 2 launches, you will also have the option to play with your friends on another world with our free “guesting” feature.

I interpret that as “when the game launches, guesting will be up and running”. However, games being the way they are, and MMOs even more so, it’s understandable to see why it’s not working. There would be a multitude of issues that can be faced – such as disabling the World/Realm bonuses, but there is even the issue of Overflow.

I am seeing the overflow message probably about 3 times a week now? Not as bad as launch, but it’s still there – and I suspect that the same thing might happen with Guesting. Where do they put the guests in the party? If they’re in overflow, it’s like being on a different server, you can’t see your party members in game. So do they move the whole party to overflow? Or do they push priority for the ‘guest’ to be on the main server, and sever inhabitants to be pushed to overflow? (Which would be unfair on home-ground players)

The good news is that they are working on fixing the free transfers issue. But also understandable that they can’t promise when it will be released – between bugs, exploits, botters, gold sellers, special content, game updates, etc, there is still a lot of development in GW2 that they need to do. I personally would love to hear an update of when it will be fixed, but I doubt that we will hear it, until it’s about to be launched, or HAS launched.

Stop Using Cutscenes for NPC Combat Deaths!

in Personal Story

Posted by: Alisana.9451

Alisana.9451

Semi-serious now. :P

Really though, I think the killing off of characters can get rather old, rather quick. I have no emotional attachment to the NPCs now because I’m running on the assumption they will die. Going through story missions with my friend, we sit there and place bets on who is going to die.

Yes, it is war, and we suffer losses; it would have some meaning if there is more immersion. Another user mentioned the ability to fight with the deaths, but use scripts that guarantee the NPCs death, so that way the player can really feel/see the loss and that the efforts are futile.

RE: point about us dying all the time and NPCs dying and never to come back – they can add in a thing where if you are killed by Zhaitan minions, you cannot come back. OR what they can do is at the very start, you could include an extra mission where you get an item, or a blessing from the gods that means you have a chance to come back BUT there is only enough for YOU and because you are the hero, you have the chance to revive, but the NPCs don’t.

I think it would be nice if we got to see more of the NPCs before their untimely ends, whether it be in dynamic events, renowned hearts, or just extra missions in between. We can get a chance to forge a stronger emotional attachment to the character, so when they sacrifice themselves for your sake, you have a stronger attachment.

But, back to the original point of the post: Cut scenes for NPC combat deaths. I think the way GW is coded now, it isn’t something that is possible to do without flaws/bugs/exploits. Yes, it is something that can be done in future, whether it is with an engine change, or even how they script the events, it isn’t impossible to implement. I really do like the idea of the “futile save” to protect an NPC, your enemy can knock your character back (negates all other spells) then one-hit kill the NPC. Regarding camera angles with missing important information, you can narrow the depth of field; similar to how when you fight Zhaitan's eye and the camera zooms out completely so you have full view of the room. Possible, just difficult to implement.

How the hell is it “complicated” to not allow transfers every 24 hours ? How “complicated” is it to make it a higher time limit ? How “complicated” is it to see there’s ZERO reason anyone needs the ability to transfer every single day for free ?

Become a game developer and find out for yourself. It’s not just about code, but balancing game mechanics as well. What effect will limited transfers have on servers? What effect will it have on players? How often is too often? etc. There are many things that ANet have to put into consideration when making these changes.

As others have stated, there are many reasons for transferring – queue times can be a big one. It’s not always people transferring to the winning server, but they may never get a chance to go to WvW because of long queues, or they wish to party with friends in dungeons on other servers (no guesting).

You fail to anywhere show me why people NEED to be able to transfer for FREE , EVERY DAY.

Again , it’s not rocket science to see that allowing CONSTANT DAILY SERVER HOPPING causes far more problems than it helps.

People can avoid queues by transferring to a less populated server , they then DONT NEED TO DAILY KEEP TRANSFERRING.

Sorry , but you , nor any AN dev or other poster , has given a valid reason that the timer is set to allow you to transfer every single day for a good reason.

The queues excuse doesnt hold up , the play with friends one doesnt etc ,

Sorry , its a blatantly poor decision to allow constant free server transfers.

Sigh. If you are going to respond to a post, at least a) read the post, and b) there is no need for “yelling”/caps. I simply offered a perspective where people genuinely transfer. The purpose of my post was to point out why people transfer, not why people transfer every 24 hours. Calm down. Sitting here and venting your frustration, while may help you mentally, it doesn’t help the situation here. Rather, take a step back and look at what suggestions can be made for ANet, suggest some alternatives that they can take on board rather than throwing a tantrum about it. Attacking ANet and other players isn’t going to rectify the transfer situation.

Some people will do this every 24 hours though BECAUSE there is no guesting option. We don’t have a choice when there is no guesting – if friend A is on server A, and friend B is on server B and Guild C is on Server C and your player is on server D, and they want to party with different people across different servers, you’re punishing them by not allowing them that option.

Yes, people WILL abuse the system, but that can’t be helped.

ColinJohanson.2394:

Just wanted to quickly add we’ve got people working on fixing issues with free server transfers as well, its proven far more complicated than we originally intended/expected to get done but is absolutely being built and is coming as soon as we can possibly get it in and bug-free.
We’ll also be working on a number of other WvW features we’ll talk more about in the coming months once they’re closer to being implemented!

1

Until ANet get’s the guesting option up and running, free transfers will be here to stay. You cannot remove a feature without offering an alternative to players.

For reference, this is a blog post when they first explained guesting:
http://www.arena.net/blog/choosing-and-transferring-worlds-in-guild-wars-2

While you can change your home world, there is a limit of one world transfer every seven days per account and a charge of 1,800 gems for each transfer. A world transfer moves all of your existing characters to your new home world. Any subsequent characters you create will also play in this new home world.

When Guild Wars 2 launches, you will also have the option to play with your friends on another world with our free “guesting” feature. With guesting, your characters can play on any world where you have friends—with certain restrictions. For instance, you will not be able to participate in WvW while guesting.

I recall reading somewhere as well that when you are guesting, you don’t get your home world bonuses, or the other world’s bonuses. The idea was to allow for cross-server assistance without the need to change your home server.

1 Side note: an ANet member mentioned that they won’t “confirm” updates/features, etc until they’re near the final development stage as if they say “we promise you x” but then release “option y”, players can get upset and frustrated. Case and point, the promise of guesting at launch, but we don’t have it.

What about if I want to mail my buddy a few gold so he can buy himself some armor or dyes or w/e? There are reasons to mail gold.

“a few gold?” You betray yourself. I would be amazed if more than 5% of the plares have had more than 3 gold at one time total.

The difference between rich player and poor players in this game is staggering. The guys who got in immediately and cheated and manipulated the market are on top, and they will stay there forever.

i just built a level 50 rare greatsword, put it on the market for 16+ silver and got 3.02 back. The pump and dump is that bad.

personally i would limit the mail to 20 silver. you don’t need more than that for a low level. Taxing high value mailings would also help. you want to twink a toon be prepared to pay.

… It’s not that hard to get 3G. I burn through 2G a day in crafting alone across my eight characters. Some dungeons have a 75s to 1.5G return on them, and if you are good enough, you can get through them fast enough to generate that amount per hour.

My greatest concern for WvW is the aggressive stance the system takes against Support Roles in general.

I play on my Elementalist anything from Glass-Cannon Builds to Full Support Build and its amazing how WvW is extremely damage oriented that the very little support builds out there are changing over to damage builds since the system does not reward anyone who tries to actually support, but only rewards those who damage enough or kill.

I play a decent support build and sometimes I run with a friend who runs a second support build. Together we heal and maintain zergs decently, but the zergs are the ones who get most of the rewards while the Support Builds are extremely hard to receive anything.

The focus on support builds is for the players who are with us. We constantly are monitoring our own fighting force, trying to heal groups, resurrect fallen players, defending keeps and trying to make good of everything we have at our disposal.

Yes, there are many I’ve spoken to who wish to play support, but refuse to do so until a system is placed where support players are rewarded for their actions.

I agree. I tried out PvP for the first time, and needless to say I was VERY pleasantly surprised when the voice over called out “Team member revived!” and it was added to my score break down, AND I got extra glory for it. It’d be nice if WvW did something similar.

It can get extremely frustrating when you are reminding the team to res people when taking important areas, such as a castle – but all people care about is cramming into the Control Point circle and those that HAD contributed to the fight and died miss out because people are too lazy to bother res’ing them.

4) WvW – fighting in an area, need to buy a seige, can’t run outside to the bank because invaders are hammering on your front gate (plus you’ll need to get past them on way back [contested waypoint] AND time is precious in WvW). Ask friend to send gold, buy seige to defend the keep/outpost.
5) Exotic Weapons/Armour – I couldn’t craft them and my friend had mats, but given the cost of them, I sent him money to compensate/offset the cost of the materials.
6) One of my friends sends all his high end mats, unidentified dyes, mystic coins, etc to me as he isn’t bothered with chasing down the legendary weapons. Same thing, as compensation, if he wants a new armour set, I’ll send him money to get it. Again – some sets are soulbound on acquire.
7) Use of guild bank for transfers: No. Just no. The guild I’m in, only Officers can remove items from the guild bank – this is to prevent new members, or even general members from withdrawing things they’re not supposed to. I saw a suggestion of having influence related to how much you can withdraw, good idea – however if you have the CE, you get influence items (Tome of Influence, Chalice of Glory, etc) – there are work arounds to boost your influence to access the bank. The other thing with guild banks is if everyone can touch them, you have no guarantee that the intended will receive the gold. The other issue you can face is the Nigerian Scamming act or if a player “grooms” a guild, gains their trust, then bam, everything gone. There are manipulation artists out there, and they don’t care about how much time they invest into getting what they want.

While I understand that bots and gold sellers are a serious issue that needs to be addressed – I don’t think harming legitimate players is the way. There are other methods; for instance where you can scan for ‘odd’ mail where if there is a new account that is sending out gold repeatedly, to stop that or bottle-neck it. Or even something that can detect if a macro is running or communicating with the GW client and send the user a warning, get them to verify themselves, and if they fail, to kick them. (An old game I used to play when I was younger sent players “rubics cubes” that you had to solve if you were idle or repeating the same actions over and over, or you’d be teleported somewhere random – if it is a genuine player, they’re rewarded with ‘soulbound’ cosmetic items, if it’s a bot, they get kicked).

Removing the option to send gold will only harm your legitimate players – bots and gold sellers need to be targeted from a different angle.

Remove the Ability to mail gold!

I don’t understand why the ability to mail gold is currently in place?

There is no trading by mail so it is not needed there.

All inter-account trading is done through the account wide bank

All trades are done through the TP

As far as I can tell the one and only reason for being able to mail gold is so you can buy gold from gold sellers. If you remove this option you instantly shut down 100% of gold sellers and lose absolutely nothing in the process?

That is a surprisingly ignorant statement to make. As other users have said, there are many genuine reasons to mail gold to other players.

The user below, and other people who have responded have made valid points.

What about if I want to mail my buddy a few gold so he can buy himself some armor or dyes or w/e? There are reasons to mail gold.

1. just buy him the armor and dyes and mail him those. edit or use the guild vault to send him what he wants.

2. Yes you should try to think before posting, better luck next time

You do realise that some items are soulbound when bought right? Or that some players send items for gold to skip the TP listing fee? Or even to get other users to buy items off TP for them because their’s doesn’t work?

Examples where I have sent/received gold:
1) TP did not work for me for three days – I could not purchase items and I was trying to hit 400 in crafting, instead I mailed gold to my friend, he bought the mats, sent it back to me.
2) I collect mini pets, but some aren’t worth listing on TP due to the listing fee. I sell these to my friends and subtract the TP fee out of it (going on the logic that I would’ve paid for it anyway), my friends get the item cheaper. Yes, I’m aware that I’ve taken out the TP listing fee, but even if I listed it cheaper, A – there is no guarantee that they can buy it before someone else does, and B – I will still pay the listing fee on the cheaper price.
3) New character, DEAD with no cash, and no way to teleport to a Waypoint – OR if you’re in the level 75-80 areas, all waypoints around you are contested, no players in sight, undead everywhere, same thing, no coin or not enough coin cuz it’s been spent on repairs, ask to borrow coin to get to a waypoint. And before anyone suggests it, no, I am not carrying around my bank savings on my character. There is a gold horder title that I’m after, and I’d rather my characters live off coin that they’ve accumulated organically rather than constantly withdrawing from the bank.

^ My thoughts too. I’d be concerned about that.

I know in the guild I represent only officers can withdraw from the Guild Bank, but it seems a bit odd that they can’t send money.

I might create a low level character for kicks and giggles and see if the mailing option does get suppressed, and if so, what is the maximum of gold per level.

I’m curious about this as well, more for if I should bother playing my other classes that I have put aside for my survivor title. (Complete PVE, no WvW or PVP)

It’s happening with messaging system as well. My friends frequently send me items to craft seeing as I’ve hit 400 with my crafting skills, but sometimes he’ll get suppressed for “excessive messaging”. We’ve tried altering how we type things.

Even simple things as when you die and someone res’s you, the constant “thanks” or “ty” can get you suppressed. Rather annoying. I can see why it’s in place, but at the same time it shouldn’t block things like that.

WvW is the worst for being suppressed though. As stated in my original post. You can’t warn of attacks if you can’t speak. I’m at the point now that I sit on voice chat with my friends and don’t worry about /party chat because of the suppression feature.

What people need to consider is that free transfers are a system apart from WvW that fulfill other purposes, but also left largely unrestricted in other ways impacts WvW in ways Anet never intended. I read another similar thread where someone stated how Anet had restrictions in place for transfers/guesting in their original design but for reasons they haven’t divulged abandoned them entirely when guesting wasn’t delivered upon release. Some of these restrictions are:

- No WvW participation while guesting
- No WvW participation for the remainder of current matchup if transferred
- No realm bonuses while guesting
[….]

^ I recall reading this too. I’ve been on Desolation since the second beta weekend and haven’t changed since. (First beta weekend was chaos organising which server we would go to)

I think until the ‘hype’ of GW2 settles down though, free servers will have to stay. I say this because I am starting to see a lot of people quit/drop off now. I can’t remember if I mentioned it in this thread or another, but a friend transferred to Desolation because all his friends quit – and playing an MMO without someone else can be rather bland. Initially I thought guesting worked, so I asked him to guest over, but when we found out that it was broken/not implemented, he simply transferred.

I think free transfer will stay open for a while until the dust settles and we get to see who are the players here to stay, and once that happens, then we might see the guesting option.

The Commander-system what it is and what needs to change

I think that there should be a vote system coming with the compendium. Either to vote every time you want to turn the commander on or people should be able to give the commander title to people they trust. Of course this would mean that people that spend 100g on it and don’t get voted to be commander are kittened. […]

The other thing is well is if they normally play a different character then switch to another, people may not recognise the name. OR you may have a VERY good commander, but they haven’t had a chance to prove themselves. How would this be resolved for “new” commanders? Could you do a “trial” system per say? E.g. First equip command title, then they get to lead, mark them as [NEW] or something, and that way players on your server can get a feel for how this commander is.

Which leads to the next point. We need to make the commander-system more usable. At the moment all it does provide is a shiny icon and a chat channel no one uses. The commander does not have any idea how is following him and who just happens to be running the same way.
I think the best would be to “upgrade” the commander.
Give him a interface ( viable via the hero panel) that gives him the basic informations who is in his squad, how many are still online of them etc. Also give him 3 basic ping’s that everyone in his squad can see. Something like “Look there!”, “Back out!” and “Attack!” would be more then enough and actually make the commander a commander and not a random zerg magnet.
Another quality of life change would be to colour the people on the squad so he would gain a visual feedback of what he is leading and what is running randomly around with him. This would give him a nice amount of control and allow him to spread informations quickly. Because lets face it there is no need to give out a global position information but not something the commander see near his squad. It is not like in war a commander would take his time and go to every solider and tell him there are enemy’s coming from the east.

I thought there were options in the Commander thing to add Defend/Attack, etc? I recall seeing a video about it, or does it only show up for the Commander and not the Squad members?

But very good points. Different coloured chat would be cool – I felt bad for one commander who was calling out attacks, and no one responded/cared until another player said he was a commander. (At the end of the day, if an attack is happening, you SHOULD be responding, commander title or not)

Really though, a 100G title should have something like party interface – different coloured icons on your map, and seeing WHO is in your team.

I hate that there are jump puzzles in WvW…. so many people just take up valuable slots on doing their daily puzzles, its destructive to the gamemode.

As a player who does the jump puzzle every day, I disagree. I do the jump puzzle, I get my blue prints (which have dropped blue prints) then I go and participate in WvW. I don’t mind spending money in WvW to hold our position, but it frustrates me when I’ve sunk x amount of money into upgrading a keep, it gets attacked, you call it, and people are sitting there “Fighting Champion/Veteran, etc”. I would rather do a jumping puzzle, get my blueprints that way to save money on buying blueprints repeatedly.

I couldn’t find your linked post at the bottom, but the current features of Commander title are rather limited. It should work similar to party – you can SEE who is in your party, and your can see them on the map.

Price wise I think it’s fine leaving it at 100g – can you image if it was 10g? Your map everywhere you go would be filled with icons.

Good post and excellent points.

I think the suggestion of preventing transfers between matched up servers could be an option, but people could still transfer from World 1 in Tier 2 to World 1 in Tier 3, then back to World 2 in Tier 2. (If that analogy makes sense) So, what about if you transfer out of your server, you can’t transfer back into yours, or servers matched up against you for a period of 7 days? (Length of a match)

The other thing to consider is with the transfers in place, it doesn’t just affect world vs world, but players who want to play with their friends. An example is in my case, I had a friend who played on one server but then his friends all quit, so he instead transferred over to where I was.

Time is still required to settle with the mass transfers.

I did hear of someone’s suggestion to link Tier 1 serves with bottom tier servers as “sister” servers, so that it would encourage high ranking servers to help out the bottom servers and give a bit of a distraction/rest form the same battles/tactics over and over.

I just logged off WvW for the exact same reason. I was trying to announce attacks on different keeps and I couldn’t even call them.

The last thing I said online was “I think all the other servers are waking up now” then when I went to say “attack on x” or to even link the waypoint, I got suppressed.

It’s rather excessive in my opinion =\
