The difficulty isn’t too high. The fact that by the time you get it, you’ve already gone through more than half the maps is the issue. If they were all put in the first area, there would at least be three maps to experience at our own pace and explore for the sake of exploring instead of because we’re forced to in order to get the class mechanics (Which were designed to fill holes in the base classes) to function fully.
I feel that’s very valuable feedback. Thanks for that insight.
Gaile, it’s not that it is “too hard” or something like that. I don’t mind playing Maguuma challenges to get enough Hero Points… once. What many of us say it’s:
- Maybe we don’t enjoy replaying the same challenges on every character (veterans like me have around 12 toons)
- Your whole game is “account based” (Fractal level, WvW and PvP ranks, ascended and legendary gear, Masteries, currencies, achievements…) yet this single feature is sould bound. EG: I play 2 warriors, one of them is a tanky-hammer one, the other is dps-condition focused… can you guess which one is more suited to be a Berserker? exactly, the one with not enough HP… why do I have to unlock Berserker, Reaper or Scrapper on every single toon? make it account bound and unlockable with some currency converted from Hero Points and maybe shards.
So our opinion now wont change in the future, cause it’s not a matter of “how hard it is” but “how annoying it is to be forced to play the same thing on every alt”

The thing is, Its cristal clear to me that they didn’t have alts on their minds when they choose the HP cost for the Elite Specs. Sure, 400hp it’s not so hard… for your main: you’ll have 200+ from good old Tyria so you’ll need only 20 Challenges to complete the spec…
But if you take alts on consideration:
- What if I have a warrior sitting on 214 unused HP, another warrior with 30 free hp… and it’s the latter the one designed to be Berserker? must I unlock berserker on my tanky-hammer warrior just because it’s going to be hell on my condition damage one?
- Do you really expect us to play the new maps and challenges, and the old maps too, with ALL OUR ALTS?… insane
Don’t be so hasty to judge. The expansion has been out less than a day at this point so there are some balance issues that inevitably need to be ironed out. Anet has a tendency to dial things back so give it time. In the mean time, how many points do you thin would be adequate for the Elite Specializations?
The mistake is soul binding the elites. Just let us unlock them with our ACCOUNT rather than with our individual alts. Same cost but payable with the HP stored on the whole account.

After thinking about the pre-purchase price a few days, I really have only one objection:
Those of us who have regularly purchased gems since release are treated the same as those who only convert gold to gems and never actually purchased gems.
I understand the promotional discount to new players as a temporary thing and I understand the steep price (assuming that price buys two more years of continuous investment by Arenanet).
I purchase gems with real money to support maintenance and development and am disappointed at receiving the same offer as players who do not support the game financially.
Honest question here:
Did you get what you paid for when you bought gems?
Don’t be a fool. Arenanet’s only income is from real money. Various virtual thingies offered on the BLTP for gems are enticements and rewards for spending gems. Players who grind gold are privileged to be able to exchange gold for gems but game gold pays no one’s salary.
Grow up. If gamers treat developers as unpaid volunteers, they will shut it down and leave to find work that pays.
Players who think they are entitled to perpetual improvements, expansions, balances, etc. without continued real costs are not customers Arenanet wants but continues to cater to.
By the way, if more players purchased gems with real money, maybe the HoT release price would have been lower.
That will be valid… If GW2 wasn’t one of the best “virtual currency” sellers every year, surpassing even League of Legends…
The gemstore DO pay Anet expenses and salaries…

I disagree. A more accurate example would be:
Microsoft: We have a new XBox for $200.
User: Oooh, I’ve never had an XBox! Would I have to buy the original XBox first though?
Microsoft: Not at all. This new XBox is based on the original, so all the features of the original are included in this new version.
User2: I already have an XBox. Do I really have to buy the new one? Can’t I just buy.. parts of it?
Microsoft: Uh…. The new one replaces the original.… etc…
Flawed logic.
In your example, the real scenario will be this one:
User 1: what is that?
Sony: PS4s external hard drive with recording software
User 1: I don’t have a PS4, do I need to buy one?
Sony: Not anymore! we are including the PS4 for free on this deal!
User 1: Neat!
User 2: Hey, I already have a PS4, how much is this upgrade for me?
Sony: The same price
User 2: So I can’t buy only the hard drive…
Sony: Nope
User 2: Well, I’ll get another PS4… I guess I just got my brother’s birthday present, he is gonna love it for sure!
Sony: Nope, you don’t understand. You can buy the hard drive at full price and we’ll keep the free PS4, since you already have one.

I may be wrong, but If A-net’s marketing/business plan cannot allow them to decrease their price of $50 or add a compensation for vets, then I think the best course of action would be to simply and honestly release some response:
Saying that they can’t.
Sure… they can’t give us 800 gems /free slot instead of the core game we already have, because that will wreck a billionare bussiness plan. But upgrading hundreds of accounts to deluxe after the beta-events did not…
Dude, that is just not true.
They can, they should… they must give us that extra.
You don’t know that. Don’t make baseless assumptions. For all we know it actually could make a dent. Again – not saying it would as that would be assuming too — I am just saying we no nothing. A-net is most definitely not a billionaire business
Guess again. Check NCsoft annuals and cash flows
Do you honestly believe NCsoft places their whole value on A-net? I’d guess A-net gets a sliver of a crumb of what NCsoft owns.
250 million dollars bnf 2014
77 of those, GW2 alone
HoT marketing budget = 25 million dollars

Many ways out this mess they made:
- Perks for the players that ALREADY had the game (character slot + skin/title/gems/whatevs)
- Another purchase option (about 40€) with only the expansion, so you don’t have to buy the game twice
- Separated redeem codes for the core game and the expansion on the HoT Bundle, so if you already have the game you can give that second account to a friend or use it as a bank account.

yet when this is all over and your rage is done you’ll buy it anyway so what is the point of this again?
You certainly don’t know what consumers accomplished through the years thanks to “raging”
Well, it’s easy to stay calm when you pay your games with daddy’s money…

abuse hahahah that was funny last i checked you were the one whining about a game abuse is not that they can trample over us if they wanted but they dont and the fact they’ve broken no laws business wise or otherwise means they can do as they please
Except they did.
False advertising, they stated, worldwide, certain conditions… and then changed them

That, or give us 2 redeem codes, one for GW2vanilla, one for HoT (since we are paying for both), so we can update the account we already have and send the “free core game” to a friend…
…for the love of Crom, it was a simple and obvious move: free character slot + some perk for veterans, free core game for new players…

Maybe we need an analogy here.
Imagine walking into a hardware store to buy some nails. The shopkeeper asks you if you already own a hammer, because what are nails without one?
You answer that you already purchased a hammer from him a few years ago. The shopkeeper says: “Great! So you don’t need one.” He then tells you about the sale they have now, where if you didn’t already own a hammer you would get one for free with the nails. But since you already have one you just get the nails for the same price a new customer would get the nails plus a new hammer. In this scenario, would you be completely kittened-off and demand either a discount on the nails or a new hammer for free with your nails as a returning customer as well?
Flawed logic. It would be a valid point if they offered the extra hammer to me aswell. But they don’t. A new customer will get nails AND hammer, but when the clerk see my face he says “hey, I sold you a hammer 3 years ago, so no free hammer for you”
