Actually, there is some evidence that the prices are being driven up artificially. Consider, for example, Armored Scales. Take a look at the supply chart: http://www.guildwarstrade.com/item/24289
Note supply drops as low as 15. I would argue that buying out that many armored scales at once goes beyond speculation into market manipulation.
One could argue that this was a reasonable response to the bot bannings. That is to say, perhaps someone anticipated that the price on these mats will rise, and hence bought them out hoping to capitalize on that.
Even if it is market manipulation, as I suspect, it doesn’t much matter for most people. In the end, the market will self-correct. So if you need t6 mats, just wait a bit; the price will come down. Market manipulation will really only ever be a problem with low volume (on supply an/or demand side) goods. For something like mats, I wouldn’t expect the prices to be out of whack for more than a day.
The exotic weapons you can get only from the forge seem to all have unique skins, and a lot of them are a whole lot cooler than skins you can get through regular play (e.g.: Foefire’s Essence). When I first saw that there are armor sets named after GW1 characters, I got really excited. Who wouldn’t want Khilbron’s or Rurik’s armor? After playing with the forge for a bit and receiving a few of these items, I realized that the skins were all just renamed crafted armor. Quite disappointing!
I do hope that these items will have their own skins added at some later point. It seems reasonable to expect that this may come to pass. A feminine version of Shiro’s in black and green would look too cool on my necromancer!
I wouldn’t worry about it. Every time the trading post has been choked up in the past, people have received their items/gold after some delay. I would bet that you’ll see your stuff sitting in your pickup tab later tonight or tomorrow.
I figured it’s due to bugged skill points being fixed on several high end zones meaning many people suddenly got zone completions and free 40 stack of ori or ancient wood.
Came here to say just this. The price of exotics also came down, for what I speculate to be the same reason.
I believe that is from a Diessa Plateau karma vendor.
I’ve definitely noticed some price manipulation in the exotics market by what I assume to be a group of people, given that literally hundreds of gold was needed to move prices the way they did. As someone who has been profiting off the exotics market, I was peeved as they were severely cutting into my profits, but in this particular instance I can’t honestly say it was hurting the overall game. The manipulations only affected the market for a single day, so even seemingly low-volume markets seem to correct themselves relatively quickly.
