I hate to revive “old” threads but I feel that this problem really needs to be addressed, I’d never really found it much more than an annoyance because it only happened when going to a waypoint or loading into an area and then it was only waiting 30 secs to get back in to the game but with the latest update I’ve found it very frustrating. Earlier I was doing an invasion event and had been at it for a good 35 minutes, the last group of minions were about to go down and then Scarlet would appear but as I went to the nearest waypoint the game crashed with this error (as it usually does 4-5 times a day for me). When I got back in I was on an overflow sever where the event wasn’t taking place so I waited a minute or so and then I was prompted to move back to my server. To my dismay when I got there the event was done and I had no reward for it and also didn’t have the daily achievement. This was rather annoying. It now makes me very hesitant to do any invasion events which is a shame as I really enjoyed them, it was also one of the main reasons that I logged in daily and without the temptation of doing one I’ll find myself on the game less and less.

However I do love the game and want to keep playing and with that in my I think I can shine some more light on the problem. When I first started playing GW2 last year my friend copied over all of the files from his installation onto my PC so that I could play ASAP. The game worked perfectly and I loved it but then work picked up and I found I had less and less time to play games, eventually I uninstalled it. Then last month another friend said that he was thinking about getting GW2 so I decided to re-install it, however after only a day of playing I started getting this crash. Same hardware, same version of Windows, so I thought that the problem must be new so googled it but I found people reporting it before I had even started playing last year.

To me this suggests that there may be a problem with how it is downloaded onto some machines (although I’m not really sure how this would cause it since as far as I’m aware the error is caused while extracting files from the archive which corrupts and crashes the game), I can’t really say for certain until I try another friends installation on my PC but, since his worked and mine doesn’t it does seem possible. Does that seem like any sort of credible theory? I know quite a bit about computers but not so much about networking and content delivery so I’m not sure if it’s possible.

I’d also like to see some sort of official standing on this, I’ve only seen the same few “resolutions” mentioned in every post on the subject, it would be nice to hear that it is at least being looked into instead of just saying the same thing over and over then ignoring the thread.
