Just in case anybody else ran into this issue, apparently it was a result of the upgrade to windows 8.1, and the latest AMD drivers, 13.11 beta, fixed things.
I’m returning to GW2 after half a year or so. I remember before I stopped playing before they finally fixed the eyefinity issues. Basically, the UI was on the outer extremes of the displays, and the cut scenes were way too close letting you watch a conversation between 2 belly buttons. Also on the character select screen it was this close.
Well, now that I’m back, I’m noticing these same issues. I know for a fact it was fixed, so what am I doing wrong? Nothing has really changed on my end except for an upgrade to windows 8.1. Any ideas?
Thanks.
yes linux client too please. smaller jump from mac to linux than windows to mac from what I understand.
but then how will we auto-run? to the explorers this will be a nerf!
You can’t really use GW2 as a benchmarking tool quite yet. Lots of people have really low fps for what they “should” be getting. I’m one of them. I’ve seen other people posting systems slower than mine (even still FX processors) with WAY better framerates. Some people are affected, some aren’t. It’s got to be a software or driver issue. I would guess many optimizations are yet to be made. Also video card drivers will better support the game soon too.
As for some of those GW2 cpu benchmarks, those are when they really drop GPU reliance by decreasing the resolution drastically. That’s why they can even see a difference in fps on the same video card. It’s a good way to benchmark cpu’s. However, crank up the resolution and graphics settings and the GPU goes to work, fps difference will be minimal at that point, even if it is a red-headed stepchild of a bulldozer cpu. In fact my low FPS never changes much with large player population on screen and tons of spell effects or nothing going on at all. I can only do about 40-50fps. Definitely a software issue here…
Well I’m glad it’s not just me. I have an XFX 7870 with the AMD FX-8150 for cpu, and was starting to get paranoid that my cpu was bottlenecking. People like to jump the gun on AMD’s bulldozer chips being a weak link, but come on I can run much more intensive games and double the FPS I’m getting in GW2.
Mine doesn’t seem to be as bad as some, but I’m usually right around 40-50 fps, with drops as low as mid-upper 20’s. The interesting thing is it is exactly the same with stock or overclocked cpu and video card. No change whatsoever. That makes me think software. Can’t wait to get this game pumping the fps higher. Curious to see about your tests with the drivers…
