Hi there! I’m back from my Overwatch addition and looking for friendly people!

The one thing I must say off the bat is, I do not have Heart Of Thorns. Nor do I have the money (or time) to appreciate buying it. Unfortunately, this is because I am in school for my Nursing degree (surgical nurse first assistant)!

With that out of the way, I am looking for a nice, 18+ (or mature) guild to talk with and help map completion to not be so mindlessly boring. I would prefer if you had a Discord server, if not, we could set one up! People should be kind and respectful, but also not afraid to poke fun at each other. “We tease because we love” is a good motto to believe in.

I have an 80 Elementalist which I want to remake as a different race after I’m done map completion, a 71 Ranger, 30 Mesmer, 20 Guardian, 20 Necromancer and a thief, I think.

I’m not sure if server matters anymore after the megaserver happened, but I am a Gates of Madness resident. =)

Some notes about me, I guess:
•I’m 20 years old, live in West coast Canada (PST).

• I’m in my first year, taking 7 courses a semester so I won’t be online as much as I wish I could, but will be on guaranteed once a week minimum.

•I’m really kind to everyone and I love the game, I just don’t have any more pull towards it because of having no friends in it.

•I almost played Overwatch competitively, but our off-tank moved across country and we lost our spot in the tournament during that.

Yeah! I hope to hear from you soon— send me mail in game!

TLDR

It’s impressive someone can write so many words about a spec we don’t know anything about.

Actually I wrote so many words about exactly that – that we don’t know enough about the spec to make any more speculation than simply this – Most people don’t like warhorn thematically, and most people would rather have a main hand. If you’re not interested in having discussions about this, why are you on the forums in the first place?

I think that people may just be too attached to the idea of sword, especially after believing it for so long, that they don’t want to accept Warhorn as the current bandwagon and/or are tricking themself into thinking that it doesn’t fit thematically. Or, y’know, they could just be greedy and want more skills = more diversity.

If we had no proof either way and simply looked at which weapon, Sword or Warhorn, would best fit a specialization named “Tempest,” I think the warhorn would come out on top.

I’m not certain, on fact, due to lash back, they have all the power in the world to stop right now and change their plans from whatever it may be, and we’d never even know.

Let’s quickly breakdown what everyone here is saying

1) You want sword(s) instead of warhorn for reasons.
Alright, let’s take this apart. For starters, there is a widely accepted assumption that the sword will fulfill a bursty skillset.
Why is this the assumption? On many other classes, the sword is used as a gap closer/dps weapon set.
We have some examples already with the specializations of weapons breaking tradition and it could be possible for the sword to do the same.

I’ve read claims here that say we have Scepter for mid-range burst and Dagger for close-range dps. What would sword add that we don’t have already? We have a dps set as well as a burst set (admittedly, the scepter has abhorrent autoattacks)

2) Warhorn would be a bad choice because it typically fills a support role.
It is assumed that the warhorn on Elementalist will fulfill this role as well. While the warhorn generally is not used for direct damage or the likes, there are few skills (like on Ranger) where it will. Perhaps we could get a skillset full of condi’s, maybe even some AoE’s as it has to do with storms.

If you assume that the sword will fulfill a bursty skillset without any confirmed skills available to us, why do you instantly detest the idea of a warhorn if you’re not sure what the skills are. Sure, there are datamined skills for the sword (which have been removed), but they appear to be extremely close to dagger skills and, even then, fairly ordinary for a swordset. Who knows, the Warhorn could turn out to even be a dps or even a bursty type of skillset— there’s nothing to prove it right or wrong at this point.

It is also assumed that we will have the one single animation for using warhorn abilities and, while we haven’t seen any other animations for them, that doesn’t have to be the case. Having a warhorn on the Elementalist (what with their 4 attunements) would give us 8 new abilities. 8 Abilities using the same animation is not going to be visually balanced in PvP as the mechanics of the game rely on observing what your opponent is doing and reacting to that. If an Ele brings a horn to their mouth, you should not have a 1/8 chance to get the prediction right.

For all we know, we could have something akin to a small channel where the horn starts smoking or becomes surrounded in fire/lava and, upon blowing into it, releases a linear ball of fire that leaves a burning trail or some such.

Once you break away from all the assumptions made on each weapon, there are a lot of possibilities that can actually happen with the warhorn. Whether or not they will is a different question though.

3) Thematically, does it fit?
This isn’t really a debated topic much, but it’s brought up so I might as well cover it too. The Tempest is all about calling the storms and dealing with the wind. Calling the storms is definitely a Warhorn trait, there’s no doubt about that. However, dealing with wind could be fulfilled with a mechanic (in compensation for the warhorn).

I should clarify though that, while I like the idea of a sword or, even, a two-handed weapon; I am, just as well, excited to see how the devs implement whichever weapon we end up with.

Question for some as well: Why are you searching for a new main when HoT releases— after all, the spec and new weapon is only an option to use, not a meta.

TL;DR: Try not to assume anything and think fresh^^’

Generously added for 50 bucks.

50 bucks for the expansion. Features, maps, and new things. You’re not paying $50 for the warhorn itself. Bruh.

I highly doubt kit implementation anytime soon— take a look at lightning flash even. That doesn’t appear to be ground-targeted either, nor glyph of storms. I highly doubt that those would be changed…

Any way to reduce elementalist "clickiness?"

You don’t really need a gaming mouse with buttons… They can get expensive and you really don’t need them (nor macro keys on a keyboard). Seeing everyone here tell you to buy better gear to play better actually makes me angry because this game is dependent on skill and swiftness of your fingers, not how much money you can shell out on gear.

I use the following and it works perfectly for me. F1-F4 keys aren’t that much of a stretch (even while pushing shift) since I have moderately sized hands. (I just moved them up a bit and hit shift with my pinky???)

F1= Fire Attune
F2= Water Attune
F3= Air Attune
F4= Earth Attune

1, 2, 3, 4, 5= Abilities, 1-5. [This is default]

Heal Skill= Mouse 3— Scroll Wheel click
Utility 1= Q
Utility 2= E
Utility 3= R
Ultimate= C
Dodge= Shift

Switch Weapon= Z
About Face= Tilde (~)

I remapped the default A, and D (which are turn/rotate your character) to Ctrl + A, and Ctrl + D. Instead, on A and D, I have Strafe. Essentially, I just took the default Q and E, put those on A and D, and put the default A and D on Ctrl + A, and Ctrl + D.

You do not need expensive gear or newfangled macro keys to be good. That eliminates part of ArenaNets philosophy of it being a game for everyone, based on skill.

I’ve started playing an Ele and really enjoy it, but I have a lot of trouble managing the attunement buttons and skills with the default layout. Any recommendations on a more efficient key mapping?

Scepter Ele?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Archangel.5942

Archangel.5942

So I do not see them really in game and after having searched the gw2 ele forums literally the word scepter is typed once in the entire forums (a few s/f) and it is referred to as having low damage. Also dulfy’s analysis of the scepter ele skills left them seemed pathetic as all attacks were listed as subpar damage to staff or dagger and requiring too much cc to be used where you have only the knockback of the offhand. (and apparently he just hated water scepter damage and utility).

So my question is simply is this a thing? I have heard only negative feedback on scepter when compared to staff and d/d. The only reason I ask is I have meterologicus for my necro and recently transition. Is it better to simply make and use an ascended staff if the skill set is horrible? and judging by lack of red post on here I am guessing ele is balanced where anet wishes it to be so cannot expect scepter boost. Asking for any skilled elementalist input on weapon sets.

It depends on what mode you’re going to focus on. There’s a lot of talk about D/D stomping all other sets because the context lie in sPvP. The same as Staff to Zerg WvWvW.
If you’re looking for a Scepter build, you’d have to specify which part of the game to use it in, really. Scepter (paired with Focus) is commonly run in dungeons and the likes, whereas you can run literally anything in Map Completion to do well.

Pro’s of using scepter is that:
• Dat burst doe
• Dat might stacking doe
• Vigor on Fire 3
• Toughness on Earth 2
• Good Synergy with Focus for helping your team
• Fresh Air builds

Cons:
• Water and Earth (aside from trident, toughness, and earth 3) are completely useless.
• Fire 2 has a large prep time and is not going to hit mid-fight unless you can immobilize.
• Autoattacks are about as good as bleach is at cleaning your insides.

What's the deal with Cantrips?

Archangel.5942

Its a pvp thing, where the defense is critical. In PvE, you don’t need to go full-defense, so the cantrips aren’t really necessary.

Lightning flash is amazing, regardless though. I never take it off my bar.

Would it be viable to run a non-cantrip build/setup for PvE and then switch them out when I PvP/WvW?

Really it can be a language-barrier but…

Is there a gear/weapon setup what with the changing of the utilities to Cantrips becomes viable in PvP/SPvP… This is how I translate the question…

A lot of people are interpreting it this way so it probably was my fault on phrasing it like that. But what I’m asking for it posted about 2 or so above this one by me:

Tyrannosaurus #rekt.

But, I’ve been playing D/D doing map completion and open world leveling and shtuff for almost my whole Ele ‘career’(?) and I really wanted to get into S/D because the burst from Dragons Tooth and Phoenix is amazaballs.
Plus, I’d also like to get my staff coordination up-to-par because I’ve neglected it so much since I run solo. And before you ask, yeah, I’ve tried finding people to run with but it’s so low-population in 1-25 zones

Originally, this was to figure out why Cantrips were so ubiquitously mentioned among everyone, but everyone is mentioning builds now, so I might as well kill two birds with one stone xD

TL;DR
Staff, S/D, D/D for open world PvE solo build? (One or the other, maybe even hybrid all 3? and without Cantrips) And no, I don’t need it to be “with a simple modification (traits and utilities) [to] become viable in PvP/WvW?”— I can have a separate build for that when it comes time. Right now, I’m just focusing on open world map completion and having fun. ^^

Not so much— I was just wondering if, since Cantrips are so ubiquitous among ele’s in the forum and YouTube and really everywhere— if it was viable in PvE to run without them. And apparently it is

Honest question, not trying to start anything here.

Now, it might be because I’ve been an on-and-off player since closed beta (and, even, only a level 49 Ele so far who PvE’s), but I’m just wondering…

The set up I’m running is d/d:
Heal Skill = Signet of Restoration
7 = Arcane Wave (for x stacking)
8 = Arcane Shield (for whenever I use churning earth // I use it in a combo against basic mobs when I can)
9 = Lightning hammer.

Now, every build I see for Ele has Cantrips— often used for all 3 utilities and traited for them. The trait makes them look good and effective, but I don’t see how they could be more effective than what I have…?
Is it a ‘whatever-works-for-you’ kind’a thing, or are Cantrips just chosen because of dungeons/fractals/PvP?

I’d prefer if I didn’t have to, as the server change is.. what $25? (Student debt/budget OP)
But we’ll see what turns up. For now, I have a Gates of Madness guild that’s interested in recruiting me. I’ll keep you guys written down as well though~

Hey guys^^ I’ve been a long time off and on player since launch (I burned myself out of the game from many 36-hour sessions over the beta weekends) and I’m looking to get back to stay. Only, one problem. I have nothing but the game content to keep me, no friends online anymore and the world is barren seemingly.

I am a PvE orientated player who enjoys SPvP once in a while, WvWvW is nice as well if you get away from the zergs….

Looking to get into an artisan but I’m not sure which one(s) yet..

I’m on the Gates Of Madness (NA) server (preferably something PST/West Coast…?)
Currently, I’m leveling what I hope to be my main soon, a 29 Elementalist. I have a 35 Ranger and many level 1 test classes xD

I’m looking for a playful, sarcastic and welcoming, fun-loving guild that has experience with the game. Basically, one that reminds you of an internet community like imgur or, in general, a forum board— One that reminds me of a ‘home’ in a sense.
If I do find a guild, I’ll be much more active than I am right now because I’ll want to see the people and (hopefully) friends in it^^
Skype group chat/call is preferred but I’m able to do Teamspeak, Vent, and Raidcall.

Uhm.. I guess I should say something about me? I’m just entering my first year at university in the first week of September, other than that, I work as much as I can, which isn’t much without stealing others’ shifts.
I’m playful and.. I dunno, this part always sounds kinda narcissistic xD
I’m nice, I guess? Sweet? Kind? I’ll help you guys out and make you laugh and stuff? xD
I’ll stay up late with you guys as well, even now it’s 2AM as I’m typin’ this out~

Well, that’s me!^^ I hope I can see you guys in game sometime soon!

…no, I’m serious. I haven’t seen anyone in the entire time it took me to clear Metrica Province… FIND ME<3
