I think it’s part of ANet’s plan to get players to experience both PvE and PvP. Personally, I think the new system is dumb. You have less options now and are forced to do things you may not like in order to complete your daily.
WHY ANET? My only source of income is gone. Life is not worth living anymore. But seriously, this was not even in the patch notes. This patch went ahead without the approval of the community. I’m sure this is devastating to everyone! How can anet change something so drastic and not include it in their patch notes?
We want the train back.
They do mention it in the patch notes, under World Polish in the Balance, Bugs and World Polish section:
All open world champions have been converted into events to allow for them to scale for large groups, or have had their classification changed to elite or veteran.
What I don’t understand…..why nerf the Frostgorge train but not the Queensdale train? This will just drive more people to the Queensdale train – which is already creating a toxic environment for new players to see as their first experience in GW2.
They did nerf the queens train, spider is now a vet, and bandit is a vet as well I think.
Gotcha – I expected the loss of spider once I saw the patch note, but didn’t see anything about a change to the bandit event. Thanks for the update.
Although he has “Veteran” in his name, he is still a champion drops champion bags.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
I was strictly referring to PvE, dynamic events to be specific. I have no experience with an Elementalist in PvP.
I made a video to show the problems I’m having.
I’m not saying I did those encounters perfectly, because I know I didn’t. However, when I was leveling my other classes, I went through the above encounters without much issue. I have to put in 5x the effort with my Elementalist just to achieve results similar to my other classes.
From my perspective, it just feels like the risk/reward for the Elementalist class could be a bit better.

I’ve level a Thief, Necro, Engineer, and Guardian to level 80.
However, my elementalist is level 50 and I die 10x more than I did with any other class. The class seems to die so easily but doesn’t do a ton of damage to make up for it like the Thief class. Every dynamic event I have to fight for my life if more than one enemy is involved.
I primarily use Staff sometimes switching to scepter. The only time I do a lot of damage is if I take the time to stack Might or used a conjured weapon.
I wanted to play a long ranged mage but Elementalist just isn’t fun at all. I may just quit and start a Mesmer. Does Elementalist become better at later levels or am I doing something wrong.
This is from the perspective of a person who only PvEs.
1. Necro
2. Ranger
3. Warriors(Needs nerfs. They’re too good at everything.)
Hey Anet, why does your balancing seem to favor PvP so much? As a Necro I already feel pretty useless relative to other classes in PvE content, and the current proposed changes aren’t going to make things any better. In fact, things are actually getting worse.
Can you at least consider the PvE ramifications of various skill/trait changes before you go changing things solely focused on PvP?
A big selling point for Guild Wars 2 was, ‘play the way you want’ but it seems you’re doing everything possible to make it mandatory for Necros to spend points into the Soul Reaping trait line.
Another big fault is Necros are extremely lacking when it comes to combos. Axe, daggers, scepter, focus, have ZERO combo effects. ZERO. The only none aquatic weapon that has combo potential is Staff and you don’t have many choices with it. Something really needs to be done.
Can confirmed. Has happened to me as well.
If you’re there mainly for DPS, there is nothing wrong with staying in fire as a staff elementalist.
As far as best for leveling, I would advise against D/D. Sure it’s fun and it probably has the best skill animations out of all the elementalist weapons. However, you’re still a squishy mage. Unless you’re pretty experienced with the class, expect to die a lot.
For leveling, I recommend a staff or Scepter/any off hand weapon you want.
It’s just another LS update that highlights the disconnect between the dev’s and what is actually happening in game. Chris whitelines focus on WvW and PvP is so deep that things like living story and PvE play are left in the complete dust. I find it hard to believe that they have any more then a single team out of the supposed 350 employees over there at anet working on PvE material. They just cannot be THAT BAD at this.
I mean people on this forum have literally spent months giving credible and tangible fixes and ideas for this game that would blow other competing MMO’s out of the water with very little work given the available resources, and yet….here we are.
This so much. It seems like they’re so focused on the PvP side of things and pushing “eSports” that all the PvE content comes off as just an afterthought. It’s funny because I’m sure there are more primary PvE players than PvP players yet Arenanet continues to try and push WvW down our throats.
Another repetitive achievement checklist and frustrating design decisions that offer petty rewards to the players who actually want to enjoy the PvE side of the game.
Just another day at the office for Arenanet.
Edit: I haven’t fought any of the bosses yet and I don’t care about how difficult they are as I’ll eventually beat them. My problem is the rewards offer little to no incentive to continue fighting them after you beat them the first time. One of my main issues with Guild Wars 2 is there is little to no sense of character progression once you reach cap. I also really hate the whole Living Story thing and I would rather have a real content patch with actual PvE content, new gameplay features, new skills/classes, etc. than achievement checklist #1251520512 for backpack #2902501251.

I would like an invite as well.
I would like an invite if there is still room.
I’m probably going to transfer as well. Server Status says Gates of Madness is a high pop server but it’s either a lie or everyone there are a bunch of bums. There are servers with lower pops that have more Tequatl kills than us. We only have one kill and that was with help from JQ. No one on GoM even attempts Tequatl anymore. I see people everywhere, but if it isn’t free loot, they don’t do it.
Has anyone figured out a temporarily fix or something?
Gates of Madness is a high pop server still with 0 kills. Lowest we’ve got him was 60% and now we struggle to get him below 80%.
I’ve been a part of 16 failed attempts. Looks like I’m never going to kill him. This isn’t fun at all.
It is pretty bad to be a necromancer on Tequatl. My first memories on old Tequatl were of barely ever bent able to get bronze, until the damage threshold requirement to tag the event and to get gold were lowered.
1. Staff only has one skill that hurts Teq, but it is poor damage and is really our only ranged option. Only staff 1 even hits him.
2. Tequatl might as well be immune to conditions, since your conditions are cleared after one tick due to how the condition cap works.
3. Power builds rely on crit % for most of their DPS since auto attacks are really slow. But Teqatl is immune to crit. No quick attacks Except for dagger.
4. Minions get 2 shot and have long cooldowns.
5. Obviously having no/few defensive skills or vigor doesn’t help. Necromancer stun breaks are terrible/long cooldown, which means that Teq’s super long fear destroys the class.
6. For whatever reason well of blood is a light field, not a water field, which means that the healing support you can bring isn’t wanted. (Also you have few or no finishers)
There are more reasons. Time to Reroll?
This is very true. The only thing I do on my Necro at Tequatl is time Wells correctly so the zerg stack can get 3 seconds of Protection.
Only 5 people benefit from that…..
Oh, guess I’m more useless than I thought.

I got a level 80 Exotic Bow at level 11 from one.
