I understand the desire to have your play-style supported. However, as a spectator without any vested interest in the guilds participating, it is not watchable. I’m sure for the people playing it’s fun to have a zerg vs zerg, but promoting it as watchable is ridiculous.

Do you think 5v5 arena is more watchable? Or even football? Actually both footballs or any other game/sport? If you are not invested in that particular game or game type you just don’t care and you will not watch it. It is not only gvg issue but all games share it. That’s why there is commentator and tools to give you sense of it. And this gvg doesn’t have and still have similar numbers of viewers as supported mode. And that brings a question: why?

Only fear i have is…WvW could suffer a lot.
There are enough GvG guilds out there which are roeming the borderlands searching for fights or waiting for the enemy. On smaller servers they make all the difference and on larger server they are often highly invested in organizing guilds, commanders and coverage.
If they have less incentive to go onto the WvW maps because they can instead have one fight after another in GvG this could be really bad for WvW.

My fear is shared with the first quoted user. Anet are already spending huge resources for an innovative WvW map and here we are, asking for another. If we were to receive such a map, what would become of WvW’s population driven maps?

I think gvg on demand would actually help wvw’s population. If not increase it at least sustain it.

There’s only so much zerg busting you can do till you get bored and leave the game. There’s quite a lot of wvw only players/guilds and there’s really not much they can do. This would give them an option to once a while do something else. Compare strength with enemy with equal numbers. And bear in mind gvg takes usually only 30-60 minutes and two per day (even per week) are not really that common. You need to prepare for the guild and it’s more stressful than just wvwing. Once you fight all possible guilds you start fighting only the ones with comparable level (stompfest or massacre are not really fun). And you don’t wont to fight them every day. You need to to practise and plan your strategies. And other players from guild wants to play as well and not only watch your guild members gvging. Not every day all 20 ppl are online and so on…

The other thing is maybe more pve guilds start doing gvg (there’s not a lot of stuff a guild of 10-20+ ppl can do together) and eventually start going organized in wvw.

One question about GvG. Why do people insist playing it under WvW/PvE context rather than sPvP where all guilds would have access to equal gear?

Mainly because of gear variety. In sPvP you have limited options (8? 10?) of amulets. In WvW you can choose what you want. For example knight armor + zerker jewelry is not available in sPvP. Or the new dire set. And more diverse stats provide more builds. Each person can choose by switching few pieces of armor if their stats will be more tanky or more glasscannony.
Other reasons are: sPvP wil never be 10+vs10+ or deathmatch type. GvG guilds do more WvW than GvG so why to split the community?

In February there was promised big WvW update. 6 months later, where is it? Was it canceled?

That would have been the removal of culling and the addition of world ranks and wxp I believe.

Not sure. Fixing culling didn’t add anythink new into game (except skill lags). It was just fixing half year old issue and beta test for later PvE fix.
WXP… It didn’t add a lot for wvw players as well. It has same value as server score for me. We’re getting both while playing and it doesn’t improve time spend in game. It only supports zerging, wxp trains and bragging. It does more damage than good.

True, WvW is a sinking ship. But why? Is it because of flaw design or because of Anet not caring? I believe it still can be saved. But only with fixing issues and adding new staff. Not with adding siege masteries and supporting zergs…

The distance is probably so close that zerg can split and if needed still gather at one point. And if there will be fight at all orgs the skill lag will be much worse than now.

Anyway it will not matter if 90 people will be ACed in keep and run/waypoint as zerg to defend.

The buff would have to be really big to force them defend more places at same time. If this the case then it would not only put GvG in danger but kill roaming and small scale wvw for sure. 1 vs 1(with buff) will be much harder and people start zerging more. With higher numbers the difference start be not that huge. And server with higher population will hold orbs so will be stronger -> weaker server will be stomped over and over again and stop playing -> will be more weaker…

If the buff is insignificant and reward for taking it are WXP then people will farm it the same way they farm worm and camps. If there’s no reward and no buff then nobody will care and nothing will change…

I hope Anet removes waypoints. Give these orbs on opposite sides of map and give them some different bonuses. Like server that holds them gains more points for next few minutes and then they restarts to unoccupied. Or opposite servers will gain less points. Or give supply all allied players on border. Or destroy one random enemy wall/gate. Or drain enemy supply from keep. Or destroys random 50 enemy ACs. Just something important, something changing way of sieging/defending, something giving more advantage to weaker server but not completely gamebreaking like stat buff.

Or to put it another way.. Can I come over to the state park that has a picnic area, tape off and take over a portion of it and tell everyone to stay out because I am having a private function?

If you are having picnic in state park, are other people going over the place where you are sitting? Are they using your food/ beverages? Even if you bring ball there they are not using it. If you kick it out they are not taking it and using for their fun. They usually kick it back to you… They will help you not interrupt you. They will not say to you to stop having fun and to go play different game or this place is public and they can do whatever they wont there…

When GvGing, yes. They should get no rewards for GvG. To me it is tantamount to the organised trading of lootbags.

Did you ever tried GvG? Or at least WvW? You should probably know that people killed many times during short period of time does not give loot bags… If GvG was about loot bags, GvGers would be broke by now. It’s much faster to kill pug zergs all over the map and in shorter time you get much more loot.

It’s funny how some people hate GvGers for not contributing to server rating but there’s not a single word about jumping puzzles, traders, kraits farmers, 100% map explorers, daily achievement farmers and so on… And there’s more of these people in wvw than gvgers.

GvG is only result of wvw design. Even after the Orbageddon players playing for fun will find a way…
