should work like an instance that only player + party may see. updates to ur house would not hurt (bed, chair, other door type might not hurt
)
Hi everyone, nice to see GW2 forums so busy, teeming with players. I always think of the more important parts of any game, parts like mechanics, and not to forget… account security, thing ArenaNet has always been in look for to keep.
I just wanted to come up with ideas that might help vs. account theft, since this is a more serious threat than any other unblanance/ bug/ exploit in-game, since these may be fixed in time, but one player’s hard work may not.
I thought at some ideas on security, some of them I also saw implemented in other games, and, with all this MMORPG competition I doubt there’ll ever be a unique new game, so therefore, GW2 may as well borrow stuff from other games.
<> Character Password – something I heard of as implemented in Cabal (or Kabal, dunno how it’s written
), it could be highly useful, so that one who hacks an account, may not delete any of the characters. Implemention should be like this:
- password is set by player on character creation, deletion of character would require type of name’o character, than password for deletion.
- may as well be very useful if you are required to type it each time u log in, so that no one else may play it other than the one(s) who knows password.
- each character should have their own password
- “Change Password” option and “Add New Password”, if implemented, for characters.
Ghost Character Slot(s) – though this is not for security ideas, this idea seemed funny. On deleting a character, it should move to a “vault” on the account where it could stay for X days (say 10), time in which the player might choose to “revive” it by undeleting it. Good for example: say u already have 5 chars but dun want to purchase other slot, you can delete one to try level other Profession, or fully use it in sPvP, then you can revert to your original character.
Inventory/ Bank Access Passwords – while again they seem annoying, in the idea of too many to be implemented, these passwords should come up with “Enable/ Disable” option, so that one who logs in may enter password to disable them, and re-enable them on log out, or this re-enabling should happen automatically on log out, since one may also forget. These 2 passwords should also be different as well and though it may sound like making a novel out of the passwords one digs in this game, I only think implementing them will make the game more hard to hack (especially accounts). These 2 passwords should lock the Inventory/ Bank panel until disabled, so that any hacker who bypasses character password will also have to crack this password to steal the owner’s items. (That’s why I believe that Character Password should also prevent access to the character as well.)
CD Key – Log in? – this idea can be implemented as another original log in issue, that will disallow anyone else to log in onto other one’s account. Of course, it may be written in a folder along with any of the other passwords, and the password tabs should allow Copy – Paste, so that to facilitate easier typing
Character Name Fill-out – just as in GW1, the log in section should also require the typing of a character name to log in (better still, one different name each 24 hours, or log in, so that 2 character names will be required at least).
Will think of more and add them up once I come with them. Even though my ideas sound far-fetched I am really worried with account theft, Internet insecurity and different ways people are exploited into giving personal ideas; while on the other side there are rootkits which hide programs such as (Super) Key Loggers that remember any key typed and may work well at gaining card info, account name/ password.
An idea of mine would be that these implements should be optional, in case some would dislike typing that much, but I’d prefer account security to anything else. This idea list might make account security a little less important to developers, since the full use of these gives little to no chances of losing anything in case you are hacked.
Moreover, having been hacked and also having lost characters/ items, different things easily places the blame on the user, not the hackers, since they only try to exploit any weakness they can find, at either the user or the account. These implements allow full security of an account, if one does not comply, it’s his/ her fault, loss of account will be either due to one telling all these passwords to someone else, or not using them at all.
