Basically windows Aero is much more trouble then it is worth , if you want something fancy try installing some KDE windows managers
That one beats the i5, but not on Guild wars 2….
The game is not really optimized for multi-threading. But I guess you will not use your computer only for playing 1 game :p
Besides, the new playstation 4 will have a amd cpu… So that means they are still better than intel i think :pNo, the PS4 uses an AMD CPU because it needs to hit a price point.
oh, its not all about price, AMD offers the better overall package, AMD is better at multi threading, amd also have FAR FAR better video then intel, and im sure that amd are supplying some sort of chipset for it since that would make things alot easier on sony in design and in software design.
intel is faster per core, but intel dont even have an 8core chip yet, and no, quads with HT dont count…HT is great when it works, but can have HORRIBLE effects when it dosnt.
a simple example is using x64 ogg vorbis encoder with dbpoweramp on all cores, my 8core amd flys, my buddies 900x(its a 970/980/990…cant remember) at 4.8 takes a 47% perf hit with HT enabled doing the same task, making it ALOT slower then mine, with it disabled, its slower but, not quite so big a gap…..(this was done encoding a large batch of flac files to ogg using the lancer mod enhanced oggenc from hydrogen audio forums using dbpoweramp, foobar2000 also could be used for testing i hear….but dbp is easy and fast)
They use AMD cause it has a great price to performance ratio. Also, while the AMD CPU does have 8 cores, one AMD core =/= one Intel core. As for AMD having better integrated video, that doesn’t really matter. The PS4 is using a dedicated graphics card anyhow.
Nope , the PS4 is using what AMD calls an APU , 8 jaguar core with a graphics chip on the die. And from what “we” “know” MS uses something that is “close” to Sony
AMD beats Intel CPU when it comes to video encoding There some other encoding things which are faster as well. There is a video out on how AMD beats Intel on games when using something like fraps and running the game at the same time.
There is also it upgrade path Intel will go with mainboards + cpu soldered and AMD allows users to upgrade the cpu without needing a new mainboard.
So far AM3+ has one upgrade left somewhere before the end of the year (prolly 2014) And it is called Steamroller .

Okay just reporting that so far this behaviour is not in BETA 7
If u got loads of money and want somthing that beats a FX 8350 in GW2 and can still hammer away at non gaming computational tasks ..then get a 3930k (6 physical cores 12 threads)
Which would make little to no sense since GW2 has kitten poor optimization for more then 4 threads .
Definitely let AMD know… I’ve been waiting for 13.2 to release for the latency fixes, but I’d rather they fix everything in beta since 13.1 is at least stable:
The odd thing is that 13.2 leaked has no such problems . I heard BETA 5 wasn’t doing this either.
Phenom 2 is an old processor. You can’t expect to get really awesome performance out of an old core 2 duo either…
The new Piledriver cored processors are far better than the previous Bulldozer cored ones. They’re “almost” to the level of an i7 now. I just upgraded from a FX-4100 (bulldozer) (oc’d to 4.2ghz) to an FX-8350 (piledriver) at 4.2Ghz, and my performance more than doubled in most places. Yes, there are more cores, but the FX-8100 (bulldozer) performed pretty much the same as the FX-4100 in GW2.
Whatever they changed with the upgraded “architecture,” it definitely made a vast improvement.
I still wouldn’t put it up against an i7…but it costs like half as much and I’m willing to sacrifice a bit for that.
Sadly the Phenom II is rather good and only the current Vishera lineup beats it barely in single thread performance. The performance issues are software rather then hardware.
Since these my system exits to desktop usually from Frostgorge Sound, which isn’t a biggie until the repair window popup , after that there will be an error and regardless it won’t finish (bugs out) and needs a reboot to work.
Normally this behaviour is okay but somehow it seems rather odd to do this for me under this revision.
Anyone else have this as well ?
Btw the framerate and everything else seems fine.
videocard: AMD 6970
briefly: overclocked system Phenom II X4 960t (zosma) to 4.09 ghz and have a 6970 videocard. My performance is quite good when im alone and not facing any action then it is over 100 fps (112) , when im at something like lions arch and overflow my fps is about 40 fps
If you have problems with frames per second in general what you want to do is 2 things. read about the general performance about your cpu and if it does not work that well for you the only thing left is get a new HD or create a seperate partition and test if the same happens. To many times the problem lies in cluttered windows or bad installed videodrivers
Example I’ll give you my card doesnt work well with pre 13.2 videodrivers.
Your machine is not that bad but GW2 doesn’t put out enough threads (very poorly written parallel code) to make a dent.
Try and force GW2 to use only 4 cores (task manager).
Arenanet this morning I was hoping to farm some stuff , recently the population of our server took a dive since some WvWvW guild decided to jump ship.
By now you must have collected a lot of data on how many people are in certain zones and so on. On lower populated servers is there any scaling going on for events?
Finding it hard to swallow that you have to jump server to farm Onyx lodestones I was wondering if you have any idea on how to fix certain things without everyone flocking to higher populated servers.?
