Some of you guys need a better understanding of development cycles and milestone scheduling.

Love the house painting comparison though, very similar to a design cycle.

But I guarantee when the next major update comes around that will “set the bar”, players will be referring and comparing future updates to the one that “sets the bar.”

In most regards, the initial game (as it was at release) already set the bar and almost every Living Story update since then has been nothing but a massive disappointment.

Well that is entirely your opinion. The game, as released, was excellent. But at that time, there were plenty of unhappy people too (via forums.) There were several LS updates that I’ve personally enjoyed, but that is my opinion. To each his/her own.

Yes, I like the living story. It’s enjoyable to see what’s coming next and to experience the small spurts of new content. It’s always nice to get permanent content out of it. We almost always get a new feature or two every few weeks.

With that said, the LS content is still in it’s infancy stages. The developers likely have a development cycle that incorporates “lessons learned” from previous content updates based upon data collected, internal and player feedback.

Not all updates will appeal to an individual and not all updates will be outstanding. But I guarantee when the next major update comes around that will “set the bar”, players will be referring and comparing future updates to the one that “sets the bar.”

GW 2 was advertised as a fun, casual MMO.

So, another hardcore vs. casual discussion. Oh, and another discussion about GW2 content grind…or content in general.

So here are a few points, or opinions, or whatever you want to interpret it as:

  • I am having trouble identifying an RPG that isn’t stat based in some way, shape or form. Thus, there will always be a grind in some way. Is the goal of an “innovative” MMO to hide a grind as best as possible?
  • Whether you classify yourself (or others) as casual or hardcore, what would you prefer for end game content: A stat crawl or playing dress up with the latest looks? Those seem to be the only two options for progression in the modern MMO.

The living world should end imo ..

The “Living Story” updates are no different from other MMO updates other than adding a tiny bit of story onto the new content. We get a new feature here and there, bug fixes, balancing, and temporary story content.

And a few times a year, there will be larger updates that either adds or changes something more significant in the game.

Personally, I would rather have a small feed of updates than waiting awhile for longer updates. If these “Living Story” updates didn’t exist, I’d imagine there would not be too much to entice the player to keep playing. I mean, obtaining end-game skins are fun and all, to a point.

Hello,

I will certainly attempt your suggestion above.

I had another idea. Perhaps using the -image command in the executable might help correct this issue? The -image command downloads every single file at once rather than periodically during game play.

I wonder if Silver and Skall are still following this thread? If so, can you please provide updates on your progress for resolving this problem?

Thanks.

Hello,

I have updated my drivers to the latest and after trying to zone from Cal Forest, to Lion’s Arch, to Divinity’s Reach, my game crashed on me. Log below:

  • Crash <—*

It does seem to have something to do with memory or conflicts with NVIDIA. I am not quite sure.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi guys,

I have the exact same problem described in this post. I first will get rainbow colors either on the map, UI or character models, then I will crash to desktop. This typically happens on zones/areas with a lot going on (Lion’s Arch, Southsun, etc).

I do not think it is a GPU hardware issue. I have recently purchased a new GPU (GTX 760) and still receive the glitching. My old GPU was a GTX 9800. When I first purchased the game, I did not have this issue. The issue began early this year.

I have a similar set up as the OP. 32-Bit Vista and 4 Gigs of Ram.

I suspect this is a memory issue related to the 32-bit system. I’ve seen several posts related to this issue both on the official forums and in other locations. I have yet to find a proper resolution or fix.

Has the technical staff looked at this issue? Has anyone developed any work arounds?

Let me know.

Thanks.

Here is what I found:

W1Z3

  • The music has tones of the original Metroid theme for the NES.
  • The area also has tones of Brinstar from Super Metroid with the overgrowth and plant life.

World Map
* The map style was used in many different games. Two notably were Megaman’s Wily Fortress and Ghosts & Goblins.

W1Z1
* The typical structure for platformers (especially Mario) was to have a grassy, bright area as the first World or Section.
