Screenshots not going to the right place

I looked around the forum and I see that the basic consensus is that Mac OSX controls where the screenshots go and you can’t change it in the program. But I changed my default screenshot location to a different folder than my desktop, and GW is still saving them to the desktop. My CMD-SHFT-3 screenshots correctly go to the new location; it’s only shots taken from within the game that still go to the desktop.

Anyone have any ideas on how to get GW to go to the correct default location? Has anyone else managed to do this? Or am I just going to have to use CMD-SHFT-3 or 4 from now on instead of the game’s internal screenshot function? I play windowed so I’d really rather be able to use the internal feature because that’s one keystroke compared to three plus a click (which makes a big difference if you’re fighting a boss or in wvw)…

The only thing that would have made it better is if the Mad King goes down to the next area via the jumping platforms as well! That’d be hilarious!

I love that idea! Though, part of the fun was when he disappeared and everyone was “where the kitten did he go this time!?”

Aurhia armor doesn’t take any damage from deaths incurred by falling and hasn’t for a while now. That might be why someone accused you of lying.

If that’s the case then why was I getting messages saying it was damaged and my armor kept getting those orange shields on it (not to mention a substantial repair bill and my armor breaking a couple times so it was invisible…)? Maybe I was taking damage from other things and only noticed the messages about damaged armor when I died? I don’t know. But the message kept popping up on impact so that’s what I associated it with (the death, not the falling. I just died a whole lot more from falling than anything else). Regardless, I had a much steeper repair bill than the kind of silver that was coming in, and I must have had about a hundred deaths from just trying to rejoin everyone where jumping was required to get to them.

To be clear, I wasn’t saying it should be different or anything. I thought it was a great zone, and I hope we get more like it! We’ve all got things we’re bad at and for me, platforming is one of them. I was just really surprised that something designed with mandatory jumps that result in death if you miss wasn’t considered “a jumping puzzle.”

I’m not a liar. I was taking falling damage. A lot of it. Every time I hit the death by the waypoint in the Mad King dungeon I got a little message saying “X piece of armor has taken damage”.

Sea of replies… here’s a couple more drops in the ocean:

I didn’t manage to get past the first part of the puzzle. I can’t really comment on the design since I didn’t get to it but the vids I saw and what I heard from my guildies, it sounds like it was incredible. I’m glad this game has such a range of types of content. Hopefully eventually people will realize that means that they should go do the things they have fun with and ignore the stuff they don’t.

I’ll say, I suck at jumping puzzles – for someone like me, the MK dungeon most certainly was a jumping NIGHTMARE. I thought that was intentional, how can you not have thought that was a jumping puzzle? I must have spent 50 or 60 silver on repairs JUST from jumping deaths and got no where near the loot to cover the costs. There’s no spots where you “just drop down;” there’s spaces between the rocks where you have to get across without missing. I thought it was hysterical that you fell out the bottom and back through the top though. Certainly not complaining about it! Though it was frustration with constantly running out of money due to repairs and spending twenty minutes trying to get to the different levels because I kept dying on jumps that made me stop running it for the day. I was THAT person who held everyone up at the end of a run for a half hour trying to get to the spot where the chest is and ending up just suicide jumping to land by the chest and have someone res me. How humiliating.

All that said, my problems in the Clocktower were not my lack of platforming skills. I might well have not gotten any farther than I did on it based on my truly terrible platforming, but for over half the times I entered it, I was dead before it finished loading. I never even SAW the tower on my first three load-ins because it literally did the “entrance” load screen replaced immediately with the “go back to the beginning because the ooze caught you” screen, with no pause between. On the few times I actually loaded before dying, it seems like where my client thought I was and where the server thought I was, were not the same space. I was running on what looked like air to me, and falling through the middle of solid objects. My husband saw me as running on stairs and falling into air (ie, I assume he was seeing the “correct” view and mine was not) — we’re on the same connection so it must be an issue on my computer. But I saw a couple other people mention that upthread and in chats in game, so I know I’m not the only one with that sort of “out-of-sync” issue.

One suggestion to account for that in future puzzles of this nature is to give a little more time before it starts. In this case, it could have been something like, loading them into the space at the bottom and waiting a few seconds before having the puzzle start moving. Or make the “waiting room” part of the overall puzzle area and have them run out instead of having to load them into another area. That way everyone at least gets a shot at the puzzle instead of spending the whole time looking at loading screens.

You mention you’re tired of switching servers but I’d like to suggest that if you’re seeing world maps that are desolate, and this is anything but a once-only freak accident of timing, you may want to consider switching your server one more time to something that is high or often full, and maybe do a little research on server communities to see what timezone many of the players are in. On Tarnished Coast during my usual time (for me that would be after 8pm EST) you can’t go twenty steps without seeing someone. I mean, really, at 4am EST, DR is still full of people…

Hiya! You may want to consider Seelund Trading Co. We’re currently putting together a supply/siege team. Either way, contact “Jennen Phoenix” or “Qora Seelund” (those are characters, account name: Polytechnique). Whether you find you’re interested in our guild or not, it’s good to coordinate the small tactical groups, and it sounds like you’ll be playing around the same time we’re likely to be in.

Well, you’ve gotten the copy/paste from a lot of guilds already but you might consider listing what server you’re on (or if you’re willing to transfer servers), and what parts of the game you’re interested in exploring first. If you’re not sure about what you’re interested in, that’s fine too, but the more information you supply up front, the better people recruiting here will know whether or not you’re a match for their guild.

Many guilds tend to have a focus in the way they’re organized, that will make it easier for you to explore certain parts of the game. For instance, my guild, Seelund Trading Co, on Tarnished Coast, is kind of pointed mostly toward roleplaying and we’re working on building a supply/siege team for world vs world. There are people in STC who do dungeons too of course and we like to get a group together to run around leveling or map-completing or puzzle jumping, but most of our organized events will be RP or WvW. For other guilds, that focus will be different. We’ve got people from a few countries so for us what timezone you’re in doesn’t matter a lot but it will make a big difference with some guilds (If they’re mostly EST and you’re in Australia you may never even see another guildie online, for instance).

Good luck with your search

NOT REPRESENTING

in Guilds

Posted by: Aurhia.7469

Aurhia.7469

There’s a very good reason why you might intentionally bring someone in knowing that they’re not going to represent you — if they’re an “ambassador” from another guild. They can see your message, so they’ll know when there are events or whatnot and if they need more people for something in their main guild, it’s very easy for them to switch over and ask in gchat for more people. They’re in the roster so it’s easy to keep track of them, and you can give them their own rank so they have no access to, say, the gbank.

Also, you don’t automatically represent a guild when you join it. Some people don’t realize after they’ve accepted the tag that they have that extra step of "represent"ing to get into gchat and whatnot. So if you’ve got a lot of people who you see online a lot but never are representing you, you might check if that’s what’s going on.

A theory about Tarnished Coast...

I have an addition to the OPs theory. By not having separate PVE/PVP server mechanics, and only having one generally agreed on RP server, we not only got most of the RPers, but a solid number of the RP-PVPers from other games as well (I’ve run into more people from The Venture Co and Jung Ma than I would ever have imagined and I’ve only been in for a couple weeks…). And RP-PVPers are just as much about the story — but our stories tend to involve a whole lot more bashing the enemy over the head than most people think of when you say “roleplayer” …and if we find we can’t win? Well, we’re taking them down with us at the very least…

You might be interested in Seelund Trading Co. We’ve only been on the server a couple weeks so we’re still in the process of getting events together, but we’re very welcoming to families and more concerned with having fun than with becoming “a mega guild.” We have people who play a number of different games and we have an organized presence in WoW and SWTOR still (so for anyone who sees this and wonders: Yes, this is the same Seelund from Venture Co and Jung Ma). We plan to focus more on RP and WvWvW but we do have people interested in the other aspects like dungeons and we’ve been having a blast running around doing events and leveling together too so far.

Home World: Tarnished Coast
Guild Name: Seelund Trading Co
Guild Website: http://www.seelundtrading.com
In-Game Contact: Aurhia or Polytechnique
Focus: “Whatever we feel like doing tonight” with a strong bent toward RP and WvWvW

Quick Notes: Small guild, focused more on having fun than anything else. Our two (yes, only two) rules sum it up: 1) Have fun and 2) Respect each other. We’re still new and currently working the RP background out, but plan to focus heavily on RP and RP-WvW once that’s done.
