I’m also looking forward to the changes to turrets, particularly the reflect. But I still see one problem: Will a 4 sec reflect every 10 secs be enough to outplay any of our other dmg skills? Imo the answer is no. We have to sacrifice a lot of trait points in order to get this reflect, taking out a substantial amount of the dps and important traits that a Bomb or Grenade Engi might need in PvE. The guard and the mesmer, the only two other classes with reflects galore, don’t have to sacrifice anything for that! Except maybe the mesmer for the focus reflect but that is still not a lot in comparison to what we have to sacrifice for that!
Sure we become more supportive on the one hand, but we have to give up a lot for that!
The alchemy grandmaster is interesting though, since it could synergize well with FT/EG builds and our ability to gain perma swiftness as well. Same goes for the Firearms trait in this case. Being able to spam mines every 2s with the critical hits that the FT does sounds pretty awesome and helps kiting things! Gadgeteer is kind of meh, won’t be going that deep into gadgets for something I can easily get from somehwere else.
Nah I don’t think so. I think she is just completely overestimating her own capabilities. The only reason why she has used us so far was to enhance her weapons and to make them more powerful. We already beat one elder dragon, so creating weapons that even we can’t destroy means that she can defeat one by herself. She is completely forgetting that we used Zhaitan’s own poisoned magic to defeat him.
I don’t think that she is trying to use the miasma to poison the dragon, but more or less to controll it. It did have some mind controll capabilities afterall, as we know from the ToN patch.
My theory is that Scarlet will be killed by whatever comes out under the old Lion’s Arch.
Agree! Scarlet will wake the dragon, dragon says thank you and begins it’s new life with some lovely salad. I also like that because I don’t think any of the characters should kill her.
Or more awesome: Scarlet kills Kasmeer. Marjory in a fit of rage grabs Scarlet and they both fall off the drill into the depths and die. But Anet prob don’t have the balls for that.
The problem with condis however is that if you have another engi or necro in the groupwho also specializes in them, then you will be stepping on each others feet because of the condi cap. So if you’re pugging, always keep a zerker set on standby. Atleast that’s what I do when I notice that the other chars are going condi as well.
If you have your own dungeon group where everybody knows their role then do as you please! 30/30/0/0/10 or 30/30/0/10/0 Nades and Bombs are the way to go though imo.
I doubt that the Pale Tree is Mordremoth, but more, like Kalarchis said, a champion of Mordremoth. If she were Mordremoth then that would have extreme Problems with the Syvlari Personal Story.
Where would you start out as a Sylvari? The Pale Tree is this good and pure creature throughout the entire Personal Story (not only for Sylvari) and how would they be able to integrate all of that into this new world where the Pale Tree is now a magic consuming Elder Dragon?
I still think that Scarlet saw Mordremoth (the Sylvari’ true purpose) and is trying to control him in order to free the Sylvari from his chains so that they can choose their own destiny instead of being the slaves of a dragon. In the end she will ultimately fail and instead of saving the Sylvari and the rest of Tyria from the next Elder Dragon she will awaken and doom us all, making her this really tragic “hero”. I can easily see Mordremoth awakening next patch, Scarlet laughs insanely thinking she can controll him now, something goes wrong, Mordremoth laughs back and gobbles her up!
Would be cool if Mordremoth is also the dragon that the Sylvari PC sees in the Dream meaning that their Wyld Hunt isn’t over yet.
Why Scarlet wants to control Mordremoth.

Step 3: Why Scarlet wants to controll Mordremoth and not kill it.
Now that we know Scarlett’s main goal and the possible true purpose of the Sylvari, it is time to add the two up with one another: If Scarlet’s main desire is to achieve complete independence for herself and her entire race and if this races purpose is predetermined through either the Ventari Tablet or Mordremoth, the logical consequence for Scarlet would be to remove these two factors entirely in order to achieve full independence. Without Mordremoth, the Sylvari are no longer under the influence of an Elder Dragon and both the Dreamers purposes as well as that of the Nightmare Court are fulfilled, although the latter more or less failed in this then. They are free! No predetermination whatsoever!
However, I don’t think that Scarlet wants to kill Mordremoth. I think that she want’s to controll it. This is mainly because at the end of What Scarlet Saw Scarlet says that “empires will fall, continents will burn and when the conflagration is over, I’ll be there to put my stamp on whatever new world this one becomes.” Now if she simply kills Mordremoth, all of that won’t happen. Moreover, what good would it bring if she would kill her races master other than freeing it? Wouldn’t it be far more tempting to controll said master and with it her entire race as well? In doing so, Scarlet would have an immense amount of power, possibly the most awesome amount one could possibly have and she would be able to achieve near godlike status! And since she is then top of the food chain, she can finally achieve her main goal and determine for herself what her own destiny is going to be, as well as what the destiny of her entire race is going to be as well.
I also think that the change made to Tequatl strongly hints at this possibility that Scarlet wants to control Mordremoth. As the Devs said, all LS updates will tie into one another, and we know almost how all of them tie up together with the exception of Teq. Now I don’t believe that Teq became more powerful after Zhaitans death, just because his master was gone and I don’t believe that this means that Zhaitan is not dead. Moreover, I believe, and a lot of people are probably going to hate me for this, that Scarlet tampered with Teq in some kind of way. After all, she herself said that anything that doesn’t evolve fails and if she want’s to learn how to control an Elder Dragon, why not experiment on one of it’s strongest champions first and enhance it? This could also explain the dragon drawing in Scarlet’s lair (or it is just Mordremoth).
Step 4: Conclusion
All in all, I think that Scarlet was searching for Mordremoth’s resting place and is now trying to dig him up and try to tamper with his mind and controll him while he is still sleeping. In the end, I think we will have our typical over the top villain that overestimated their power just far too much and that this is going to be the end of her. But who knows, maybe we stop her before she even reaches Mordremoth and we never get to see him awaken. Maybe this wasn’t her goal at all and she was searching for a Bloodstone. Either way I’m pretty convinced that this is going to be Scarlet’s endgame. The main problem I see in this however is: What was then the whole purpose of that stupid tower in Kessex Hills? To create a more powerful toxin? What for? To Drug Mordremoth and take complete control over it with a drug so strong, not even an Elder Dragon could resist it? If it turns out to be that way we will see in the coming two patches. So what are your thoughts guys?
Why Scarlet wants to control Mordremoth.

Hey guys!
First time poster here and I know this might be extremely late, but I haven’t really seen this theory put out there before so I thought I might go and give it a shot. Since we first met her and wether you like her or not, we have all been trying to figure out what Scarlet’s possible endgame is and if she might even be a good guy or just simply insane. One of the main theories is that Scarlet want’s to awaken an Elder Dragon, and the theories have ranged from that dragon being either Primordus or Mordremoth, the supposed jungle Dragon of whom the Pale Tree is a supposed champion. However, the question is what does she seek to achieve with this: does she want to controll this Elder Dragon or does she want to even go so far and try to kill it all by herself? Since we are nearing the end of season one of the LS I thought I would review all of the material we have had so far about Scarlet and come up with one final possible theory as to what Scarlet’s ultimate goal is.
Step 1: What is Scarlets main goal?
First of all, in order to fully understand what Scarlet’s possible motives are, I think we should go back to the very beginning and look at the story that hint best at Scarlet’s possible motivs namely “What Scarlet Saw”. All in all, you could sum up the driving force behind all of Scarlet’s actions into one simple desire: the desire to be free and independent. This becomes clear in the second passage that depicts her awakening. When Scarlet awakens, she first meets Mender Serimon, who introduces himself to her and says that he is there to help her understand the purpose that the Pale Tree has given her. To this Scarlet simply replies: “I’ll find my own place, thank you very much. And it’s hardly ‘my’ purpose if someone else gives it to me.”
This one sentence basically somes up her main goal: She alone wants to determine the kind of person who she is going to be in life and she alone wants to be the one who is going to determine her destiny, not the Pale Tree, not the Nightmare Court, not anyone! And in order to do this, she has to find as much about the universe and how it works as she possibly can.
However, it doesn’t stop there, as we later see in the most important part of the story: Her vision. Here Scarlet sees the Pale Tree and Sylvari Society as it is: new Sylvari get born, journey, live and die. However, she also sees more than that: She see’s the Sylvari’s true purpose and how everything, the Dreamers and the Courtiers, is connected with one another to follow one grand scheme.
When Scarlet finally wakes up she declares that her new goal is to “change the rules”. She want’s to not only free herself, but free all of the Sylvari from a life of predetermined destinies. This is what I believe her main goal is going to be.
Step 2: What is the Sylvari’s grand purpose.
Now this is where it get’s really tricky, since this is the point where the theory that the Sylvari are minions of the jungle Elder Dragon Mordremoth comes into play. As many of you probably know, there is the theory that the Sylvari are minions of an Elder Dragon and that the Dreamers, possibly through the influence of Ventari’s Tablet, were able to free themselves from this influence, while the Nightmare Court are trying to drive them back to it. I for one subscribe to this theory, though I still doubt that the Dreamers have managed to fully set themself free from Mordremoths influence (Why else would they turn to Nightmare?).
Either way I think that this is what their grand and predeterimined purpose is, to either kill their master and all the other Elder Dragons (The Dreamers) or to follow their master (Nightmare Court).
That it has to be Mordremoth has become clear for me in Scarlet’s Journal, where she says that she keeps hearing a voice calling out to her in her head and that she has to confront this voice in order to free herself. Having severed her ties to the Pale Tree, her main source of influence could be Mordremoth. This becomes clear when she says that she hears voices from the forest taunting her, calling her, possessing her! We know that some of the Elder Dragons, particularly Jormag, try to influence and corrupt individuals through telepathy and promises of power. Why shouldn’t Mordremoth be doing the same now with Scarlet since she has turned her back on the Pale Tree. The only way she can turn now is towards the nightmare, which she is trying to resist.
