The best of resolving this was suggested over 3 years ago, and it’s a simple fix than the above.
Simply de-couple the server you WvW for from the server you PvE on. You can then use the existing character transfer mechanic to move your character to any server you wish. Charge gems to move your WvW server to maintain WvW integrity and give a pop up message saying your may get lag is you move cross region.
Job done.
While free options and less restrictive options are ideal, of course, my suggestion revolves more around minimizing perceived issues of implementing such options. It’s a suggestion that’s based around compromises – it attempts to present an option that reduces trouble such as cluttering up communication between the two data centers and puts it behind a paywall, thus making it, maybe, hopefully, more feasible and worthwhile for the company to implement.
and since said character is saved on two dif data senters what happens when a rare drop happens in the na server that you wont then have on the eu server mate?
You know you would basicly have to level up masteries on each server cluster aswell.
You will never play the character on both data centers at the same time. The privilege you would be paying for would be mirroring – when you switch the region, the data centers would communicate briefly to align the data, thus saving progress from both sides.
Hello, ladies and gentlecharr!
It’s no secret that there’s probably a decent number of players somehow inconvenienced by the segregation of NA and EU regions. I’m among them. For me, personally, the issue came to a head recently as most of my guild, who are based in the US, left the server for greener, more American pastures. I used a free account to test my latency to see if I could follow, and the results were not good.
The thing is, I would not terribly mind the latency for short periods of time – I’d endure it happily for a dungeon run or a map clear with my friends.
The issue with the current system, as I see it, is its all-or-nothing nature.
If I wish to play with my friends, I have to make the opposite region my home region and endure the cross-region lag even when I’m not playing with those cross-region friends.
As I recall, the separation of the data centers was cited as the reason for the segregation – it would be too much overhead to maintain character data for every character on both ends.
Assuming this is the crux of the issue, here then is my suggestion:
What about a one-time fee to keep just one character mirrored on both ends?
Such a character would be unable to participate in WvW on the region it’s a “guest” on, of course, but would otherwise act like a ‘native’ on the other side for activities where being part of a given world’s population is irrelevant.
Essentially, this character would allow one to play with their friends cross-region without, I should hope, causing too much overhead thanks to the fact it’s just one character per non-free account and that only people who want the perk would unlock it.
Obviously, my hope is that one day, a full cross-region guesting feature will be developed, but if it’s truly not feasible at all, this is an example of a compromise I could live with. Really, I just want to not be so completely cut off from my US friends, and I’m sure they’d like to be able to play with me occasionally as well.
Thanks for reading!
Can we have these back now that they can be used in combat? Please? Pretty please?
Aviator and Sports Sunglasses? Hmm? Pleeeeeeeeeeease?
I MUST HAVE THEM.
I’d like to add another voice to the ‘please find a way for players playing on the North American servers and those on European servers to play together’. I am part of a multinational guild, and the fact some of the members must deal with lag issues constantly, or are online in off-hours and can’t get dungeon groups easily, is greatly discouraging them.
A Guesting mechanic, a dual home world mechanic, it doesn’t matter – ANet knows best what it can pull off with the tech they can access – there’s undeniably demand for this.
Might as well throw in this one, too.
Human, Male, Elementalist.
It’s the discoloration after submerging graphical glitch that so many other posters are experiencing.
Quick version: Glitch appears when a character dives underwater (does not appear when swimming on the surface) and persists after leaving the water. Re-zoning or re-equipping the afflicted items removes the glitch until the character is submerged again. Other people confirmed seeing it.
It’s been following me for the longest time and has appeared on a variety of sets. I’ve only ever experienced it on light armor. Its most recent incarnation for me (and a very big one, at that) is on the leggings and chest of my elementalist’s current armor. Both are pieces of the Masquerade crafted set, but transmuted to look like:
-Priory Leggings (Durmand Priory armor)
-Cloth Vigil Chestpiece (a karma-bought Fine chest armor from Crusader Aisling in Bloodtide Coast)
The entire set in the screenshots is dyed with Abyss dye – the red/white/gray areas are the ones suffering the glitch.

Charr, Female, Thief.
This graphical glitch appeared with one of the Halloween patches, and is causing some rather creepy distortion of my poor character’s eyes. The bit around the upper lid seems to have traveled down and is now obscuring her pupils entirely. This persists in the game world, on the Hero panel and even on the character selection screen. While certainly Halloweeny-scary, it’s bugging (heh) the hell out of me.
Thankfully, I had an old screenshot, so I can show off what the character should appear as/used to appear as in comparison to what the glitch has done.
Relogging, changing zones, transformations have not worked to repair the issue. A friend of mine says he can see the bug on my character quite clearly as well.
