run and run and often only realize i have lag when i want to harvest something
and it doesn’t work.
That’s probably precisely because they try to compensate your latency. As long as you act in a predictable fashion (running), you don’t notice the lag. But as soon as an unexpected user input is triggered, the server can’t go back far enough to compensate it.
The actual algorithm would take a proper academic whitepaper to explain in detail, so the following is a highly simplified look into how it works.

If you read this, one question on the technicalities : does the algorithm and the numbers you’re trying to fine-tune are the same for every aspect of the game (movement, skills and actions) ? Because a 250ms delay (fairly easy to reach with two slow connexions) on a 1+ sec cast time would not be too much of a problem, but it will be difficult to interrupt a <0.5s cast (even if the interrupting skill is compensated too, otherwise we’re looking at a 4x delay).
I’d add two more things : give xp and karma, even reduced or map based; and enable loot on normal and veteran mobs (since the many elite and champs still wouldn’t give anything, loot is slightly reduced compared to looting every mob that spawns).
There was a red post on Reddit where they announced that they would “help anyone out who just bought the core game and would like to make the change to a HoT pre-purchase”.
It won’t be automatic and I don’t know to what extent they will offer that help, but I guess that if you specifically bought the game to be able to get the extension you have some chances of getting it.
So, if the Guild Wars 2 base game is included with the expansion, does that mean that I will be able to give the copy I don’t need (because I already own the game) to a friend who’s willing to start the game so we can play together the core game content ?
This concerns the communion skill challenge in Graven Cay. Even though the Pact controls both the temples of Melandru and Grenth and the map shows the statue as uncontested, the cripple+bleeding effect is still active and makes the communion impossible.
Also, question for other players : is there a workaround for this ? I can’t be the only one bothered by not being able to complete Cursed Shore, and that bug seems to last.
