I understand your point of view and why you are defending this practice. I just fundamentally disagree.
I disagree that this is “seasonal content”, this is not time gated , side content, like the winter and halloween events. This is the main story of game, bridging the gap towards the next expansion. This is like if they time gated part of the Zaitan story if you didn’t buy Guild Wars 2 at launch. It’s money grabbing and I expect better from Areanet.
I already bought the dvd, this is hiding an epilogue if you didn’t watch it at a certain time.
And yes, I know Areanet is a business and they are free to make money however they want. But hiding story behind a paywall is not what I expected from them when I bought the game and I am disappointed in them.

I know this is just gonna come across as sour grapes. But I really feel like this is a dishonest move on the part of Areanet. It’s not only that we’re missing out on loot and achievement points and collections and stuff. We’re missing out on lore that is a vital bridge to HoT. For this to be gated behind a paywall as punishment for not logging in at a certain point is not what I thought the Guild Wars 2 ethos was.
On a related note, I would really like it noted on the collections achievements that they cannot be gained without accessing content that is currently disabled to you, like it does with other achievements you have to unlock by doing something else first.
Major FPS decrease whilst contact screen is open

`Regardless of your problem. That isn’t a very good graphics card :/ so I doubt you’d get really smooth gameplay anyway.
Could be a transparency issue. Or maybe something to do with awesomeium_process.exe
I get 60FPS steady with settings on low, 45 FPS with settings on mid
but my card absolutely isn’t an issue with regards to playing the game, and as mentioned before in the original post other people experience the same issues
Notably, someone else with these specs has the same issue:
AMD X6 1100T Six Core Processor
16 GB DDR3 RAM
AMD 2GB Radeon HD 7870 PCI-Express 3.0 x16
Major FPS decrease whilst contact screen is open

Title pretty much says it all. Whilst the contacts screen is open I experience major FPS decrease.
The same also happens when I have guild user lists open, but not all of them. For example, when I’m viewing the user list for KING it’s fine, but if I open the list for FUN that sudden FPS decrease appears.
Hardware:
AMD Phenom 8550
Nvidia GTS250
3GB of DDR3 RAM
Normally the game runs at around 45-60 FPS, for a frame of reference.
Links to threads on the same topic, just adding my voice so it’s known that this isn’t an isolated issue:
I run an nVidia card in my subpar rig and the game is both playable and looks nice. I don’t get 60fps but I don’t need to since the human brain processes about 24fps into fluid motion.
This is actually untrue, there is no solid number anyone can give for a limit or sweetspot for the human brain to integrate images from the eyes.
The 24fps myth comes from the fact that movies are often recorded to 24fps, but this is more to do with attempting to trick the brain into “filling in the gaps” and has nothing to do with the limitations on the eyes or brain. The average person can quite easily tell the difference between 15, 30, 60, 90 and even 120 frames per second
I hope there’s more to the halloween event than the gemstore additions and the devil horns. I don’t really consider paying for ingame items an event :|
